  • Cristiano Ronaldo re-signed for Man Utd last week and it's seen the Red Devils fall from 9/1 to 5/1 to win the league with bookmakers
  • Betting sites consider a mixture of a favourable Group Stage draw and Ronaldo's return to make Utd as low as 8/1 to win the Champions League
  • Ronaldo himself has a 16.7% chance of winning the Premier League Golden Boot award according to bookmakers
  • Ronaldo now top scorer in International Football following brace against Republic of Ireland on Wednesday night

Man Utd being backed in to win the Premier League after Ronaldo signing

The return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Man Utd last week caused shockwaves around the football world, with Utd not in the running to sign any sort of forward with Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford set to rotate up top.

Signing Ronaldo doesn't come up very often though and with neighbours Man City expected to get him there was no way that Utd's board could allow that to happen so they paid the money and got their man back.

The day before Ronaldo's signing, Man Utd were 9/1 to win the Premier League with a variety of betting sites, especially after a demoralising performance and result in their 1-1 draw against Southampton the weekend before.

Throw in a mixture of one of their greatest players returning and a tight 1-0 victory away to Wolves and the Red Devils are now a 5/1 chance to win the league with bookmakers.

The return of Ronaldo shocked fans and pundits alike and has seen Man Utd odds tumble to just 5/1 to win the Premier League this season!

Ronaldo's return sees Utd into 8/1 to win the Champions League

With five Champions League titles to his name, Cristiano Ronaldo has won two more than Man Utd have as a club and he's looking to make that SIX this season. Again Ronaldo's comeback has seen odds start to tumble for another trophy this year, with Utd down from 14/1 to 8/1 to win the Champions League title with bookmakers.

A favourable Champions League draw also contributes to why the odds have fallen for the Reds, with the top seed in their group being Villarreal (although they did lose to the Spanish side in the Europa League Final last season). Italian's Atalanta and Swiss Champs Young Boys round up the group with Utd as short as 4/7 to win their group.

Group F Team Odds of winning group Probability
Man Utd 4/7 63.6%
Atalanta 10/3 23.1%
Villarreal 6/1 14.3%
Young Boys 33/1 2.9%

Third favourite to win the Golden Boot this season

A fantastic season in Serie A last year resulted in Cristiano Ronaldo being the top scorer with 29 goals. Second to Ronaldo was Romelu Lukaku with 24 and now both players see themselves in the Premier League this year and going for the top scorer prize again. Lukaku is actually 3/1 favourite with betting sites to win the award this year with the Chelsea forward expected to score a hatful of goals under Thomas Tuchel.

Last year's winner of the Premier League Golden Boot award is Harry Kane and the forward has stayed at Tottenham this Summer despite interest from Man City in the transfer window. Kane has won the award three times and is only fourth favourite at 7/1 to win it again this year.

Ronaldo now the highest International Scorer of all time

After a brace in Portugal's 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday night, Cristiano Ronaldo now sees himself as the outright highest goalscorer in International Football history. Ronaldo overtook Iran's Ali Daei in the victory and therefore is now arguably the greatest forward in international football history, according to goals scored at least.

Player Country Goals scored International Caps
Cristiano Ronaldo Portugal 111 180
Ali Daei Iran 109 149
Mokhtar Dahari Malaysia 89 142
Ferenc Puskas Hungary 84 85
Godfrey Chitalu Zambia 79 111
