Barcelona

Inter come into this game having won only 1 of their last 4 league games, with the last 2 ending in losses in which they failed to score a goal which may not be the best form to be in when travelling to face a Barcelona team who have won 12 of their last 13 league games Inter’s only hope of making progress in this competition could be if they can sit tight at the back and hope to hold out for a draw, but with Barcelona having put 4 past Dortmund in the previous round in their home leg and having scored 46 goals in 17 league home games this season, I think Inter could end doing well if they can limit the home side to only 2 goals

A 4-0 win for Birmingham in their latest game outs them on a run of 8 games in which they scored 2 or more goals in 6 of the game while also conceding in 5 of the games, resulting in 21 scored and 6 conceded Blackpool’s last 10 games have resulted in both teams scoring in 7 of them and 8 ending with 3 or more goals scored So with no pressure on Blackpool to get a result and Birmingham just continuing to knock in the goals, I could see this game easily ending with 3 or more goals and possibly even 4 or more, so my money has to be on the goals markets in this games

Having his first run in 5 months, 10 days ago, he put in one of his better efforts when keeping on in the final furlong to finish 7¾ lengths 3rd of 10 over 1m3f, so could be worth chancing with an EW bet at 17.00 on stepping up to 1m4 today

Casa Pia may have won only 1 of their last 7 games, W1 D2 L4, but I reckon their home record puts them in the driving seat today as after losing their first 2 home games of the season, they went on to lose only 2 of their next 11 home games (winning 7 of them), with the 2 defeats coming against the current 2nd and 4th placed teams. Estoril come into this game with an away record of W4 D5 L6 F20 A27 and although I wouldn’t put off anyone backing them to hold out for a draw, I think the fact that they have conceded 27 goals in 15 away games has swayed me into thinking that Casa Pia could maybe do enough to take their 8th home win of the season at odds that are looking slightly on the large side at 2.40

Rochdale’s win in their last game ensured they finish in a play-off position, so the pressure is off to win today and it is maybe more important to avoid injuries in preparation for the play-offs, so although I think this could give the advantage to Solihull, I think that as they have a poor home record of W2 D2 L8 against the teams above them in the league I think I will avoid backing them to take the win but instead go of a bet on over 2.50 goals at the decent odds of 2.20 in what could be a more open game than if either side needed to to take points from this game

With a record of W1 D1 L5 F8 A13 from Spurs in their last 7 games, I don’t hold out much hope for them today when they travel to face a Liverpool side who just need to avoid a defeat to ensure they finish in top spot. It is easy to get carried away and think that Liverpool could turn it on today for the home supporters and come away with a 2 or 3 goal margin win and that it could pay to back them on the AH (maybe -2 goals), on the other hand Spurs could be determined to try and spoil their party and make it a difficult game for the home side, so as I reckon Liverpool should eventually get the upper hand in this game and take the 3pts, I think I’ll not risk my money on the chance Liverpool take an easy win and instead I will go for an increased stake on the short match odds of 1.30 for the home win

14:00 Fiorentina v Empoli

Fiorentina

Empoli’s run without a win stretches back to early December, W0 D6 L12, in which they failed to score in the 7 of their last 10 games, whereas, Fiorentina have a last 4 home games record of W3 D1 L0 in which they kept clean sheets in 3 of the games, so I’ll take the odds of 1.91 on them adding another home win today to add to the 10 they have won this season
14:00 Inter Milan v Roma

Inter Milan

Roma are on a run of 16 games without a loss, W11 D5 L0, but their results against the top 5 teams are less impressive, W0 D4 L4, So with Inter sitting top of the league with a record of W21 D8 L4, of which their home games resulted in W12 D3 L1, I reckon Inter who are on a run of 6 consecutive home wins (aggregate score of 14-6) should be capable of adding another home win today
13:30 Ajax v Sparta Rotterdam

Ajax

Sparta are on an unbeaten run of 6 games, W4 D2 L1, but it’s a different story whenyou look at their results against teams at the top of the league with their record against the top 7 standing at W1 D2 L7 in which they conceded 2 or more goals in 6 of the 10 games, so I reckon it should be business as usual for Ajax today and they should add another home win to the 12 (from 14 games) they have recorded to date this season

Hamburg come into this game as the team having the league’s best home record, W7 D7 L1 F37 A17, and could be worth backing to win at 1.47, but for me I think I will go for the similar odds of 1.50 for both teams to score as their opponents today, Karlsruher, have failed to score in only 2 of their 15 away games this season while scoring a total of 28 goals and they could be good for a goal if they lose today or looking at their results against the top 6 teams (W4 D4 L2), a 1-1 draw would be no surprise

Brighton’s results may not have been the best of late with only 2pts from their last 5 games, W0 D2 L3 F7 A13, but they still managed to score in 4 of the 5 games while scoring 2 or more goals in 3 of them, so, if continuing in the same goal scoring form this could give them an advantage over West Ham who are on a run of 6 games without a win, W0 D3 L3 F5 A8, and have failed to score more than 1 goal/game in 11 of their last 12 games. Therefore, I reckon not only are Brighton worth backing at 1.70 to take the home win, it could also pay to also have a small bet on them on the AH with -1 goal at odds of 2.3 or higher

