Double Figure Success in 6 of 7 Olympic Games

Team GB has had two consecutive Olympics, respectively in London 2021 [29], and Rio 2016 [27] with record gold medal hauls; surpassed only by London 1908 when some 56 Gold were attained.

Tokyo 2020, will therefore see a fall in the total number and possibly not reach the 19 golds won in Beijing in 2008.

But with double figures assured on Sunday with Max Whitlock's gold in the Men's Pommel Horse Final, Team GB will collectively have secured a fifth consecutive Olympics with 10 or more gold medals and 6 events from the last 7 when including the 11 gained in Sydney in 2000.

Team GB Unlikely to Replicate Last 2 Olympic Table Finishes

Team GB is 6th in the overall medal table on Monday morning with 32 medals made up of 10 Gold, 10 Silver and 12 Bronze.

They finished 2nd in Rio De Janeiro in the last Olympics, an improvement on the 3rd place gained at London 2012.

3rd will be a tough task this year, as Japan already has 17 Golds, although are unlikely to add many more this week. Australia are currently occupying 4th place with 31 medals, including 14 golds, whilst ROC is currently 5th
