Authoceltic is still a maiden after seven hurdle races and one chase. He came close to winning his first chase at Newton Abbot, taking up the running on the approach to the last, only to clip the last fence and lose his back legs slightly on landing, giving up the lead again to Haas Boy. On the short run-in, he could not recover the lead. He has been put up three pounds but may still get his first win.

The pick of those efforts was his 2nd place finish behind Ballytechno at Ascot. He definitely bumped into a useful handicapper there. Only beaten 2L. I really like Ballytechno. I think he's got plenty in hand, especially now sent chasing. He won easily off a mark of 118 LTO. He made his chase debut over this trip at Chepstow just 15 days ago, following a 198-day break. He ran very well in what looked a strong class 3 handicap (a race I think will work out very well). He ran well for a long way. He crept into contention 4 fences from home. Lack of run kicked in. He was beaten 15L by the winner Palacio, with the aforementioned a winner for the column on that occasion. Now he goes back right-handed (all 3 career wins going this way around), with a recent run under his belt. Dropping in grade. I think he could break his duck over fences if putting in a similar performance this time.
