This is even more competitive than the first division and will throw up plenty of future winners. Harzand could take the beating, but one who could surprise is Jackomy for Neil Mulholland. He has a lovely National Hunt pedigree with Deep Run and Oscar in the bloodline. In his only Irish point run, he was clear at the last when falling, and the race looks to have worked out quite well. He could surprise at big odds.

If Tullyhill comes back to his best after some disappointing runs at the back end of last season, he could take some beating. But Jacobs Ladder has always promised to be a better chaser than hurdler. His hurdles form was very solid anyway, and Gordon Elliott usually hits peak form at this time of year just before the upcoming Down Royal meeting.

This is an absolute cracker of a novice hurdle with two of the most exciting recent bumper winners up against each other, plus a very expensive Gigginstown horse who is also very useful. I just favor Gameball over the Emmett Mullins-trained horse. He is impeccably bred for the national hunt game and did us a favor when winning first time out for his then-trainer Andrew Slattery. Taponthego was beaten by Fleur In The Park last October but that was his first ever run under rules and he has improved a lot since then. He ran a cracking fourth in the Martin Pipe Hurdle at the Festival, a race which has thrown up numerous top class chasers including Galopin Des Champs. Being with Henry De Bromhead is a massive plus as he always has his novice chasers well schooled, and looking back at that Cheltenham hurdle race he looked like he had probably already been schooled over fences the way he jumped there.
