Hardstyle was well beaten in three maidens at 5 furlongs but was much better when stepped up in trip in handicaps. Black Tango showed more last time, cheekpieces may sharpen focus, market support encouraging, speed pedigree suits this track, likely to settle better, travel strongly and find enough improvement to overcome trip doubts and win.

Uncle Nader ran a very good second at Chelmsford, making his move late in blinkers off a 2 lb lower mark. With the extra cheekpieces first time, that could sharpen him further. Rossa Ryan is up for Jack Jones ??' a top pairing at Lingfield ??' and his recent distance placings suggest to me that he should track the pace before staying on strongly. A cracking each-way chance in my view.

Chilliconcarneigh is a filly who has shown limited form so far but has hinted at a bit more ability than the bare results suggest in all-weather races over sprint trips. She handles the surface, has shown some early pace, and remains lightly raced, which leaves room for improvement at this level. In a race lacking depth, she could step forward if breaking better and settling into a smoother rhythm, giving her a chance to run closer than previously and get involved at a price.

Probably can be forgiven for its run last time out. It was slowly away and fluffed its chances. Prior to that it had been in very good form and was ridden by its usual jockey. Today it should see a return to that good form.

It's drifting like a barge, but horses in her last race have won. Marquand has a good record on 3yos for the trainer, and the owner does well with her horses. If not today, she will come in on another.

Parole Board is a gelding who has shown his better form in low-grade all-weather handicaps over this sort of trip. He has runs where he has travelled well before keeping on without quite getting there. His profile suggests Lingfield suits him. He handles the surface reliably and stays the distance well enough for this level. Off a mark that gives him a chance, and in a race that should allow him to find a rhythm, he looks capable of running to form again and being competitive if things fall right.
