  • Holders Manchester City are just 5/2 to retain the trophy for the 5th season in a row according to bookies
  • Opponents Wycombe are 500/1 outsiders to win the competition
  • Chelsea are second favourites for the EFL Cup with bookmakers giving them an 11% chance

Manchester City just 5/2 to retain the Carabao Cup

Pep Guardiola's Man City have won the Carabao Cup four times in a row, with their 1-0 victory over Spurs in April the latest win in the competition. Aymeric Laporte's winner made sure that City won the trophy yet again and that is something that Guardiola has enjoyed doing since taking over at the club.

At odds of 5/2 to win the Carabao Cup, it's fair to say that bookmakers feel Guardiola's men have a chance of making it 5 in a row!

Opponents Wycombe are 5000/1 outsiders to win the competition

Everyone loves a cup upset and it's 5000/1 that Wycombe win the Carabao Cup this year, but they would have to beat Manchester City on the way to doing so. Swansea [100/1]are the last team outside of the so called top 4 to win this cup, having beat Bradford City 5-0 in 2013.

Since then it's been a mix of Chelsea, Man Utd then Man City's dominance that have made sure that no massive outsiders have won the whole thing.

This year COULD be different with more teams playing weaker squads, focusing on other competitions and a mix of all of that put into one means that you may see an outsider storm through the Cup this year.

Chelsea second favourites at 5/1 to win the EFL Cup

Chelsea (5/1) are second favourites for the competition, with the Blues losing on penalties to eventual finalists Tottenham (12/1) in last year's campaign. That though was under Frank Lampard and they now look like a completely different team under Thomas Tuchel, with a Champions League trophy proving that.

Bookmakers think that Tuchel and co are the main rivals to holders Man City in this year's cup, with a home tie against Aston Villa (25/1) to get through for Chelsea in the 3rd round.

Elsewhere 3rd favourites Liverpool (7/1) have an away tie against Norwich, who they beat 3-0 in the opening game of the Premier League season. Manchester United have a tricky tie against West Ham, who look like a tough prospect as every match passes.
