Penn National racetrack opened in Grantville, Pennsylvania in August 1972, and since 2008 is part of the Hollywood Casino complex.
The dirt track is one mile in circumference and stages races over distances ranging from 2 furlongs for the quarter horses up to 2 miles.
A seven-furlong turf course is inside the dirt track and stages races over distances ranging from five to twelve furlongs on the flat and has staged hurdle races over two miles and half a furlong.

Penn National's signature race meet is in early June featuring seven stakes races worth a total of $1.3 million including their only graded stakes the Grade 2 Penn Mile run on the turf track with a purse of $500,000 and the $200,000 PA Governor's Cup, also on the turf over five furlongs.
The Holiday Racing Festival in late November features three stakes races including the Fabulous Strike Stakes for three-year-olds and upwards over six furlongs which carries a purse of $200,000.
