Donnacha and Jagwar pulled 10 lengths clear in the Betfair Handicap Chase at Cheltenham in January, with Donnacha coming out on top by a head. He gets a penalty and hasn't raced since, so maybe trainer Nigel Hawke had this race in mind since then. Should go well again and is still improving.

O'Briens horses haven't been really firing this week but have had the odd horse running well but Hawk Mountain looked very good when stepping up in class to win the Futurity at Doncaster in bad ground and is a classy individual and taken to progress today.

Trainer Neil King has had a fantastic week, and his team have a great record at Fakenham this season with a 100% record from three runners. He only has one runner today in Breezethroughlife. The horse had a breathing operation following a poor show at Doncaster 31 days ago but was eased after a mistake in that race. Back to Class 4 here, and a return to good ground should bring some improvement.

Failed to put in an effort at Fairyhouse in the Bobbyjo Chase when down the field in 7th, but was sent off a 3/1 favourite. That was following a 2nd at Newbury when giving weight to Panic Attack. 11th in last year's National, but has had a light campaign this year and should be in the mix again at a big each-way price.

Missed the Cheltenham Festival and is starting to fulfill his potential over fences now. He put in a superb performance at Thurles, jumping and travelling beautifully and winning by 28 lengths. Handles good ground and has won at Aintree over hurdles. Comes into the race fresh.

The Arkle was a race of changing fortunes and jumping errors at critical times. Lulamba made his mistake 2 out but battled on well for 3rd and was in the process of running a big race. Ben Pauling has an intriguing runner in the last race on the card, the bumper. Octo Gane ran fourth in a bumper at Huntingdon on 9th May 2024 and has not been seen since. It's the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse and typically very competitive. I like last year's 6th, Better Days Ahead, who has had this as his target all season. He has had two prep runs over hurdles and then a Grade 2 chase, both at Navan and both over inadequate distances, but they have sharpened him up. He is off the same mark as last year, skipped the big festivals for this race, likes to race prominently, and jumps nicely. Each way, 6 places.
