Now only 2 lb higher and dropping in class, he looks attractively treated if able to reproduce that latest effort. The return of James Bowen is another positive and suggests connections mean business. With proven stamina, suitable ground, and encouraging recent form, Sir Carnegie looks to hold strong claims in this company.

Aill Dubh has the chase experience and gives a stone and a half in weight to the Class 5 hurdler The Flying Poet. Sir Carnegie may be more of a danger.

Similar Story ran better than her finishing position suggests last time out over 3m on good ground at Kelso. That was a clear improvement on recent form for the 8-year-old. The previous five starts saw her complete only twice, one from well out of the handicap. She has dropped to a workable mark, 10 lb lower than her last winning one. If she builds on that last run, she has a better chance than the odds suggest in this race.
