  • Bookmakers collect after the 1st Champions League group games as team win 6 and lose 6
  • Both Liverpool and Man City are better than Evens with Bookies to NOT win this weekend
  • All 4 sides in action in the Champions League are favourites with bookmakers to win this weekend

Premier League sides have lost 50% of games after the first round of Champions League games

Premier League teams who qualify for the Champions League usually see themselves as favourites in their domestic games.

Following midweek Champions League games, it's fair to say that these teams may be tired after those fixtures and could therefore struggle in the games at the weekend.

On the first weekend after the Champions League games, we've taken a look at previous results for the four Premier League teams that feature in the Champions League.

PL Season  Wins on weekend after opening Champions League game Draws Losses
20/21 1 3 0
19/20 2 0 2
18/19 3 1 0

Only 2 losses have been recorded over the 12 games we looked at or 16%, Whilst 4/12 (33%) have been drawn. Using the 6 wins too (50%) there are generic odds for the outcomes

  • Win - 50% = EVENS
  • Draw - 33% - 2/1
  • Lose - 16% - 11/2

The 18/19 season was the best year in the last three for the Premier League teams that play in the Champions League, with 3 wins and a draw out of the 4 fixtures.

Champions League teams that play in the Premier League have a 20% chance of losing this weekend based on previous results.

Two of the sides have played each other after the opening Champions League game in 2 of the last 3 years

With two of the sides playing each other in the Premier League after the opening CL game in 2 out of the last 3 years, this shows that the statistics may well be skewed.

This season though neither side is facing each other, with the biggest fixture at the weekend being Chelsea facing Tottenham, with Spurs not being in the Champions League this year.

Odds with betting sites for this weekend's fixtures are:

To Win Premier League fixture To Not Win
1/5 LIVERPOOL v Crystal Palace 10/3
1/8 MAN CITY v Southampton 17/4
3/4 West Ham v MAN UNITED Evens
3/4 Tottenham v CHELSEA 11/10

The table's odds are based on the highlighted teams that were in champions league action during the week.
