French Ligue 2 Format & Previous Winners
The French second-tier known as Ligue 2 was founded in 1933 and contains 20 teams who compete to get promoted to the top tier Ligue 1, each season each team plays each other home and away competing in a total of 38 games.
The top two sides get automatically promoted to Ligue 1, the bottom two in Ligue 2 get automatically relegated to the Championnat National whilst the 3rd from the bottom goes into a playout.
