Having dropped down the handicap, I reckoned Gerard Mentor could be returning to form when finishing 5¾ lengths 4th of 9, 3 outings, back in May this year and although having failed to build on that run in 2 subsequent outings, he has dropped a further 7lbs down the handicap to a mark 10lbs below his last winning mark (Nov. 2022), so he could be worth sticking with today with an EW bet at odds of 9.00 and 4 places on offer

A 2 times hurdles winner from 9 outings, looks a winner in the waiting despite having failed to finish in his last 2 runs. After 3 poor runs he returned in April this year, after a 3 months break, with a much improved run when looking to be in with good chance of recording his 3rd hurdles win only to run out at 2 out and continued in good form next time out, 55 days ago, when, once again, going well only to fall at the last. Running today off the same mark as his last 2 outings (4lbs higher than last win in Aug. 2022), he looks a decent price at 8.50 to get back to winning ways (and definitely worth backing on the exchange for a first 4 finish)

Ludogrets made it through to the group stages of European competition in the last 2 seasons (Europa league & Europa Conference League) while losing only 4 of the 17 home games they played, W12 D1 L4 F33 A12 and although I am tempted to back the home side on the AH with -1.5 goals, I think I will play safe and just go for the straight win at odds of 1.30

Neither of these teams have made it beyond the qualifying rounds of European competition and it could be a close game with maybe the away team, Slask Wroclaw expected to come out on top as coming from a country (Poland) who are ranked 19 places above Latvia in the UEFA coefficient rankings, but, I think that maybe the home side could prove to be tough opposition today as they come into this game on the back of a home record of W5 D3 L2 from the last 3 seasons of European football and have also lost only 3 of all 17 home games since their European debut in 2018/19, so in what could be a close game I think I could be in with a decent chance of making a profit from backing Riga at 1.90 with +0 goals or at worst a return of stake of the game ends in a draw

Langholm record his first win in 2 years in his penultimate run when finishing 2½ lengths ahead of an 8 runner field in a 7f, Class 5, handicap (GS) and I think we can safely ignore his last outing when finishing 5½ lengths behind the winner (over C&D, Sft) as he lost any chance when rearing at the start, so returning to Catterick on what may be more suitable ground (GF), I reckon if having a trouble free run today he should be in the mix, despite running off a mark 6lbs above his last win, and could be worth a small EW bet

Mutanaaseq won this race last year off a mark of 58 and also took another 2 C&D wins in August & September off marks of 63 & 67 respectively, so although not having shown the best of form this year he runs today off a mark of 59 and after his recent run over C&D 14 days ago in which he finished 4¼ lengths 4th of 12 I think this is a runner that is definitely worth an interest now as his handicap mark continues to drop

Struga have only been playing in European competition since 2020/21, with their 12 games to date resulting in W3 D2 L7 and in their first 2 games this season in the CL qualifying 1st round, they were lost both legs to scores of 1-2 & 2-4, so, I reckon you have to give a chance to the more experienced Pyunik side to at least come away with a draw Pyunik have been competing in Europe since the late 90’s and in the last 2 seasons they played 12 games of which they won 6 (W6 D0 L6) and although only 2 of the wins came from their 6 away games, they were eliminated from the CL this season after losing to only a 1-0 aggregate score from the 2 legs, so, I reckon it could pay to go for a bet on Pyunik at 1.82 with +0.25 goals

I think this game is more about what goal margin will the home side win by than will they win the game. I have gone for a bet on Sir Tivo because I think he could outrun his current odds of 29.0, but whether he could match the form of the current favourite I am not so certain. Matterhorn won 2 of his 8 hurdles outings, 1 of which was his first run of 2024 and he continued in similar form when switching to chasing, going on to when his first 3 chase runs, the latest coming 19 days ago when beating a field of 5 by 12 lengths and running off a mark 4lbs higher than his opening chase mark. He runs off a 5lbs higher mark today, but the style in which he has won his first 3 chase outings suggest there could be more to come and he loos a worthy favourite at 2.62

Put in a decent effort on his handicap debut in October last year (4½ lengths 4th of 11 in Class 4, 6f) and although not showing much progress in 3 subsequent runs, he made some headway in the final furlong in his latest run, 40 days ago, to finish 5¾ lengths 6th of 11 in a Class 6, 7f, handicap. At odds of 11.00 I’ll chance a bet on Risk And Roll showing improved form on returning to hurdling and dropping down in grade for only his 2nd run in a Class 4 handicap Wasn’t beaten far in a Class 2 handicap chase in March this year and we can maybe ignore his latest run in May when finishing 33 lengths behind the winner in a Class 3 hcp chase, so back over hurdles today having usually been running in Class 2 & 3 handicaps, he could benefit from dropping down to a Class 4 hurdle for the first time since 2018 and having dropped to a mark only 2lbs higher than his last hurdles win in January 2022

After a 5¾ lengths 3rd of 11th on her handicap debut (C3, 1m7½f, Sft) I thought it could be worth keeping an eye on this runner. She didn’t do too well in next 2 hurdles runs, Pulled Up in Feb. & beaten 23 lengths 11th of 12 in April (eased down at finish after weakening quickly), but she took a step in the right direction next time out, 6 weeks ago, with an 8 lengths 3rd of 11 (C4, 2m, GF) when starting 5/2 fav. Eased 1lb in the handicap after last hurdles run (5lbs below opening mark) and coming here fresh from a run on the Flat 15 days ago, today looks a good chance to take her first handicap win

Switched to chasing towards the back end of last year and has shown recent improvement with 3 runner up finishes in his last 3 outings (beaten only, nk, 1L & 1L), with a subsequent 3lbs rise in the handicap after his last run putting him on a mark 7lbs higher than the first of his run of runner up finishes. It shouldn’t be long before he takes his first chase win and at odds of 8.00 is definitely worth backing for a first 5 finish (can be backed for finish in first 4 @ 3.9 on exchange)

Both of these teams have failed to score in only 2 of their last 10 games HJK scored a total of 17 in last 10 games Haka scored a total of 18 in last 10 games Both have also conceded on average over 1 goal per game : HJK 1.1/game & Haka 1.4/game going off the goals scored by each team I was tempted to go for over 2.5 goals in this game at 1.60, but with both having conceded on average fewer than 1.5 goals/game I reckon there could be more chance of BTTS coming in at the slightly bigger odds of 1.67

Has dropped 5lbs in the weights after 4 unplaced runs in 2024 (PU/4/4/4) the latest when finishing 15½ lengths 4th of 10 over today’s C&D, which was his 4th run at Cartmel (all over today’s distance) that resulted in 1/2/3/4. He has recorded 2 wins and 2 runner up finishes from 13 chase runs, so back at Cartmel today and running off an unchanged mark (1lb higher than his last winning mark), I reckon he has to be worth a minimum bet at odds of 5.00

I fancy the chances of the 2 at the bottom of the weights and I could end up backing both, but for now I think I will just get on Happy Boy at the current odds of 11.00 Happy Boy won 3 outings back on his handicap debut in April this year, beating a field of 10 by 8 lengths over 2m (Gd) and followed up with decent efforts in his 2 runs since (runner up in latest), ran over 2m & 2m1½f and running off marks 10lbs & 9lbs higher than his hurdles win, but with a claimer taking 5lbs off his back. 5lbs claimer retains the ride today and has been raised another 4lbs in the handicap, but there could be more to come from this runner on stepping up in distance and also having his first run after wind surgery, so with 4 places on offer it could pay to go for an EW bet @ 11.00
