The form of Paddy De Pole's win at Sedgefield last month has worked out well, with the 2nd and 3rd both winning next time out. Freddie Keighley rode a cool race on the Paul Nicholls 7-year-old, and it's no surprise he's kept the ride. Looking at the balance of his form, this drop back in trip should not be a concern, with the long straight expected to suit.

This has cut right up, with 4 of the runners making their seasonal and chasing debuts. This stiff track is a difficult course for chasing debutants, so the value lies with Alastair Ralph's experienced front-runner, for whom the drop in trip is a huge bonus.

Clive Cox's juvenile did us a big favor when winning the Goffs Half-Million at York's Ebor meeting and possibly surpassed that run when caught late on in Doncaster's Weatherbys Scientific 300k at the Ebor meeting. That showed soft ground holds no fears for the 2yo and this drop back to 6f is a big plus.

I'm happy to put a line through Pogson's mare's last run at Uttoxeter, after she got hampered at the start, which caused her to get lit up, giving her no chance in the race. There's no doubt that she's a well-handicapped 6yo and ran a promising race here in June on her first start for new connections.

Gordon Elliott likes to have a few entries in these regional Nationals, and he has four runners here. Although confidence is tempered by the poor form of the yard, bearing that in mind, I normally would not get involved. But the 8yo mare ran such a good race in the Galway Plate, I have to be on at a double-figure price, with the drying ground in her favor.

Eric McNamara's 5yo looks rock solid each-way. Since winning his maiden at Tipperary in May, for which he copped a 6lb rise, he's run a couple of excellent races in the two handicaps he's contested. The track, trip, and ground should all suit, and barring accidents, should be involved in the finish.
