The Saratoga Race Course Guide
The Saratoga Racecourse has been around for a while! First opened in 1863, this course is considered the oldest thoroughbred race track in the US.
The racecourse is located in Saratoga Springs, New York. Being located in uptown New York, the course is one of the most popular in the country.
Also, one of the very few to feature a dual turf course along with a dirt course. Working from in to out, the first turf track is a seven-furlong oval.
The next turf track is just over a mile oval, this is known as the 'Mellon Course', and then the dirt course is one mile and one-furlong oval.
The dirt track features a 1144ft run-in and also a starting chute. Saratoga, as well as flat racing, also hosts steeplechase racing on the turf.

Saratoga Notable Races
There are four major races held at the Saratoga racetrack.
The Travers Stakes is a Grade 1 open to three-year-old runners and is run over one mile and two furlongs.
The race is a favourite for jockey Javier Castellano, who has won it six times since 2006.
The Whitney Handicap is another Grade 1 race. This one is open to runners aged three years old or older and is run over one mile and one furlong on the dirt.
This is a good race to win as you get an automatic entry into the Breeders' Cup Classic!
Finally, both the Alabama Stakes and Woodward Stakes are also Grade 1 races.
The Alabama Stakes is run over one mile and two furlongs and is open to three-year-old fillies.
The Woodward is run over one mile and one furlong and is open to runners aged three or older.