Derby have had a mixed bag of results recently in regards to the total number of goals scored with 4 of their last 9 games having ended with 3 or more scored while only 3 ended with fewer than 2 goals scored, so with a total of 22 scored over the 9 games and with 3 of the games having ended with 4 or more goals scored, I think this game could end with more goals than the betting in the goals markets would suggest, despite both teams possibly taking a cautious approach as they are both in desperate need of points to avoid the drop. Hull’s recent games have not been high scoring with only a total of 9 goals scored in their last 6 games, but with their 10 home games against teams in the bottom half of the league having resulted in 9 of them ending with 2 or more goals scored, of which 5 ended with 3 or more scored, then I think taking account of Derby’s recent goal stats, it has to be worth chancing a bet on over 2.5 goals at the big odds of 2.62

Although all but relegated at this stage of the season, Ipswich have no option but to go for the win in this game which could possibly lead to them suffer a heavy defeat here as Newcastle push to finish in a CL qualifying position. Ipswich have conceded 71 goals in their 33 games to date (ave. 2.1/game), with 30 of those goals conceded in the 9 games played against the current top 5 teams (ave. 3.33/game) including a 4-0 defeat to Newcastle Newcastle have won 12 of 13 games played against teams below 14th in the league, scoring 2 or more goals in 10 of the 13 games and having scored a total of 31 goals and conceding only 7 in the 13 games, therefore, I think they should be more than capable of taking a win by at least a 2 goal margin with a good chance of a much larger margin win, so odds of 2.02 for -2.25 goals on the AH have to be worth an interest

Stepping back up in distance for today’s run and running off an unchanged mark I reckon he could be capable of throwing down a challenge to the 2.38 fav., Coco Mademoiselle, and looks worthy of an EW bet at 6.00

3 of his 5 wins have come over today’s distance (2 chase, 1 hurdles) After a couple of poor efforts towards the back end of last year (Nov.) he put in a decent run last time out, 20 days ago, with a 12 lengths 2nd of 5, C4, 2m7½f, Gd, on returning from a 5 months break. He runs off an unchanged mark today and we could see improvement today in his 2nd run after a break running for a yard on a 20% SR in the last 14 days (3 winners and 7 placed from 15 runners)

1 win and 3 runner up finishes from 10 chase outings, with the latest of his runner up finishes coming in his latest run when ½ length 2nd of 10, C4, 4m, GS, running off a mark of 110 He has been raised for his latest runner up finish, but if this was an indication of a return to form and with Brian Hughes taking over in the saddle today, he could be good for a place bet at 13.00, running of a mark 2lbs above his only chase win (C3, 3m1f, Sft)

Atletico Madrid have lost only 1 of 16 home games this season with the only defeat coming against the league leaders Barcelona and the remaining 15 games having resulted in W11 D4 L0, so this looks a game to be on the home win at 1.53 when they face a Ray Vallecano side who have lost 6 of 10 games played against the top 6 teams (W0 D4 L6 ) and who have won only 1 of their last 9 games, W1 D3 L5

FC Twente have a decent record of scoring against teams at the top end of the table, with their 8 games against the top 7 teams having resulted in them scoring in 7 of the games, for a total of 12 goals, so when they are up against a PSV side who have scored 86 goals while conceding 33 (in 29 games) this has to be a game to back on the over 2.5 goals market (and maybe over 3.5)

Osasuna haven’t won many games recently with only 3 wins in their last 11 games, but they did win their last 2 games which were against the current 17th & 20th placed teams, so it could pay to take their odds of 2.5 today to take a home win against a 15th placed Sevilla team who have taken only 1pt from their last 5 games and failed to score more than 1 goal in any of their last 8 games (in which they scored a total of only 6 goals)

Has 4 runner up finishes from 6 chase outings, the latest 26 days ago when beaten 2½ lengths in Class 4 handicap (with the 3rd a further 8 lengths behind), he runs in a similar race today on the same ground and running off a mark only 2lbs higher than all 4 of his runner up finishes he should remain competitive at decent odds of 4.50

He was running well in Spring/summer 2024 with 3 consecutive runner up finishes, but lost his way in his only 3 runs since, Pulled Up in 1 run and finishing towards the rear of the field in the other 2. He returns after a 5 months break running off the same mark as his last win (Nov. 2023) and running at a track where he has a record of 3/4/2/2/2, it would be no surprise to see him involved in the finish today

Best chase run to date was when a 7 lengths runner up in a Class 5 handicap 4 outings back in January this year. He put in a decent effort in his latest run when beaten 5¼ lengths (3rd of 4) in a Class 4 handicap, so back in a Class 5 handicap today and a drop in the handicap putting him an a mark 4lbs lower than his runner up finish, I think he has to be worth a small win bet at 5.00 (+ a decent sized stake on him to place at odds just under even money ??" to 3 places)

Would have little chance if running to the form of his recent runs, but, having dropped back down the handicap to a mark only 3lbs above his last win (over C&D in May 2024) he could outrun his odds of 11.00

Top Target is returning after a 2-year break, so it is anyone’s guess whether he comes here race-ready today. But having already won 1 of 2 Bumpers and a Novice Hurdle (from 4 hurdles runs), he could get competitive if running to ability. He put in a decent effort in his only handicap run when an 8¼ lengths 4th of 11 in a Class 3, 2m4f race when running off a mark of 123 (and started 3/1fav). He runs off a mark of 115 today, so at odds of 19.00, I’ll chance that he can run to somewhere near his capability, which will, hopefully, see him do enough to at least get involved in the finish.

Copper knight is getting on in years (11y.o) but was still running well last year in higher grades (Class 2 & 3), recording 1 win in a Class 3 handicap. He has dropped to a career low mark of 73 for today’s run and could be worth an EW bet at odds of 26.00 on dropping down to a Class 4 hcp for his return after an absence of 6 months
