Cumbrian trainer George Bewley, whose last two runners have won at Ayr on Saturday at 33/1 & 12/1, has, I believe, a well-handicapped hurdler on his hands in the shape of his 5yo, Mornington Beach. Runner-up to a 1/4 chance in a novice hurdle at Hexham over two miles behind a 1/4 chance 35 days ago on his second run after a wind-op, he makes his handicap debut off what seems a lenient 97, especially as being a PTP winner, he's sure to improve for the extra half-mile.

Paul Nicholls has touted his 5yo as a possible Champion Chase contender. If the hype is correct, he should win this off a mark of 156 despite giving weight to some good handicappers. A few of the yard's runners have needed the run, but seeing as Kalif Du Berlais' preference for good ground, I would expect him to be pretty straight for this.

Freddie Keighley rode a cool race on the Paul Nicholls 7-year-old, and it's no surprise he's kept the ride. This has cut right up, with 4 of the runners making their seasonal and chasing debuts. This stiff track is a difficult course for chasing debutants, so the value lies with Alastair Ralph's experienced front-runner, for whom the drop in trip is a huge bonus.

Clive Cox's juvenile did us a big favor when winning the Goffs Half-Million at York's Ebor meeting and possibly surpassed that run when caught late on in Doncaster's Weatherbys Scientific 300k at the Ebor meeting. That showed soft ground holds no fears for the 2yo and this drop back to 6f is a big plus.
