How to Bet at Brighton

This idiosyncratic track is undulating with many bends, a downhill section and a testing uphill finish to the line. The adverse camber hampers horses going at 35 mph, as forward motion is negated as runners slope towards the rail.

The gradients make it a good track for the handy type of horse, but they can run out of gas if ridden too enterprisingly as they meet the uphill finish, where jockeys can be caught out by the steepness of the final 2 furlongs. Due to the nature of the track, course specialists do very well here.

Big horses tend to struggle on the track as you need balance around the turns and the camber. Horses that have run well at Goodwood, Bath, and Epsom should be noted, as these courses are similar in many ways to Brighton.

You often see trainers running their horses at Bath, Brighton and then back to Bath during the summer months, especially when the going is good or good to firm. The grade of racing at Brighton and Bath tends to be similar.

Being on the Sussex Downs overlooking the town and the English Channel, many a meeting starts in glorious sunshine before being rendered invisible for the racegoer or television watcher, because of the misty fog coming in from the sea. Betting in running at Brighton can be hazardous to your wallet when the fog comes in. If the racecourse commentator cannot distinguish which horse is leading, then it would be wise for us punters to give the race a wide berth.

When the ground is soft, you often witness horses brought to the stands rail (nearest to the crowd) to dissipate the camber, which slopes towards the inside of the course, as they look to find a stretch of grassless affected by the soft conditions.

How to Use the Brighton Tips

For each race day at Brighton, you will find each race listed above. If there is currently nothing listed, then there is no scheduled meeting; head over to the main Racing Predictions page for picks from other courses with races today.

When there is a race day, each race listed will highlight the runner who has received the most picks from the OLBG racing tipsters.

Along with that runner will be the current odds, the number of tips supporting the runner, as well as the percentage of tips from the race that the runner has received.

If there are any runners listed above you want to bet on, use the 'Add' to betslip option for the runners you wish to back.

You can then see which bookmaker is offering the best odds for the selections in your betslip, select this bookie, and your betslip will be transferred over to their site, where you can then place your bet.

If you wish to view a race in more detail, click on the race name, and the race page will be loaded. On there, you can view every runner and how many tips each runner has, as well as read any comments which have been left on the race from the tipsters.

Brighton Draw Bias

✅ If you want the most profitable stall at Brighton, then you need to look at races over 1m and focus on stall 5, as this has produced an LSP of +46.92 over the last five years.

❌ With an LSP of -59.79, the most unsuccessful stall at Brighton is stall 1 when backing runners over a trip of 1m over the last five years.

Here we have the draw bias for Brighton taken into consideration in races with ten or more runners. We will break down the figures by race trips. Draws can be much more important in shorter trips, where runners do not have time to find their position during the race, meaning the draw is probably more important than in races over longer distances.

  • Sprints (5f to 7½f)
  • Mile (1m to 1m1½f)
  • Middle Distance (1m2f to 1m5½f)

The following table shows a breakdown of a group of trips and shows how each position of the draw does, for example, in a twelve-runner race would be Low (Stalls 1-4), Mid (Stalls 5-8) and High (Stalls 9-12). The positions will always be the lowest stall number to the highest.

Brighton Jockey & Trainer Statistics
