One I like here is French raider Sahlan, who had mixed form last year with a disappointing run at the start of the year but then two eye-catching performances at Deauville: winning from off the pace in a Group 3 and following it up with Group 1 success at Longchamp. On his final run of the season he finished 5th at Del Mar in the Breeders' Cup, but the track probably didn't suit his racing style and he can reverse form with the eventual winner Notable Speech. A decent enough price each way, and he can finish off strongly from a wide position ??" French style.

It was a tough season with place finishes at Ascot and the Curragh and a 7th in the Arc. But on the final run she got the better of a tough field to win on Champions Day at Ascot. Season debut here and hopefully ready. Trainer Andrew Balding has had plenty of winners this week and plenty running well, so the stable is in form. Kalpana is a class above her rivals here and should win going away.

She showed an electric burst of speed that day to close from the back. Reports from the yard have been very positive.

It's 2000 Guineas Day at Newmarket, the first Classic of the season, and Distant Storm, trained by Charlie Appleby, holds a great chance. The key bit of form could be his third in the Dewhurst here at Newmarket over 7f back in October 2025. Sent off 9/4, he never settled when off a strong early pace. When asked to move closer it looked hard work, and he got slightly impeded a couple of times in a very messy race. He was not asked too many questions when his chance had gone. He should be on the premises again with a clear run.
