Black Friday Slot (Shady Lady)

The Black Friday slot has 5 reels, 4 rows and 30 fixed paylines: a winning combination is formed when 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols appear on consecutive reels, starting from reel 1 (the one on the far left) and across any of the 30 paylines. Only the highest win per payline will be awarded.

With a 10p minimum bet per spin, the maximum bet is £5 a spin for UK players (or up to £2 if you’re under 25). Non-UK players can bet up to £50 per spin. The game features plenty of Karens and caffeine-crazed shoppers, all looking for 50% off discounts. However, it is more about survival than bargains!

In this tongue-in-cheek game from Shady Lady, the setting is a shopping mall parking lot, which has turned into a war zone with eager shoppers. Full of SUVs, pickup trucks and shopping trolleys, the soundtrack has a slight Western twang.

On the reels, the low-value symbols are represented by toilet paper, toasted Pinkies, shotgun bullets and massage guns. The higher-value symbols include 4 different shoppers: you have an old man on his mobility scooter, a smoking mum and her baby, a redneck with a shotgun and Karen with a handgun. Karen is the best paying symbol awarding 2.5, 5 or 20 x your total bet for 3, 4 or 5 in combination.

In terms of special symbols, there is a Wild symbol that substitutes for all paying symbols above: it also pays 2.5, 5 or 20 x bet for 3, 4 or 5 across a payline. You’ll also come across characters such as a Cop, Protester (who resembles Greta Thunberg) and Politician (with the latter looking a lot like Donald Trump): their functions are outlined below. The other symbol of note is the Black Friday Scatter, which is key to triggering 2 bonus features.

Black Friday Mobile

Road Rage Re-Spins

When 1 or more of the special characters (the Cop, Protestor or Politician) lands on the reels, the Road Rage Re-Spins feature will be triggered.

• Cop: when a Cop lands, a compact car (driven by a Karen) drives onto the reels, running over the Cop and transforming into a 2-high wild with no multiplier.
• Protestor: when a Protestor lands, a pick-up truck (driven by the Liver King) drives onto the reels, running over the Protestor and transforming into 3-high wild with a random fixed multiplier.
• Politician: when a Politician lands, a techno truck (driven by Elon Musk) drives onto the reels, running over the Politician and transforming into a 4 high-wild with an increasing multiplier (which increases each time it nudges down).

Transforming the reel into wilds, if the car is shorter than the reel, a blood trail fills the rest of the reel with wilds. On each re-spin, the cars nudge down 1 step. If new characters land, more cars appear. The re-spins continue as long as cars appear on the reels.

Parking Lot Stampede 

The Parking Lot Stampede feature is triggered randomly during the base game: a stampede clears the reels of all low-value symbols. The good news is that the Road Rage Re-Spins feature can also trigger at the same time for maximum carnage.

Bonus Game

The Bonus Game feature is triggered by landing 3 Black Friday Scatters anywhere on the reels. With no fixed number of free spins, the feature continues until 1 or more characters are pushed below the reels.

On each free spin, new characters can land at the top of a reel, pushing existing characters down. Every character carries a coin value that is awarded when the character is eliminated, by a coked-up Rambo character called Sam.

With 3 external screens active on each free spin, they can display blank (which does nothing). The first 2 screens can reveal boosters that increase coin values or apply multipliers to weapons. The 3^rd screen can reveal a weapon:

• Pistol: Eliminates the bottom-most character
• Machine Gun: Eliminates the bottom-most character for every reel
• Laser: Eliminates all characters on a randomly-chosen reel
• Nuke: Eliminates all visible characters

As mentioned, a characters’ coin value is instantly awarded and multiplied if a weapon multiplier is active, once eliminates.

Before each spin, a brawl may break out: characters fight until 1 remains, with the survivor/winner absorbing the others’ coin values. Look out for Karen as she covers 2 reels and carries coin values up to 2,000 x bet. In brawls, Karen always wins!

Super Bonus Game

If you land 4 Black Friday Scatters during a base game spin, you’ll activate the Super Bonus Game feature. Playing the regular Bonus Game feature, there is major difference: the screens will never display blanks.

Filled with US stereotypes such as Karens, cops, protestors and politicians, you could easily assume this game is from Nolimit City.

Humorous, fun and a tad controversial, there is a lot going on in terms of bonus features. The special characters trigger Road Road re-spins, which see various cars drive on the reels to give you 2, 3 or 4-high wilds (and multipliers for the 2 higher-value ones). With every re-spin, cars nudge down. The key is to land new characters as they keep the re-spins and multipliers coming. If you activate the Parking Lot Stampede feature at the same time, only high-value characters appear on the reels for more re-spins and wins.

Then you have the Bonus Game feature where characters land at the top of reels. Each containing a coin value, the external screens will boost the coin values, display weapons and apply multipliers to weapons. I like the random brawls as this sees the winning character absorb all the others’ coin values.

I found Karen to be the key to big wins: she is 2 reels wide and carries coin values up to 2,000 x bet: she will always win her brawls for big win potential. In the ‘Super’ version, no blanks can land on the screens allowing for a more lucrative feature, potentially.

With 20,000 x bet max wins, Black Friday is satirical and a fight for survival. Stereotypical characters battle it out during the re-spins and free spins with Shady Lady cleverly including the Liver King, Elon Musk, Donald Trump and of course Karen to humorous effect. According to Shady Lady, it’s relatively common to see 500-1,000 x bet wins compared to previous releases with it being more and less volatile at the same time.
