A rather weak unseat last time at Uttoxeter halfway through the race when a fancied 6/1 shot. Has been putting together several good performances without winning and runs off the same handicap mark here. A tight race here. But after two chase defeats, and both when favourite for the Willie Mullins-trained 6-year-old, he shouldn't be written off yet. Twenty-one lengths second last time at Leopardstown and no chance with the winner. He did make some clumsy jumping errors. He will find today's contest easier and might be suited by the changing ground conditions.

The opening race at Punchestown is a wide-open five-runner novice chase. On that, I like Relieved Of Duty for trainer Gordon Elliott. He ran poorly when last of five over course and distance and now returns from a break of 84 days. He had previously looked good when second at Cheltenham and when winning at Fairyhouse. He is taken to return to form against a vulnerable favorite in Pure Steel.

Looked more the finished article next time when second over 5f here at Dundalk and did well from a poor draw. A step up to 6f will help, and this race is weak. Very impressive when winning at Punchestown when up in class, and can continue that run here after a decent break. Holds a Cheltenham entry and will have to run well here to make that trip, but the main aim may be the Grand National in April.

The best of today's racing comes from Ireland, but there are plenty of short-priced favourites on offer. Zanoosh comes into this race in fantastic form after winning a maiden hurdle at Punchestown in mid-December and then followed it up with a handicap win at Navan. She runs here in a mares' race but is up in class. The form is rock solid, and she handles the ground conditions better than her main rivals.

Didn't really work out after three runs over fences despite winning at Exeter and now reverts back to hurdles. Did nothing wrong in novice hurdles races last season, but the step up to the Ryanair Mares' Hurdle at the Festival was a step too far. A rating of 129 here is pretty fair, and her form holds up pretty well against today's rivals.

7th place in the 2025 Triumph Hurdle when making hurdles debut and fancied at 50/1 but ultimately ran a very sound race. Followed it up at Punchestown with a similar performance, proving it wasn't a fluke, and then got sent back to the flat with mixed success but at the highest level. Now needs a good performance here to make the two Cheltenham Festival entries in the Supreme or the Turners.

Ali Carter has been in brilliant form in this year's German Masters and looked good when beating O'Sullivan 5-3, making a break of 134 in the first frame and then frame-winning breaks of 73, 95, 71, and 75 to secure victory. He followed that up with a 5-0 win over Xu Si, with five breaks over 60. He meets Stuart Bingham today, who is also on a good run. This match will surely be an open affair, with both playing aggressive snooker, but Ali Carter is taken to come through as he is the more consistent player.

Dead-heated last time at Chelmsford but got stuck out wide in the early stages, which was not ideal. Turning in, he was still travelling nicely but got intimidated by the horse on the inside and drifted, then was joined on the line. I liked the way he travelled. I think his price would be a lot shorter, but he has a poor draw in 8. He does break well and can get across early. He might improve going the other way round.
