Since its founding in 2020, Print Studios has established itself as a provider of top-quality slot games, which are extremely popular at UK slot sites and beyond. With so many great online slots, such as Royal Potato, Tarasque, Holy Hand Grenade and Reapers, you'll find in-depth reviews of their games as well as free slot demos. Below, there are Questions & Answers interviews with Carl Wiggman, CEO at Print Studios.
Holy Hand Grenade 2 Dream Drop Q&A (August 2025)
Print Studios will be releasing the Holy Hand Grenade 2 Dream Drop slot on the 27th of August (2025). I spoke to Carl Wiggman, CEO at Print Studios, for a Questions and Answers interview regarding the much-anticipated sequel. Carl describes the inspiration behind this sequel, the new bonus features, the Dream Drop jackpot element and the non-jackpot version (set for release in November 2025). He also discusses plans for more Dream Drop slots, how the Uncle Profit slot was received and what we can expect from them for the remainder of 2025.
Q: How has 2025 gone for Print Studios so far?
CW: “Good thanks! Been a pretty wide array of styles of games thus far into the year. Our team additions have been fitting in real well, setting us up for bigger and better things ahead. The games have been doing well too, with Uncle Profit being the latest.”
Q: With Holy Hand Grenade being so popular, what was the inspiration behind Holy Hand Grenade 2 Dream Drop? Artistically, was it to keep things the same with slight modifications?
CW: “Given it was the sequel to such an iconic original (Holy Hand Grenade), there were barrels of inspiration for all gameplay aspects. Artistically, the continuation of the story was fundamental. We posted some historical records of the story on our LinkedIn recently, but the visuals in game deliver the best rendition. And yeah, in general, the idea was to upgrade; nothing removed, key bits improved.”
Q: Using the same bonus features, there are new Holy Hand Grenade types in the free spins: how does this change things from the original?
CW: “The new grenades give fans of Holy Hand Grenade a clearer path to what you really want from the original. The green grenade eliminates all low-payers from the explosion (the most common prayer in the YouTube congregation), the purple improves SuperSpinners (their absence tend to summon curses), and the blue grenade allows pay both ways, granting divine purpose to explosions in the godforsaken right-reel regions.”
Q: Why is Holy Hand Grenade 2 a Dream Drop jackpot slot? Is there a reason for this?
CW: “Our partner Relax Gaming have been pushing hard for their improved Dream Drop jackpots offering and we felt if there was anything weak about the original Holy Hand Grenade it would be the base game. Thus, a Dream Drop base game feature seemed like it would fit well. The feature itself is also a good opportunity to add bit more story elements outside of the obvious balance-boosting nature of the prizes."
Q: I see the non-jackpot version will be released in November: aside from the jackpots, are there any differences?
CW: “Yes and no. We have exchanged the jackpot feature with a similar feature that can also yield huge wins, so similar in gameplay but slightly different in math. The RTP rate will be 96.01% with the same 30,000 x bet max win. Which version is better depends on your jackpot appetite entirely, there’s benefits on both sides.”
Q: Also, this is Print’s 2nd Dream Drop slot: are there any plans for more DD releases?
CW: “Nothing at the moment, it depends on whether we have any concepts that would benefit gameplay-wise from DD, and whether we have ideas for fun ways of presenting it. Reception of this Dream Drop release will play a role as well of course."
Q: How was the Uncle Profit slot received?
CW: “Quite well! The summer period meant the launch didn’t break too many records but Uncle Profit has had a good tail with several thousand players checking in every day. I think the team did a great job with the unique theme and delivered the story well. Always room for improvement and lessons learned though that we take with us."
Q: Finally, what can we expect from Print Studios in 2025? Which games do you have in the pipeline?
CW: “I don’t want to spoil too much here, but I can tell you that we’ll break away from the tradition of doing a Darkness style Halloween game and a Plinko over Christmas. This is not because those projects haven’t been successful at all, but simply because we had too many other ideas we wanted to try. If you’re interested in getting sneak peeks and weighing in on the direction of the development, check out our Discord!”
