Went into my notebook after finishing 3rd here at Lingfield over today’s distance of 1m 2f in Class 2. I liked that he really picked up turning in and hit the front, but ultimately went too early and was picked up late on. Down in class here, but it was a really competitive race. He has recently moved stables to John Ryan, and any improvement puts him in the mix again.

Totally unexposed on racecourse debut but has good experience from point-to-points. The Paul Nicholls yard usually sends a good one to this race and has a good record. Jockey Harry Cobden has three rides, but this looks his best chance in the lucky last.

Started the season over fences and, despite getting tired in heavy ground on debut, it was a good starting point in better company. Plugged on gamely for 2nd last time out behind a nice type and now drops a lb in the handicap, and jockey Luke Scott takes off a handy 3 lb for his claim. Progressing nicely, and his main rival has to deal with a stiff penalty today.

Switched trainers to Ian Jardine from Ireland and started off handicapping off 88 in Class 5 and finished 3rd. Well supported next time, winning at Musselburgh as an 8/13 fav on soft ground. Has struggled a bit since the penalty but has had wind surgery and the mark has dropped. Should appreciate the good-to-soft ground.

Won nicely at Newcastle when dropped in grade and found his level. Won by 6 lengths and couldn't have looked more impressive. Only had three runs over hurdles and is progressing nicely. Trainer has a great record at Ludlow with a 41.7% strike rate this season.

Won the Spring Mile in March last year here at Doncaster and then was demoted to 2nd after minimal interference. Similar ground today, so conditions should suit. Higher in the handicap, but put in a good performance off 97 when 2nd at York in the Autumn Mile. More is needed here, but has a strong finish, big-field experience, and a prep run at Wolverhampton.

Low-grade stuff here, but the Marco Botti-trained Lexington Express has run consistently well without success. Showed up well for a long time at Southwell last time out, hit the front one furlong out before getting tired late on, and finished 5th. Previous to that, he went off favourite here at Wolverhampton over 1 mile and, although 3rd, he wasn't beaten far. Could be able to dictate the pace here and get first run.

Even though he opened up a short favourite at 5/6, he has been supported in the market into 10/11 favourite now and is very much in order. He started chasing in fantastic style, winning at Catterick, and then just failed next time. The form holds up very well, and despite today's penalty he should prove hard to beat.

Made a return over hurdles last time at Plumpton after a run of poor efforts on the flat. Although third, the run was eye-catching in that the jockey was very positive from the front. Was all the rage at Wetherby last time in a Class 4 novice hurdle and backed into 2/1 favourite at the off. Although fourth, he plugged on gamely in soft ground. He should progress now with better ground at Carlisle and is now handicapping off a reasonable mark of 110, considering those ahead of him at Carlisle have progressed in their next runs.

Despite running around and showing plenty of inexperience, he managed to finish 2nd in pretty soft conditions when making his debut at Chepstow in December. He followed that up with a shade cosy win at Taunton when well fancied to prevail, and he did it nicely. He gets a mark of 120, which could be more than fair, as the second at Taunton has gone on to win off 124. Plenty of progression to be had, although drying ground could be a problem. Still good to soft at present.

A winner on the flat at Southwell in January and then here at Sedgefield, he won a Class 5 conditional jockeys' hurdle in good style. Has done really well since arriving from Ireland to Fergal O'Brien's yard from J.J. Hanlon and has won three and was fifth last time. Exploited a handicap mark of 86 and has now risen to 95 but has dropped 2 lb for that fourth at Plumpton when sent off 6/4 favorite, but got tired in the closing stages. Still room for improvement and could find Exeter a more suitable track than the tight turns of Plumpton.

Won the Berkshire National at Ascot in good style by 11 lengths. He jumped well and travelled throughout over 3m5f on good ground. He won that off 131 and then struggled next time in the Welsh National off a mark of 140, but still managed a respectable eighth on good to soft. Last time in the Edinburgh National he went off favorite, then dropped to 139 and, although a well-beaten second, he returned to form. Now dropped another lb, he must surely be a factor at an each-way price.

My ante-post selection pulled out last week in Galopin Des Champs, and it's been a tough call. Jango Baie ran well in the King George, finishing just half a length behind some of today's rivals. A two-time winner at Cheltenham, he will relish stepping up in distance again. I can see him finishing the race late and strong.

Willie Mullins and Harry Cobden team up again here with flat recruit Hipop de Loire, who has his third run over hurdles and won a Galway maiden hurdle by 11 lengths on his last hurdles try back in July 2025. He then went to the flat and was sixth in the Ebor at York, third in the Doncaster Cup, and twelfth in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket in October. Not the easiest to give a solid form shout, but totally unexposed and could set the pace here. A big each-way price.

Glengouly has run two poor races since a shock 33/1 winner of the December Gold Cup over 2m4f at Cheltenham. He has to prove he can stay and that the penalty hasn't taken too much out of him. He likes to set the pace and hopefully can get into a good rhythm and put his rivals under pressure.

Despite a 10 lb penalty for winning, he did so in such an emphatic style he could still be in front of the handicapper. He was heavily fancied to win at Newbury and delivered at 11/4, and followed up his Class 2 win at Market Rasen. Still progressing, he won his last four, likes to be up with the pace, and is a strong finisher. But this is a big step up.

Fact to File bypassed the Gold Cup on Friday to take the easier option here in the Ryanair, but he has his quirks and bombed out in the King George in December. Jukebox Man, Banbridge and Gaelic Warrior fought out an amazing finish that day, and Banbridge was unlucky not to win. Banbridge hasn't run since then, and Sean Bowen got on well with him and takes the ride again.

The stayers are wide open this year, and one I've fancied for some time is Honesty Policy for trainer Gordon Elliott. Tenderly ridden last time at Ascot, but he has had this race in mind for some time since winning a Grade 1 at Aintree. He's tough, he gets three miles, he can handle big fields, and he is a very backable price now.

Wodhooh should prove too good here, but the price is awful, so a chance is taken on Feet of a Dancer for trainer Paul Nolan. Regents Stroll was a beaten favourite at Cheltenham in January, a race that was not run to suit. The form has worked out well, with the winner that day winning again. He is very well thought of by connections and was a very good hurdler when second in the Turners Novices' Grade 1 at Aintree. Again, this race is wide open, but he holds a very good chance if he gets a good position.

Bambino Fever is all the rage here in the Mares' Novice Hurdle after winning the Cheltenham bumper last year and following up with the Punchestown bumper. His hurdle runs have not been anything special and he hasn't beaten anything. One that I like at a big price is Amen Kate at around 40/1. She has done nothing wrong in her hurdle races and has improved with every run. Jack Kennedy keeps the ride and could sneak a place.
