Although Coventry won promotion from the Championship, it would be a major surprise if the defending Premiership champions did not get off to a winning start. We have often seen a large gap between teams coming up from the Championship and established Premiership teams. No reason to think this will be anything other than a home win for Arsenal.

Last season, Hull finished sixth in the Championship and won promotion to the Premiership, having beaten Middlesbrough in the play-off final after Southampton were thrown out. Manchester United finished third in last season's Premiership table. The last away Premiership game played by Manchester United saw them win at Brighton by scoring three goals and conceding none. If they start the season as they finished last, then there is every chance Manchester United can see off one of the newcomers to the Premiership.

At the end of last season, Everton finished slightly higher in the table than Crystal Palace. Since then, Palace have appointed a new manager who has come from France. Given the stability in the Everton team and with David Moyes still in charge, I'm going for Everton to make a winning start to the new season.

Last season Leeds finished three points ahead of Nottingham Forest. Forest won their first home pre-season friendly. So, with home advantage and having beaten Leeds in this fixture last season, I'm taking Forest to make a winning start to the new season.

Last season, Sunderland were the surprise package of the Premiership. However, that is not a guarantee they will obtain another top-seven finish this season. Ipswich won promotion last season, having finished runners-up to Coventry. The last time Ipswich welcomed Sunderland, they won.

Following a change of manager, Tottenham began to find some form at the end of last season and eventually finished one place above the relegation zone. Their last two visits to Brentford saw them collect four points. The manager has now had plenty of time to work with the players, so I expect Spurs to make a winning start to the new season.
