BEARLY BLUE is a nice-looking Kodi Bear filly out of a speed-based mare. Kodi Bear has sired seven first-time-out runners over this course and distance in the last five years, and two of those were winners. Richard Hughes has had a near 30% strike rate in the last fortnight, and his two-year-olds are in good shape too. The jockey and trainer have been in good form, and Richard Hughes's runners over the trip in 2026 have been profitable to follow.

I really, really like the chances here of ETERNAL SOLICE. The pedigree is definitely there to be successful, and her return run was a significant upgrade on her debut performance. That gives me a sign that she could well gain the winning thread here at decent odds, especially based on previous winners' stats.

I'd only have a small bet on this race. My selection, FURTHUR, is based on the stats of previous winners. This horse has a good draw, and having not had the rub of the green in the Melbourne Cup, I think he could get compensated for that in this race. Decent odds for a small each-way bet.

I really like the chances of ITEM in this contest, and I think the fact he's unbeaten and lightly raced will play in his favour. He looks to be well drawn, looking at historical data, so given the form his team are in, I'm expecting a big run from him today.
