Griezmann makes shock return to Atletico just two years after leaving
After a tough two years at Barcelona, mainly being in the shadow of Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann made the move back to Atletico on Transfer Deadline Day last week.
Griezmann had a successful five years in his first spell at Atletico, with 94 goals in 180 games the reason why Barcelona paid €120m to buy the striker in 2019.
Griezmann will have competition from Luis Suarez to lead the line for Atletico this year, with another former Barcelona man in Suarez having a great season last year and being a big part of why Atletico won La Liga.
Griezmann is as high as 20/1 to win the Golden Boot in his first season back at Atletico Madrid, with some betting sites going as low as 12/1 for him to be top scorer.
Barcelona have drifted with bookmakers to win La Liga this year, with the departure of Messi and Griezmann plus extreme financial issues being one of several reasons why they have just a 24.4% chance to win the league.
Real Madrid are the favourites to win the league at evens therefore having a 50% chance of winning La Liga, with Atletico Madrid a 5/2 shot to win it.
Tough Champions League group sees odds rise for victory
Atletico Madrid were as low as 20/1 with some betting sites to win the Champions League this season before the draw took place, but since then their odds have slowly been rising up to the 28/1 price they're at now. With six-time winners Liverpool in their group as well as seven-time winners AC Milan, it's fair to say that they could have had an easier group this season.
At odds of 2/1 to win the group, second favourites behind Liverpool, betting sites are giving Atletico a good chance of getting through from their group and getting to the knockout rounds of the Champions League this season.
Group B Team | Odds of winning group | Probability |
---|---|---|
Liverpool | 6/5 | 45.5% |
Atletico Madrid | 2/1 | 33.3% |
AC Milan | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Porto | 11/1 | 8.3% |
Bookmakers make Atletico second favourites for La Liga
After winning the La Liga title last season by two points to cross city rivals Real Madrid, Atletico go into this season hoping for more of the same.
A draw early on this season against Elche means that they have already dropped points, but that's not affected them at all with them being joint on points with 6 other teams at the top of the league.
Before the summer transfer window closed, Atletico were 7/2 to win the league with betting sites, but the signing of Griezmann has seen their odds tumble down to 5/2 to win the league again this year. Bookmakers clearly think that the addition of Griezmann helps the team out drastically to win the league this season again.
