Harry Kane as short as 1/14 to break Wayne Rooney's goalscoring record before his England career ends

Harry Kane is currently fifth in the all time top scorer table for the England national team and is currently 12 goals behind the record of 53 set by Wayne Rooney in his 13 year England career.

Kane's England career has only been 6 years long and he's set to smash the record set by Rooney if he carries on at the speed he is currently going at.

Kane has an average of 0.64 goals per England game, and judging by those stats he is set to beat the record set by Rooney 21 games time. That's a lot of friendlies and qualifiers to get through!

Gary Lineker 48 80
Jimmy Greaves 44 57

Harry Kane has just over half the caps Wayne Rooney had

Harry Kane's goalscoring record for England is phenomenal when you judge it by the amount of games in which he has played for his country.

With 64 caps and 41 goals, Harry Kane would be on around 75-80 goals for England if he had the same amount of caps as Wayne Rooney and kept on going at the rate in which he currently is.

Wayne Rooney's goals per game rate for his country was 0.44, with 53 goals in 120 caps, but Harry Kane is much better than that at 0.64 goals per game for England.

With a record of 0.64 goals per game, Harry Kane is set to break Wayne Rooney's record in 21 games time for England

When could Harry Kane break the record?

Of course it's not a certainty that Harry Kane breaks the record set by Wayne Rooney.

At the age of 28, Harry Kane is around the peak years of his career, but a mixture of his injury record and the fact that the Tottenham striker isn't getting any younger may be a cause of concern for backers.

For Harry Kane to break the record this season, he'd have to have a great couple of international breaks in October and November and the calibre of teams means that he could well score a number of goals against them.

The probability looks likely that Harry Kane will end up breaking the record in the 2022/23 season, judging by the amount of international games in which Kane will play and the amount of goals he scores.

With an expected rate of 0.64 goals per game and 21 games time the thinking, it may well be that we're a year or two from seeing Harry Kane be crowned as the greatest England goalscorer of all time.

Season that Harry Kane breaks record Odds Probability
Never 6/1 14%
2021/22 5/2 29%
Before the Qatar World Cup 5/2 29%
2022/23 3/1 25%
2023/24 5/1 17%
