Fifteen runners at the time of writing. Willie Mullins enters FOU DE TOI. He's currently 1/2 favourite but has only ran once in France back in May 2024. He has a Triumph Hurdle entry and we know what Mullins is capable of, but I'm not tempted at all. Second favourite, VITORIO PIEL at 5/2 has raced three times, all at Punchestown, although finishing 2nd last time, there were only five runners and the form of his races has been mediocre. PUMA'S DREAM (8/1) showed marked improvement on only his second run in a decent quality race finishing a close-up 4th of 20. Similar distance and conditions today will suit, and with Elliot's top jockey booked, a bold show is expected.

LE LABO (2/1) won a bumper here over today's distance last March on his Rules debut. Not so impressive on hurdle debut in November, unseating at the first, he was obviously still very well regarded when going off at 11/2 three weeks later at Cork. He ran a blinder that day and was 4 lengths clear of Kazansky when falling at the last. Kazansky has since gone on to win a Grade 2 and finished a close second in a Grade 1 recently. That level of form is head-and-shoulders above anything in this race and a repeat of that effort, without the fall, will give him his win.

Lightly raced having had three poor runs in bumpers in early 2025, UPTOWN LASS (66/1) showed significant improvement after a summer break to finish 9 lengths 4th of 6 on hurdle debut, losing 3rd place with a mistake at the last. The form of that race has turned out to be quite respectable and she has a sporting chance here, Stanners Glen and Count Of Vendome at the head of the market look strong but there is little else of note form-wise so UPTOWN LASS could easily sneak a place......or better!

Close-up efforts in two decent bumper races last season, EMERALD TIME (33/1) makes his hurdle debut today. I have already napped SHERMINATOR in this race, but Emerald Time could easily make the podium with a good round of jumping in a race with little depth to it.

SHERMINATOR (5/2) is lightly raced winning on hurdle debut in January 2025 before winning again under a penalty two months later - the form of those two races has worked out well. After a 277 day break, he was running well in a Class 2 hurde at Cheltenham in December when taking a heavy fall. Bryan Carver rejoins him today and he rates a great value bet in this race. Others of note are Skelton's FIRST CANDIDATE (4/1) and the EMERALD TIME (33/1).

LOYAL PRAETORIAN (10/1) rates a good value each-way bet here in a race where those at the top of the market have significant questions to answer. He seems to prefer today's soft/heavy conditions and could have a big shout today.

Not another Dan Skelton horse, surely?! Well I like the look of COUMEENOOLE (10/1), recently joining the Skelton stable from Ireland. At first glance he looks exposed but his best form seems to be over hurdles at the middle distance of two and half miles and he doesn't want it too soft either. The conditions are good in that respect and son Harry is again in the driving seat. The Henderson horse, Reckless Spending (9/2) looks the main danger.

Dan Skelton trained SHEEZER DANCER takes a big drop in class here after flopping in a Listed event at Newbury last time under Tristan Durell who employed hold-up tactics. The average OR of the runners in that race was 120 and she finished a well-beaten 8th or 9 runners. Three weeks earlier, son Harry Skelton did the steering job keeping him close-up to the pace. That was a Class 2 event over the same course and distance, and although the grade of race was slightly lower, the average OR of the runners in that race was 127. She finished a close-up 6th of 13 that day and the 5 in front of her have all won races since. Harry also got her within 1 length of the winner in a Class 2 bumper on her Rules debut. Maybe Harry just gets on with her and thats the angle I'm siding with, that and the fact the Skelton stable are in fine form........think I said that yesterday too!

Skelton's stable are in fine form of late and although MADE U BLUSH (13/2) only won a Class 4 last time, she did so in emphatic style. Secret Force was 15 lengths ahead of Lord in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham in November and these two are potentially classy, but at the weights and with expected improvement, she's in good hands and a player in this small field.

The ground at Sandown today is heavy but that will only be another good reason to side with CRACKERJACQUE (3/1). He won a very strong Class 2 bumper here on similar ground on this course last year and has since run well on soft ground. He destroyed the opposition by 7 lengths on hurdle debut in November, but arguably the best piece of form was his last run back in December where he raced in second place in a Grade 2 hurdle over 2m 4f until fading at the 2m 1f point. Back down to 1m 7f today in a Class 3 should see him win this if showing the same form.

Not often I pick two horses in the same race on OLBG as one must be a win bet and the other an each-way, but WISPIT TWOB (33/1) fits the bill nicely. Rated top speed rating on Geegeez and carrying a featherweight in today's heavy ground - almost 2 stone less than his market rivals with weight allowances, he is unexposed having only ran twice but showed ability last time when finishing second of twelve at Cork in November.

I don't normally bet on handicap hurdle races, in fact this whole service specialises in non-handicap hurdle races so maybe consider this an unofficial bet! Betting with Bet 365 gets us 5 places and SALIGO BAY looks a great bet having won 5 of his last 6 hurdle races including one at this level back in September, all of those races have been decent quality judged on how many horses have gone on to win or place in other races. Yes there are others with good form in this Class 2, which is to be expected, but anything over 20/1 looks amazing value.

The Skelton stable are in flying form and he runs two in this 5-runner race! Top of the Geegeez speed ratings and joint-top on Racing Post Topspeed, I'm taking a chance on the outsider of the two (and the race), ROYAL INFANTRY. He's no forlorn hope but he'll need a career best to win this but small field races can often throw up unexpected results and with all five runners preferring to race mid-field or held-up at the back, this could be a muddling race with changes of pace and a sprint finish throwing the form out of the window.

Odds-on favourite, Hold The Serve, carries a penalty for winning an above average quality race last time out and looks the one to beat, but CONSTANTINIAN knows the track after winning a bumper here last March and made a respectable hurdle debut in November. With that experience under his belt and a lack of depth to this race, should see him at least place today.

Close-up placed efforts on only 2 hurdle runs in November and December on heavy ground so today's soft surface should hold no problems. Prior to that, he contested a Grade 3 bumper in April 2025 so he is obviously highly regarded. His rivals today are nothing out of the ordinary and a bold show can be expected.

This race is quite competitive but PORT STATION has the services of Brian Hughes this time after finishing close 2nd and 3rd on his only 2 hurdle starts back in November, those races were against good quality opposition with the form working out well and a repeat performance will see him bang there.

ROARIN SUCCESS was a decent flat horse and made an encouraging hurdle debut last month at Catterick in a hot race for the grade. Finishing 6th of 7 doesn't look that great and the Racing Post comments of 'soundly beaten' are unfair in my opinion, she raced just behind the leaders for the most part but made a couple of junping errors which done her chances. She obviously has a good turn of foot and was still charging forward at the end and she will have learned a lot from her debut run. Today's rivals are nothing special and on bare ratings, she is 3rd highest RPR, and 2nd highest Topspeed and Geegeez SR. McCain's horses are in good form at present and with the jockey and fillies allowances, she has 12lb on the prinicipals.
