Most recently finished second out of three runners in a novice hurdle at Ayr over 2 miles and 4 furlongs on good to soft ground, starting as the strong 4/11 favourite just 19 days ago. Gaucher, a six-year-old course-and-distance winner, took some time to hit peak form but has since shown significant improvement. After finding his rhythm and jumping more fluently, he delivered an impressive performance to win stylishly at Navan on his penultimate outing. In his most recent run, just 23 days ago, he faced a tough challenge, giving weight to several higher-rated rivals. Despite that, he held his own admirably in a race where his stable impressively filled the first five positions. Today's conditions??"course, distance, and ground??"are all in his favor, and he's already proven his ability to carry a substantial weight without it affecting his competitiveness. With his current form and favorable setup, Gaucher looks well-equipped to be a strong contender from the outset and could be in the mix at the finish.

I'm going to take a chance on Muker here. I think 16s is very generous for a very progressive horse that's set to land a win soon. First start of the year was in a class 3 race and maybe just needed the run. Muker ran a good race back in October to finish 2nd in a class 3 with Alex Jary taking the reins, and that was off a mark of 82, the same as today's mark. But Alex Jary takes 5lbs off, so Muker should definitely be in the mix off a low mark here.

Jeany May has shown steady progression, getting off the mark in a 6-runner nursery at Nottingham over 5 furlongs on soft ground last November. She was well suited by the strong pace that day and finished strongly to score. On her seasonal reappearance, she ran a creditable race to finish fourth in a competitive 14-runner handicap at Catterick (5f, good), confirming she has trained on well. She now runs off the same official mark, but with promising apprentice Alex Jary taking 5 lbs off, she is effectively only 1 lb higher than her last winning mark. That puts her well in contention, and with a race likely to be run to suit her closing style, Jeany May holds solid each-way claims once again.

Take No Chances has progressed well this season, with consistent form figures of 3152133. Her only unplaced effort came in the Fighting Fifth, impressively won by Sir Gino, where she was held up and made mistakes late on. Before that, she won a Listed race convincingly, and her third at Cheltenham in December has since been franked??"the winner landed the Martin Pipe, the runner-up took the Betfair Hurdle, and the fourth also scored in Listed company. She followed that with a Grade 2 victory at Ascot, giving weight to Kargese, who later won the County Hurdle. At Cheltenham, she ran a career-best to finish third in the Mares’ Hurdle, just nine lengths behind Lossiemouth and one length behind a 151-rated rival. She confirmed that form with another third behind Lossiemouth at Aintree. With strong right-handed form (1233121), Sandown should suit her well, and she looks well-priced compared to Kitzbuhel.

Most recently, he made his chasing debut in a novice event at Tramore over 21.8 furlongs on good to soft ground, finishing a respectable fifth of thirteen at odds of 12/1. That performance showed some potential for improvement, especially considering it was his first outing over fences. He now steps up to make his handicap chase debut, and with that initial chase experience under his belt, connections will be hopeful of further progress. His most recent success came at Southwell over 1½ miles, where he displayed tenacity and determination to battle to a dead-heat finish. The 5 lb rise in the weights seems fair, considering his consistency and grit. If he can transfer that form to turf, there's every reason to believe he'll put in another strong performance. Patrol is proving to be a reliable and game contender, especially in staying trips, and continues to progress with each run. If handling the ground, I think Billy the Kid should be able to outrun the odds on Patrol, making this a nice each-way play.

Cash may be relatively lightly raced for his age, but he showed he still possesses plenty of ability when finishing third in a listed contest over this course and distance on good ground seven months ago. On that occasion, he was left with a bit too much to do in the closing stages, yet stayed on strongly to hit the frame, underlining his class. A talented type with a turn of foot, he has since been gelded??"a change that could help him settle better and bring out further improvement. While he certainly has the ability to win races at this level with a clearer passage, making his seasonal reappearance in what looks a competitive renewal is no easy task. He's now dropped to a career-low handicap rating, and we know that 5 furlongs on good ground suits him perfectly. His last three turf victories came under similar conditions off marks of 71, 60, and 65. He lines up here off 66, with the jockey taking 5lb off.
