Beheaded Expert Review
Theme, Audio + Symbols
Released on the 18th of June 2024, the Beheaded slot has a horror theme. According to Nolimit City, the game is based on a lone survivor who has washed up on a tropical island after a violent shipwreck. Without his knowledge, a soul-devouring Tzantza collector lurks in the shadows to add another trophy case to his collection.
Tzantzas are known as shrunken heads to Shuar people with tribe leaders displaying these heads to scare enemies. Shuar people are an indigenous ethnic group who inhabit the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Amazonia. Unfortunately for the lone survivor, they are known for their hunting skills and tradition of head shrinking.
The setting is an island at night where the visuals are dark, sinister and creepy, the soundtrack is eerie. It has a black magic/ritual feel and is not a game for the faint-hearted or to be played at nighttime if you’re easily scared.
On the reels, you’ll see symbols suspended by ropes. They include A, K, Q, J and 10 royals which are all made out of bones. Then you have 5 shrunken head symbols and 5 blue/glowing high-value shrunken heads with the best-paying symbol awarding 9 times your total bet for 5 in combination.
Beheaded comes with plenty of special symbols. There is a substituting Wild which replaces paying symbols only. Look out for the Scatter (a blue/glowing shrunken head in a jar) which is key to triggering the Tzanta Spins feature. There are also 3 Soul Wilds which come into play when high-value symbols are collected.
Beheaded Mobile
With Nolimit City slot games created using HTML5 technology, Beheaded can be enjoyed (if you want to call it that) on desktop, tablet and mobile devices. It’s available to play on iOS and Android smartphones with the 5x4 layout perfect for mobile play. For the full (and scary) experience, a laptop or PC device is always recommended.
Bonus Features
The Beheaded slot has 7 bonus features. All interact with each other as you aim to collect symbols to progress through the levels to benefit from Wild Zones up to 3x3 in size, multiplier increases and 3 Soul Wilds. There are also 2 free spins features with one of them offering you the chance to gamble for the max win or add up to 8,000 x bet to your win.
Progression Bar
Below the bottom row, you’ll see a Progression Bar. When you land a winning combination, the contributing symbols and symbols below them are cut which sees them disappear from the reels. This allows for new symbols to fall in from above.
There are 5 levels of ‘Progressions’ with the Progression Bar resetting for each level up. Exceeding collections are carried over to the next level with fallen Wilds, high or medium-value symbols advancing the Progression bar.
A Wild symbol is worth 3 per winning symbol with high-value symbols worth 2 per symbol. Medium-value symbols are worth 1 per symbol. Each level converts medium-value symbols into high-value ones. Here are the points you need for each level:
- Level 1: 15
- Level 2: 25
- Level 3: 50
- Level 4: 80
- Level 5: 110
Tzantza Spins
The Tzantza Spins feature is triggered with 3 dropped Scatters. 6 free spins are then awarded. For each skipped level, you’ll get 2 more free spins. Finally, the Progression Bar resets with each new spin.
If you buy your way into the Tzantza Spins feature, you’ll progress the Progression Bar to level 5 with 10 free spins. All medium-value symbols are replaced with high-value symbols.
xBet
At the cost of 2 times your total bet, the xBet feature is 3 times more likely to trigger the Tzantza Spins feature. The RTP rises fractionally to 96.04%.
Pick A Potion
When the Tzantza Spins feature ends without a maximum win of 15,950 times bet achieved, you’ll have 2 choices:
- Butterfly Bottle: guarantees a win between 5 and 8,000 times your total bet (on top of your win).
- Skull Bottle: gamble your win for a chance of winning the max win or lose it all. The higher your win, the better your chances of winning the gamble.
Soul Wilds
Beheaded comes with 3 Soul Wilds with individual Soul Collectors that collect Souls from dropped high-value symbols after a win. The Soul Wild feature is enabled in the following order:
- Level 1: the Happy Soul Wild is activated with a total of 4 souls
- Level 2: the Sad Soul Wild is activated with a total of 10 souls
- Level 3: the Angry Soul Wild is activated with a total of 18 souls
Soul Wilds are only activated if no more Souls can be collected and its collector has been filled. The number of activated Soul Wilds will determine the size of the Wild Zone, 1x1, 2x2 or 3x3, and multiplies the general multiplier by 1, 2 or 3, respectively. This general multiplier resets after this happens.
All Scatter symbols appearing with the Wild Zone will award 1 free spin each. Finally, the Soul Wilds Collector resets whenever it fails to collect enough Souls or gets activated until the next spin.
Ayahuasca Spins
If you reach a new level of the Progression Bar, 2 free spins are awarded until level 4 or 6 free spins when advancing to the Tzanta Spins feature. If you buy your way into the Ayajuasca Spins feature, you will progress the Progression Bar to level 3 with 6 free spins. Importantly, 3 medium-value symbols are replaced with 3 high-value symbols.
Nolimit Bonus
Outside the UK, there is a Nolimit Bonus feature which is a Bonus Buy element. There are 3 options ranging from 100 to 500 times your total bet:
Option | Free Spins | Cost | RTP |
---|---|---|---|
Ayahuascca Spins | 6 | 100 x bet | 96-96.03% |
Tzantza Spins | 10 | 500 x bet | 95.94-96.08% |
Lucky Draw | 6-10 | 225 x bet | 95.99-96.17% |
With the Lucky Draw option, you have a 50% chance of playing the Ayahuasca Spins, 30% chance of triggering the Tzantza Spins or 20% of triggering neither.
Expert Verdict
The Beheaded slot is a confusing game that will make you feel like your head is shrinking, literally. Creepy and terrifying, it’s a collection title where the max win of 15,950 x bet is a lot more achievable than other NLC slot games.
My first impressions of the Beheaded slot are good. The imagery is superb albeit quite creepy and tantalising. It’s very Nolimit City as it’s dark and somewhat controversial which I love. That said, the gameplay will appear quite complicated at first and will feel like your head, like the lone survivor, is being shrunk.
It reminds me a lot of the Blood & Shadow slot where you need to collect winning symbols. This then fills the Progression Bar. Look out for Souls being collected from high-value winning symbols which activate Soul Wilds and determine the Wild Zone up to 3x3 in size. This applies a multiplier of up to 3x to proceedings.
With the Tzantza Spins feature, medium-value symbols are replaced with high-value ones for bigger wins. The xBet feature increases your chance of triggering it significantly. At the end of the feature, you can risk your winnings with the Skull Bottle to win the 15,950 x bet max win or choose the safer Butterfly Bottle to add up to 8,000 x bet to your win. In the Ayahuasca Spins feature, 3 medium-value symbols are replaced by 3 high-value ones.
If you can’t get your head around the above, I recommend playing the Beheaded slot demo for a while. It’s certainly a confusing game initially but you’ll soon get the hang of things. With max wins of 15,950 times your total bet, it doesn’t offer the max win potential of Tombstone RIP or San Quentin but the chances of hitting the top payouts are significantly higher.
In summary, the Beheaded slot is somewhat confusing but a welcome addition to their portfolio. Building on Blood & Shadow, it is certainly a Marmite game which you’ll either love or hate. Let’s just hope that the Tzantza collector doesn’t devour your soul in the process.
