Double Powerful has been a bit unlucky so far this season, unseating and falling when still in contention last time out at Ludlow. Despite jumping to her left and losing ground as a result, she was still competitive when coming down four out. She had previously run an excellent race on her chase debut here at Cheltenham in the October meeting, given plenty to do as usual and clearly in need of the run, tiring only in the closing stages. Neil Mulholland’s mare clearly enjoys this track, having won here over hurdles last year, and the booking of Sean Bowen is eye-catching. At around 3/1, she looks capable of making amends and getting involved.

Pike Road is two pounds out of the handicap here and also a pound worse off with Spike Jones. Both ran well over course and distance, finishing third and fourth. Pike Road ran on again at the finish after dropping out of contention following a mistake mid-race.
