Bookies now go 1/4 that TikTok will not be banned in the US by February 2025
With TikTok remaining in the news this week, OLBG have now looked at the latest odds from bookmakers that the US will ban the social media platform at some point this year.
The latest betting odds now sit at 1/4 for TikTok not to be banned in the US this year following the reports that TikTok sued the US Government over the potential ban earlier this month.
In a court filing submitted at the start of May, TikTok said that the US Government had “taken the unprecedented step of expressly singling out and banning TikTok”.
Those latest odds suggest an implied probability of 80% that TikTok will now not be banned from the US with the owners of the platform ByteDance saying that a sale isn't possible.
TikTok to be banned by 1st February 2025 | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Yes | 5/2 | 28.6% |
No | 1/4 | 80.0% |
What the expert says...
Bookies now go 1/4 that TikTok will not face a ban in the US by February next year after the social media platform put in a legal battle against the US Government earlier this month! The latest odds say there's an 80% chance that Joe Biden will get his way after signing legislation for the platform to be sold or be banned back in April.
Odds also given on both Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg buying TikTok at some point
Further betting specials are offered around TikTok including markets on who could potentially buy the platform in the future with both Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg in the odds list.
The US Government want ByteDance to sell TikTok before the end of the year else they will ban the platform from the US with security concerns citied as the main reason.
That may mean that one of X or Meta could try and buy the platform but the betting odds are fairly big for one of them to do so with Musk and Zuckerberg at 18/1 and 30/1 respectively.
Who will buy TikTok by the end of 2025? | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Elon Musk (X) | 18/1 | 5.3% |
Mark Zuckerberg (Meta) | 30/1 | 3.2% |
US President Joe Biden signed legislation that requires ByteDance to sell the app
Current US President Joe Biden signed a law back in April that gave ByteDance a 9 month span to sell TikTok as part of a foreign aid package.
Biden's signature made the divest-or-ban bill a law with the company now needing to sell the platform, although their legal challenge launched earlier this month may well delay that.
TikTok CEO Shou Chew was seen testifying before Congress last year where he explained where the company stored the data of American users of the platform.
