Boisson easily cleared the first-round barrier, but her stay in Seoul is likely over. This season, the Frenchwoman has played six matches on hard courts, winning two of them. What can she offer a player as experienced on hard courts as Alexandrova? As soon as Ekaterina picks up the pace, Boisson will immediately feel the full force of the hard courts. I expect a forfeit victory for the Russian and am banking on Alexandrova to win.

A powerful serve and the ability to change pace at will are Perricard's weapons, and he can certainly win against Misolic.

At first glance, Arnaldi seems like the clear favorite in this match, despite his difficult period. He's lost to tough opponents, while Cazaux could easily stumble against weaker opponents. But guess what? The Frenchman is a dedicated hard court player, whose tennis relies on a powerful serve and an aggressive forehand, so a switch to the hard courts of China could easily bring a marked improvement. Don't expect the same from the Italian, who hasn't yet fully adapted to hard courts, as his failures in Cincinnati, Winston-Salem, and New York demonstrate.

Indeed, it's naive to think Kovacevic will have an easier time against Royer than against Nardi. The Frenchman, though considered a lesser player on the tour compared to the Italian, has been on the rise lately. His close encounters with Khachanov and Shapovalov during the American Series are proof of this. The American, however, has been far from impressive since the Los Cabos final. Consider his immediate elimination from the home Major at the hands of Wong, who is the only player ranked in the top 200.

In this case, much, if not everything, depends on Berrettini's fitness. Despite numerous injuries, he remains a top-level tennis player. His victories over Djokovic, Zverev, and De Minaur this season are proof of that. Svrcina is no exception, but has been in sharp decline lately. In the qualifying round of the US Open, he lost to Spain's Merida Aguilar, despite being the favorite, and in the Hangzhou qualifiers, he was overwhelmed by Kazakhstan's Skatov and crushed by Italy's Zeppieri (1-6, 4-6). The Czech athlete makes an unacceptably high number of errors; with such a game, he stands almost no chance against a strong opponent. It's easier to believe that Berrettini had time to prepare for the tournament than to believe that Svrcina has miraculously transformed.
