Odds now given for Elon Musk to buy TikTok with bookies making it 18/1 he does so
Bookmakers are now offering betting odds on different people in the social media industry buying popular platform TikTok after it faces a ban in the US.
Last Wednesday saw US President Joe Biden sign a legislation that requires TikTok's Chinese owner ByteDance to sell the app or be banned from the country.
Congress has worried for months and months now that TikTok's data collection poses a threat to the data being used and sold by the Chinese company.
Social media's though have always had our data and TikTok users have made reference to platform's like Facebook and Twitter, or Meta and X now, to keeping our data too.
The latest betting odds say there's an 18/1 chance of Elon Musk buying TikTok to add it to his portfolio that includes X, which he previously bought while it was Twitter for $44 billion.
Who will buy TikTok by the end of 2025? | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Elon Musk (X) | 18/1 | 5.3% |
Mark Zuckerberg (Meta) | 30/1 | 3.2% |
What the expert says...
US President Joe Biden signed legislation that requires ByteDance to sell the app
Joe Biden's recent legislation signing that requires ByteDance to sell TikTok has set a deadline of January 19 2025 for the sale of the app which would be a day before his Presidential term expires, although that could be extended.
TikTok has previously denied sharing US user data with CEO Shou Zi Chew saying that they will fight the ban and take legal action against it.
Interestingly enough despite signing the legislation to ban TikTok, Joe Biden will still be campaigning on the app with @bidenhq having more than 300,000 followers.

Meta could also buy TikTok with odds of 30/1 that the Mark Zuckerberg company buys the platform
Mark Zuckerberg's Meta will be watching this battle with TikTok intensely with his own Instagram Reels arguably the biggest rival to the TikTok format.
If it gets to a point where TikTok isn't sold and is therefore just banned, it would leave a lot of users looking to watch similar videos on other apps.
It may be that Zuckerberg sticks to that option or Meta may well decide to purchase TikTok and make it as their very own app themselves.
