One of the outsiders, but there are reasons this horse could sneak into the places. His mark is beginning to ease, and Jo Mason takes the ride. Last run over 6f at this course in October 2024, finishing a good second on heavy ground. He probably needed his two comeback runs last month. Current going is GS, but with more rain forecast I think that might suit this experienced horse. The draw might help as well. Each-way chance at decent odds.

I've been a little torn between two in this race. Mercurial was the other horse that could go well, but on the basis of the current going, draw, and handicap mark, Free Solo edges it for me. However, if there was significant rain at Roscommon, Mercurial would also be worth an each-way bet.

This horse finished a good second on her comeback run at Pontefract in April. She has not been so good in two runs since but is now very well handicapped on a course she has won on previously. She appears to be best suited to stiff tracks. A good chance if she bounces back from two lesser efforts.

This looks like a very open handicap, and there are lots with chances. Beauty Choice went close over 6f at Catterick in October and is now five pounds lower in the weights. A bit disappointing on the all-weather over 7f in four runs this winter, before an underwhelming return to turf at Doncaster in March. On a handy mark if able to bounce back. A risky one, but could outrun his odds.

I've gone through the racecard at York and haven't found a lot that I was confident about putting up. Nevertheless, this horse could be worth an each-way bet. It has run on the Knavesmire twice before, coming second both times. It spent the winter running at Meydan without success. It nevertheless appears to be fairly handicapped, is well drawn based on yesterday's results, and benefits from Billy Loughnane in the plate. Worth chancing each-way in my opinion at the current odds.

This veteran hasn't been at his best of late over the larger obstacles, but a return to hurdles should suit if the fire still burns. He won here last summer over two miles seven furlongs on good ground off a mark of 92. Very well handicapped as he races off 85 today, but it depends on how much ability remains. A bit risky, but just the kind of horse that I like to give a chance. Each-way chance.

This horse races off a career-low mark. He has been mixing chasing and hurdles. Pulled up in the last two chases, with midfield finishes in the previous two hurdles, resulting in a current mark of 83. Last hurdle win was at Roscommon almost two years ago off 90. He has to prove how much ability remains, but today's conditions are in his favour. Probably now or never for a bounce back. Risky each-way.

There are two I quite like here with decent records on the flat to take on the top of the market. Dark Note is worth a chance, but the one that edges it for me is Sequoiaspirit. Recent runs over hurdles haven't been great; he pulled up last time out. Nevertheless, he has run well at this track over hurdles and on the flat. Fairly handicapped, and with five previous wins on the flat??"one here??"he's worth chancing each-way if a return to this code can spark a revival.

This race is a tough one to call. There are a few really well-handicapped horses currently at very appealing odds, and if any can spark a revival we could have a shock here, as it looks a winnable race. At the prices, I can't ignore Secret Magician, who has tumbled down the weights. Dropped another six pounds here. It's risky, but if a bounce-back happens he could sneak a place at generous odds.

This is a funny old race to assess. There are some horses at the front of the market carrying penalties, some with questions over the ground, and others that don't look in good enough form to capitalise. Dr Rio is a six-time course winner and previously won on good-to-firm here last year over 12 furlongs. We know he handles the stiff uphill finish and is likely to be staying on. The question is whether his mark is too high for this trip and, indeed, what his best trip is these days. I don't think he'll win today, but at current odds he's a decent each-way bet or one for multiples.

A risky each-way bet. The form of this mare has been pretty poor, to put it mildly. Nevertheless, that puts her on a good mark. Billy Lee, today's jockey, seems to get the best out of her. Billy Lee hasn't ridden her since a placed effort in November 2024. It could be just one final throw of the dice with this horse, but I'll take a chance at the current odds.

I like this horse today for a number of reasons. Firstly, his mark has fallen to what should prove competitive. Secondly, he drops in class into a C6. Third, and for me perhaps most important, is the jockey booking. This is an apprentice handicap, and I rate Mason Paetel as one of the most promising up-and-coming riders. Everything seems right for a good run.

This mare won at Tramore last April off 114. She finished a fair third over an inadequate trip at Naas last time out in February after making late headway. Three furlongs more today should help off 109. A seven-pound claimer retains the ride. Hopefully she finishes strong to challenge late if not outpaced.

Based on his last three runs, which were all placed efforts at or around this mark, there's reason to believe this long-standing maiden will be competitive today. If the step up in trip brings improvement, he could push the more established trainer and jockey combinations at the head of the market. Hopefully we don't get any non-runners, as I prefer the three places on offer each-way.
