McLaurey was one of the talking horses at the preview evenings for Cheltenham and was extremely well backed for the Plate, where he ran a very good race until the final bend, when he was carried right. He was clearly hampered and unable to close the gap on the impressive Madara. Emmet Mullins, who has an excellent record at this venue, drops him in trip and fits a tongue-tie. He was travelling really well last time until that scrimmage, so this could prove a good move. It is another big lottery with around 20 runners, but he has gone well on right-handed tracks before and could be an interesting contender for powerful connections. At around 7/1, with bookmakers paying extra places, he has solid each-way claims.
