Jipcot drops back to 2m4 after slightly tailing off over 3m last out. Experts are saying he is perfectly suited to this course, distance, and trip. This is only his second run over fences and he sprung a shock win at Leicester in January. He still has a few pounds of improvement in him. He has been jumping fluently, and this is key at Cheltenham.

Handstands is the class horse in the race and has the potential to cause an upset at a big price, having won the Scilly Isles Novices' Stakes last year by beating Jango Bae, who is not a top contender for the Gold Cup. Steel Ally is making it three wins from three starts since switching to fences. Including a 10-length win at Warwick, for me this eight-year-old of Sam Thomas is being overlooked at these odds. He has shown a classy, versatile, sound-jumping style that is crucial in the fast-paced Arkle. He posted a quick time in his latest win. Needing a career best to beat the Grade 1s is not out of the realms of possibility, considering he is nowhere near his ceiling. Dylan Johnston stays on to ride. He is 1 in 10 in the last 14 days and has what it takes to make a prominent run or even a front-running outing due to his proven stamina. He has beaten thin fields before; however, the manner in which he has done so suggests he is more than ready for the step up.
