Cadillac Championship Tips

Fewer than 20 players have played here in competition before, so experience is key. It's long, very long, and water everywhere off the tees and on approach shots to boot. It will demand power off the tee. Therefore I suggest 3 for the field, and it's no surprise they head the field. All being well, the winner will come from one of them. First up, no surprise: Scottie Scheffler. Tipped up last time when beaten in a playoff and, surprisingly, only won once this season. He remains the best on tour from tee to green. Can't leave him out for this.

Makes his debut on the Blue Monster. With his power and accuracy on and off the tee, this long course suits him perfectly.

Still suffering with back issues, but that said, still playing well. Two top-10 finishes since the Masters. His approach play will come into effect here for sure.

With world number 1 Scottie Scheffler being such a short price here, there might be some each-way value. Tommy Fleetwood is in good consistent form, and with his brother was a winner of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last week.

Jake Knapp ranks 8th in strokes gained total on tour this season and 7th for strokes gained putting. Him being so high up in terms of putting is a great indicator that a win is coming soon. Coupled with his elite-level ball striking, he will eventually run over a field.

2016 was the last time Doral hosted the World Golf Championship, and Adam Scott won the event by a shot from Bubba Watson, with Masters champion Rory McIlroy in third. His record at Trump National makes impressive reading, with four other finishes of 9th or better. I am siding with the Australian to go close this week.

Harris English has made 9 of his 10 cuts this season and his consistency has been through the roof. The 5-time PGA Tour winner could grind his way to a win here this week on a demanding course. His game looked in great shape coming in after his best finish of the season last time out with a T4 at the RBC Heritage.

Justin Rose did well for a long time in the Masters and eventually finished in third place, two strokes behind the eventual winner. He is not out of it.

Kurt Kitayama might be the least talked about multiple PGA Tour title winner in the last handful of years. He has shown he can win in these elevated/signature event fields, having previously won the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He came close to another earlier this season, finishing 2nd at the Genesis.

The American was 21st and 12th in his last two starts, and I fancy Keegan Bradley isn't too far away from a big week. At Trump National Doral, he has two top-eight finishes in four starts, and I am siding with Bradley to do well in the Cadillac Championship.

Sahith Theegala already had four top-10 finishes under his belt this season, and he looks to be edging his way back to the form that saw him break through as a PGA Tour winner. His game translates well to this course, where distance can be a key factor, and his appetite for risk can pay dividends as well. He had a T6 earlier this season in a stronger field than this in a signature event at the Arnold Palmer. With a handful of top guns skipping the week for scheduling issues, I think he is value here.

Shane Lowry had an awful fourth round in the Masters and finished well down the field. He is capable of doing much better. He could get a place here.

2??'3 years ago when we arrived at a course where ball striking was the name of the game, Tom Hoge would have been a consideration for most at odds in the 50s range. Here we are, deep into triple-digit long-odds territory, and I think the upside is there. He steadied the ship with four solid rounds at the RBC Heritage, but it is last week's showing??'where he finished T6 alongside Billy Horschel at the Zurich in a more relaxed atmosphere??'that I am hoping will have brought more to his game and confidence levels. For Hoge, the feeling of going low, even if on an easy setup, could unlock a bit of freedom with the putter. If it does, he could contend for a place here.
