A race that appeals from an each-way angle with the filly Suzuka taking up a big share of the market. She was beaten off a mark of 61 last time and doesn't look that well treated. Jamie Osborne's sole representative at the meeting is of interest off a sliding handicap mark. He perhaps found the ground too fast at Bath last time and was well held at that undulating course. He was second on the all-weather at Chelmsford in August when rated 63 (now five pounds lower). He is plenty fit enough and may put up an improved performance tonight. Class-dropping Lord Capulet would also be of interest were Kevin Ryan's yard in better form.

The cleverly named Sioux Perfect, by Sioux Nation, won a very strong contest with something in hand last time at Newmarket over six furlongs. Quite a few of her defeated opponents were only raised a pound or left alone by the assessor and have gone in since or placed. This would suggest a rise of five pounds might under-estimate Sioux Perfect's achievement last time. With a US sire she should take to the artificial surface on debut at Newcastle.

He has been racing against older horses recently but showing signs of being competitive again off his falling handicap mark. At 13/2 there is still a bit of value in Federated. He goes particularly well at this right-handed all weather track. His last run in a more valuable class 3 competition can be passed over, as that was after a break of 73 days. He should be pitch perfect after that and back down into class four as he bids for a second course and distance win. Fox Journey might be the biggest danger, dropping in class and the weights but he might find this trip on the sharp side despite De Sousa's services in the saddle and first time cheekpieces.

Just Keep Flying's debut win was quickly given a knock when Club Class (3rd and rated just 75) put the filly back in her place at Kempton next time. Day Of Grace had to go to Thirsk to break her maiden in a weak race with Catton Lady, rated 65, runner-up. So with these two needing to improve, Pink Lily is suggested as a danger. She runs five pounds better at this track (twice a course and distance winner). Highly tried in Listed company last time, she slots back into this class 4 handicap. Our Golden One would be a big threat too if rekindling old form, having not run in this grade since April 2024.

Runners from the Ayr Silver and Gold Cups coming into focus in this race, with the latter appearing to be the stronger form. Toyotomi was below par that day with the soft going and the draw creating a big field split he wasn't competitive. However, he has been dropped five pounds by the assessor to a mark of 97. A reproduction of the form he showed four races ago in a Deauville Group 3 would give him a good chance today. At Deauville he was 3 lengths behind Beauvatier who won the Group 2 Challenge Stakes at Newmarket yesterday and will undoubtedly rate higher than 111. So if Toyotomi can run to anything like that level back in July he would be over-priced at 14/1 and with Billy Loughnane riding out of his skin at the moment, there is a lot to like.

Tortured Soul and Kingkeer were both running after a lay-off at Kempton in September. That was quite a strong class 4 handicap, and Wine Dark Sea (6th) went a neck second in the Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket this afternoon, putting a very interesting frank on the form. Tortured Soul lasted out a lot longer than Kingkeer, which was no surprise given he has plenty of winning form over a mile and a half. Tony Carroll's charge has been eased a pound by the assessor and drops in grade and steps up to optimum distance. It would be no surprise if he improves from that comeback run. 33/1 appeals each way.

That idiosyncratic course looked against Advance Twentyfive, and he went on to run a very good race in the Goffs' Million at the Curragh, not far behind the likes of Dorset and Composing - rated 107 (runs this afternoon in a Group 1 at Newmarket). Stormy Monday has the sort of pedigree which points to his current vein of winning form continuing, despite a five-pound rise in the weights. Home-bred by Too Darn Hot out of a Frankel mare, the three-year-old colt is staying 10 furlongs well and has a good turn of foot. Soft or good to soft ground on a flat track is ideal. The class 4 he won at Doncaster last time has some substance, with the runner-up winning on the bridle next time out. 11/2 about Stormy Monday seems most fair. Front-runner Due To Henry could set the race up for a battle at the finish.

With four class-droppers in this handicap it is likely to be run at decent pace. Along with Metabolt, We Dare To Dream has been just a little outclassed in better company but has nonetheless been running well and making his presence felt. He "won" off a mark of 87 in a Class 3 at Haydock in July, until demoted to second in the Stewards' Enquiry, so today's handicap rating of 85 should keep him in the mix. Sir Mark uses a good claiming apprentice with a seven pound allowance, suggesting his runner is not as well-in as he might have hoped.

The market has got Ultrasoul about right at 3/1 although he switches back from the artificial surface to turf and has it to prove on good to soft. Transparent and Navagio are of interest against the favourite. Transparent went well last time at Newbury's flat mile on easy ground. Navagio has slipped to a very competitive mark and went very close to landing the spoils last time over a stiff seven at Beverley until meeting trouble in running. A return to a mile on easy ground poses no problems and with better luck may well compensate.

The form of the £30k Goodwood maiden that Pearl River ran in has already been given a decent boost when A Taste Of Glory - 2.5L behind Pearl River that day - duly obliged on Monday by winning a 13-runner maiden race at Brighton with something to spare. Pearl River wasn't given a hard time when unable to catch smart-looking Bay Of Brilliance over ten furlongs on good to soft, and it now looks likely the opening handicap mark of 76 for Lord Carnarvon's colt is somewhat generous, albeit this is quite a hot little nursery.

Personal Best was given a short break of 7 weeks or so after the summer. She then ran a creditable fourth last month in a better race than this (Spirit of Jura ran badly), and the form of the Class 4 handicap race she won in June is working out well. Jonathan Portman's filly acts on soft and stays the trip, which may give her a stamina advantage over Brielle, who won over 10 furlongs at Ayr. 8/1 looks a fair price.

This looks like an intelligent bit of placing by Archie Watson and connections. Wiltshire Wonder was making a return to the racetrack after having most of the year off, and the Wootton Bassett five-year-old probably did not see out the mile and three quarters at Southwell against some decent staying handicappers like Tryfan and Road To Wembley. Medway Queen looks underestimated in the market. Her last run can be disregarded to some extent as she bled from the nose. She is much better judged on her debut run when runner-up at Nottingham, to be denied by just half a length over a mile. Assuming she is none the worse after a nice break of 90 days, she should be better for the step up in distance and evidently goes well fresh.
