The favorite could be a world-beater but is only a 4-year-old, and Jour Devasion could expose any weakness as he is likely to be set alight and play 'catch me if you can.' Jour Devasion was leading them a merry dance last time out in a class 2 before being swamped late on. He may have won or placed if that race was over 2 miles and could be rated 125/127 today. Now he is dropped 2 lbs and in class. He has the best handicap hurdle form in the race, and adjusted times of his last outing over the first 2 miles would rival the favorite's graded form. STD has not finished outside the top 3 on him.

Winners of this race have their last race at Cheltenham, Newbury, Ayr, or Ludlow. Only Jubilee Alpha and Porter in the Park meet this criteria. 6-year-olds have by far the best record in this race, but usually, they carry less weight. Lavelle won this in 2019, and Porter in the Park takes the same route via Ludlow. 8 winners from the last carried 10 stone something. A lively alternative to the favorite.

Cobdon has won on the last 4 out of 9 mounts for Lavelle (+3.42/9). Tarahumara beat Lumi Plugin, who in turn beat Smugglers Haven, and that horse has since won a class 3 chase at Cheltenham. Has won 3 times when racing from a break. Could be time to catch him.

If rain stays away and there's no soft in the going, then it looks overpriced at 16s.
