Wayne Rooney favourite to take over at Everton
Wayne Rooney made his name at Everton, scoring on as a 16 year old against Arsenal in one of THE iconic Premier League goals.
Fast forward 20 years later and Rooney is now retired and managing Derby County in the Championship.
His experience in his current role, where he is somehow helping Derby have a chance of staying up despite two points deductions, has seen him installed as favourite with bookmakers in the next Everton manager market.
Next Everton Manager | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Wayne Rooney | 2/1 | 33.3% |
Duncan Ferguson | 3/1 | 25% |
Frank Lampard | 4/1 | 20% |
Fabio Cannavaro | 8/1 | 11.1% |
Roberto Martinez
|
10/1 | 9.1% |
Duncan Ferguson is second favourite in the betting market to take over at Everton next, with the former player currently caretaker manager at the club.
Former manager Roberto Martinez had been linked with a return to the club and was backed into favourite earlier this week, but national side Belgium seemingly didn't want to let Martinez leave his role.
Frank Lampard is another ex-Premier League player to be linked with the job and is currently odds of 4/1 to take over at Goodison Park.
Derby County are 9/4 to stay up, with Rooney currently managing the Rams
Wayne Rooney has been linked with the Everton job ever since it became available, but that coincided with a good run of form for Derby.
The Rams though were defeated by fierce rivals Nottingham Forest at the weekend and this means that Derby are now 8 points off safety.
With the potential threat of another points deduction it may get even worse for the club over the next few weeks, with a transfer embargo currently placed on the board.
Everton's poor start to the season continues
A home loss to Aston Villa at the weekend saw more protests by fans towards the board at Goodison Park.
The Toffees were defeated 1-0 by Villa thanks to an Emi Buendia header right on the stroke of half time.
Everton are currently 7/1 to finish in the top half by the end of this season, with their struggles continuing into Duncan Ferguson's interim reign.
The threat of relegation is slowly starting to become a real possibility for Everton and this may make up the board's mine over what they decide to do in terms of their management.
