The Duck Hunters: Happy Hour slot is played on a 4x5x6x6x5x4 grid with Scatter Pays. As with other Scatter Pays slots, you need a certain number of matching symbols to appear anywhere in view:  in this case, you need 8 or more with the highest payout awarded for 12 or more.

The Duck Hunters: Happy Hour slot is the sequel to Duck Hunters (released in February 2025). In this installment, you can expect more hunting/redneck action. Focusing on (according to NLC) ‘bros, dranks and huntin’, you fire up the BBQ and clean the barrels as there are more ducks than ever (or it could be the drink making you see double).

Using the same setting as the original game, you head to a typical American redneck yard where you’ll see the flag flying, bottles of booze everywhere and a sizzling BBQ. The upbeat soundtrack has a country feel and sets the tone perfectly.

On the garden fence grid, symbols include Bud Light beer cans, whiskey bottles, cocktails, duck nests, ducks (with beers in hand) as well as 3 characters. The best paying symbol is the duck sporting a red hoodie: it pays 5 x your total bet for 12 or more anywhere in view.

Collapse

With wins formed when 8 or more matching symbols appear anywhere on the grid, a win triggers the Collapse feature. Winning symbols are then removed with the remaining symbols dropping down: this allows new symbols to drop in.

Importantly, a 2x multiplier is added on every position where a winning symbol was removed. If there was a position multiplier already there, the multiplier doubles. The multiplier on a win position can reach up to 8192x. Finally, the process repeats itself until no more Scatter Pays wins are created.

xWays & Infectious xWays

Like its predecessor, Duck Hunters: Happy Hour benefits from xWays and Infectious xWays symbols. Below is what they offer:

• xWays: transform into a regular paying symbol, increasing the position multiplier by 2, 4 or 8 times.
• Infectious xWays: the revealed xWays symbol infects all the same instances of the symbol to expand to the same size.

If multiple xWays or Infectious xWays symbols land on the grid, then all those symbols transform into the same symbol.

Bomb

Look out for the beer fridge Bomb symbol as this removes adjacent paying symbols in a 3x3 pattern. The position multiplier is double on positions affected by the Bomb too.

After exploding, the Bomb reveals a random symbol: including a medium-value paying symbol, Wild, Infectious xWays or Bomb. If multiple Bombs appear, their random symbols are revealed after all Bombs explode. Finally, Wilds and Bonus Hunting Scatters are unaffected and remain in position.  

Duck Hunt Spins

The Duck Hunt Spins feature is activated by landing 3 Bonus Hunting Scatters during a base game spin. With 7 free spins awarded, 1 of 3 modifiers will be randomly awarded before the feature begins:

• Upgraded xWays: xWays symbols are replaced by Infectious xWays
• Upgraded Bomb: Acts the same as a regular Bomb but never reveals medium-value paying symbols
• Extra +2 Shots: Replaces the Extra +1 Shot symbol and awards 2 free spins when landing

Once in, position multipliers are kept throughout the feature. Land an Extra +1 Shot symbol will give you 1 extra free spin, with no limits.

Hawk Eye Spins

The Hawk Eye Spins feature is played by landing 4 Bonus Hunting Scatters. With 8 free spins awarded, you benefit from 2 modifiers before the feature begins.

Big Game Spins

Finally, the Big Game Spins feature is activated by landing 5 Bonus Hunting Scatters. With 10 free spins to begin with, all 3 modifiers are in play from the off.

Extra Spin

When a spin or any feature ends, you might get the chance to use the Extra Spin feature. Allowing you to buy an additional spin, this spin will keep the same position multipliers of the previous spin.

Duck Hunters: Happy Hour is a sequel that offers more ducks than ever, a more lucrative Bomb and higher winning potential of 33,333 x your total bet.

When you fire up the Duck Hunters: Happy Hour slot, you won’t notice much of a difference from the original game. With the setting being almost identical, the grid appears in a 4x5x6x6x5x4 formation rather than the 6x5 in the first outing. The soundtrack is a lot more upbeat and appealing in this game though.

In terms of the gameplay, expect of the same in the ‘Happy Hour’ version. Wins lead to collapses which in turn double position multipliers all the way up to 8192x. The xWays and Infectious xWays symbols also work in the same way. The major difference is the Bomb symbol. Apart from the symbol changing from a gas canister to a beer fridge, the Bomb will still remove adjacent positions in a 3x3 pattern with position multipliers doubling: the difference is that the Bomb will reveal random symbol with the possibility of another Bomb for more explosions.

When it comes to the free spins features, they work like in the original game but with the Upgraded Bomb revealing a Wild, Infectious xWays or Bomb as opposed to removing regular symbols in a 5x5 pattern.

With 33,333 x bet max wins, Duck Hunters: Happy Hour offers higher winning potential than the first game (30,000 x bet). However, the max win probability is 1 in 24.3 million spins whilst it’s 1 in 22 million in the original. Triggering any of the free spins features will take approximately 220 spins whilst its 1 in 203 in the first game.

In summary, Duck Hunters: Happy Hour is very similar to the first game. It’s more upbeat and more explosive due to the improved Bombs) as well as offering greater winning potential. However, I would have expected Nolimit City to introduce new features or tweak the original format more significantly to make it stand out in its own right.