Generic Q&A (October 2024)
OLBG’s Chris Taylor spoke to Carl Wiggman in a general Questions and Answers interview. The Q&A covers how their year has gone, how new slot games are created, their most popular slots, mobile usage, regulation in the UK, sequels, Dream Drop jackpots, the newly-released Dreadworks slot and the future.
Q: How has 2024 gone for Print Studios so far?
CW: “It has gone well. Our plan was to create a studio of this size, making fewer games that see longer long-tail performance, and we've managed exactly that.
There's been room for improvement in how our games are launched though, we saw a few titles leak out for review before they were finished which is a bit of a shame.
Since we do all aspects of game production in-house and have a very stable team, it takes a bit of time to get back on track but we'll get there.”
Q: How are new slot games created? What’s the process?
CW: “Will be quite long-winded to go through in detail but a lot of ideas come from our conferences (we are remote but meet up twice a year) and just trying a lot of stuff with prototype tools.
Then we just bite into it together, leaving full ownership with the hands that create the puzzle pieces that make up a game.
The basics of those pieces are Illustrations, Animations, Math, Sound & Music, Development and then the producer tying it all together.”
Q: What are Print Studios’ most popular slot games? Are there any that are particularly popular only in the UK?
CW: “We have a few that are vying for the top spot, but Pine of Plinko 2, Royal Potato and Royal Potato 2 do well of course. Currently, it's Dreadworks kicking some spooky butt but still early days there.
In the UK, Holy Hand Grenade has been especially popular, along with Huntress: Wild Vengeance and Out of the Ice.”
Q: What % of players play on mobile vs desktop?
CW: “Varies a lot from site to site, but say 70% mobile roughly overall.”
Q: What challenges does Print Studios face with regards to regulation in the UK?
CW: “It's always a moving target so hard to say where it'll end up. From a player's perspective, I think the bet limits might push away people with deep pockets to the black market while still not making a difference for people with low income.
It doesn't matter if the bet limits are 10p, £1 or £10 - you could still lose the few hundred quid you need to make ends meet with a low income (in which case you shouldn't gamble).
Some people however can spend thousands and it's no big deal; the thrills were worth it, and it would make sense that those people are incentivised to play regulated.”
Q: Can we expect sequels to some of your existing slots?
CW: “Yeah for sure, we're seeing plenty of interest for many of our games. Holy Hand Grenade and Cash Defense have come up a bit, but we only go ahead if the ideas come to us so that we can live up to the hype.”
Q: Is there a plan to release more Dream Drop jackpot slots?
CW: “Currently not one in the pipeline but that's probably also a case of the right idea and right timing and we're on.”
Q: Can you tell us a little about the recently released Dreadworks slot game?
CW: “Dreadworks is a game we spent a lot of time on the atmosphere of. Immersion and story were key, trying to deliver a full-blown horror experience while gambling. Not very gory, but highly suspenseful and creepy as hell.
The mechanics are a spiritual successor to our last Halloween game, Darkness, where the bonus revolves around completing a five-step challenge to summon an incredibly scary yet lucrative finale.”
Love scary slot games?
Q: What can we expect from Print Studios for the rest of the year and beyond?
CW: “As boring as it sounds - more of the same! Except it won't be the same, it will be brand new game mechanics in productions that look and feel better than you've ever seen before.”
Q: Do you have a particular favourite slot from Print Studios? If so, why?
CW: “It would have to be the Out of the Ice slot or whatever is new. I'm actually not a big bonus buyer with my own cash and I know the stats on that one makes it our ‘easiest’ max win (he he).”
Q: What other slot games from other providers do you like/play?
CW: “Usually prefer new and unknown just because I've grinded so much of the big providers on demo before it comes out live. So it's really a crapshoot based on feeling but smaller studios like Booming Games, Rogue and 4ThePlayer usually get some action.”
