Beaten only by a neck by one of today’s fancied runners (Aworkinprogress) in his penultimate run. Although he failed to finish in his latest run 22 days ago when starting joint favourite, he has excuses for that performance (kicked at the start, reported to be “never travelling” and had lost a shoe). He has won 2 of 8 chase runs, the latest coming in January 2025 for today’s jockey. If he can put his latest poor effort behind him, he could outrun his current odds of 23.00 and is worth a minimum each-way bet with 5 places on offer.

A run of only 3 losses in 10 games sees Swansea sit only 3 places below and 3 points behind their opponents, Birmingham, with 2 of the 3 losses coming in games against the current top 2 team, so it may not be beyond Sheffield to take something from this game Birmingham’s quest for promotion has taken a knock after suffering 3 losses in their last 4 games and although they have proved to be a difficult team to beat at home having lost only 2 of 18 home games, they are on a 50% win rate in their home games, so, with Sheffield in decent form I reckon it could pay to back Sheffield on the AH with +0.25 goals at 1.92

Although Bournemouth have lost only 1 of 15 games played against teams in the bottom half of the league, they dropped points in 9 of the 15 games, W6 D8 L1 (of which the 7 played away resulted in W2 D4 L1), and they have also been held to a draw in 5 of the current 9 game unbeaten run they are on. So despite Burnley sitting 2nd bottom from the league, they have shown improved form since the turn of the year having taken points from 5 of their 10 games in 2026 and could have enough fight in them to take something from this game against a Bournemouth side who have dropped points in 20 of 29 games this season, therefore, I’m thinking there could be a profit to be made if backing Burnley on the AH with +0.5 goals

15:00 Exeter v Cardiff

Cardiff

Exeter are on a run of 10 games without a win and although 6 of the games ended in draws, only 2 of the games ended with them having scored more than 1 goal and I think this poor scoring record (scored only a total of 9 goals in the 10 games) could give the advantage to Cardiff Cardiff have won only 1 of their last 4 games, W1 D1 L2 F7 A8, so although the wins dried up the goals didn’t and if continuing in the same goal scoring form today I reckon they are good value at 1.80 to take their 9th away win of the season
15:00 Millwall v Blackburn

Millwall

3rd placed Millwall have a decent home record of W11 D2 L1 F26 A9 against teams outside of the top 6, with 8 of the games having ended with a clean sheet for Millwall. Blackburn (20th) are only 1pt above the relegation zone and come into this game having won only 3 of 14 games played in 2026 and despite these wins having come in their last 8 games, W3 D2 L4 F8 A10 I cannot see them taking anything from this game with Millwall having won their last 4 games, with an aggregate score of 9-1
15:00 Norwich v Preston

Norwich

Not only have Norwich been a difficult team to beat since the turn of the year, having lost only 3 of 12 games in 2026, but having won 9 of the 12 games I reckon this has to be a banker home win when they face a Preston side who have seen their form heading in the opposite direction with only 1 win in their last 11 games, with 7 of the games ending in defeat and 6 ending with them having failed to score a goal
15:00 Wigan v Bradford

Bradford

Although sitting 4th in the league, Bradford don’t have the best of away records, W5 D5 L8 F19 A26, but, having won 6 of their last 9 games and Wigan on a record of W1 D5 L11 from games against the current top 10, I reckon Bradford’s odds of 2.38 are just big enough to risk a minimum bet on a Bradford away win

It’s difficult to go against Coventry, considering the are top of the league having won 14 of their 18 home games this season and are on a run of 6 consecutive wins with an aggregate score of 14-3, but Southampton have moved to within 3pts of a top 6 finish with their current run of 9 games without a loss, W6 D3 L0 F19 A7 and have taken points from 5 of 9 games played against the current top 6 teams (including a 1-1 draw with Coventry earlier this season), so although it may be pushing my luck by backing the away win (at odds of 3.90), I reckon I should get a good run for my money by backing Southampton on the AH with +0.5 goals @ 2.02

Although Middlesbrough lost 1-0 in their midweek game with 17th placed Charlton, the stats suggest it may not have been because of a poor performance as Boro came away from the game with an xG of 2.30 having had 34 shots at goal of which 7 were on target, whereas Charlton scored the only goal in the game from their 2 shots on target. So with today’s opponents Bristol on a run of 5 losses in their last 8 games, W2 D1 L5 F8 A17, and only 3 wins in their last 12 games, I reckon we will see Middlesbrough bounce back with a comfortable home win, therefore, my money will be on them on the AH with -1.25 goals @ 1.90

Oxford are the in form team of those at the foot of the table having won their last 3 games, with an aggregate score of 6-2, but their opponents today, Charlton who sit only 5 places above them, have not been doing too bad themselves having lost only 2 of their last 9 games, W4 D3 L2 F8 A5 (beat 2nd placed Middlesbrough midweek), and the fact that they kept clean sheets in 5 of the 9 games while conceding only a total of 5 goals makes me think that they could do enough to day to avoid defeat and could be worth an interest on the AH with +0.25 goals @ 2.00

Swansea may have failed to score in 7 of 18 away games, but in their last 14 games they failed to score in only 2 of the games (with the 7 played away resulting in them scoring in 5 of the games, for a total of 7 goals), so I reckon there has to be a good chance of them scoring against a Wrexham side who have conceded in 8 of their last 10 games. So with Wrexham having failed to score in only 1 of 19 home games and also only 1 of their last 16 games, this game could be overpriced @ 1.83 for both teams to score and has to be a bet for me at a slightly larger stake than usual.

20:00 Coventry v Preston

Coventry

Preston have been slipping down the league having taken only 3 wins from their 12 league games in 2026 and having lost 6 of their last 10 games in which they failed to score in 5 of the games, I can only see today’s game ending in another defeat as they come up against an in form Coventry side who sit top of the league who have won 22 of their 36 games. Coventry come into this game on a run of 5 consecutive wins in which they scored 2 or more goals in each of the 5 games, so they could be on for a comfortable home win against a Preston side who have scored only 6 in their last 10 games ans I reckon this ias another of tonight’s bets that is worth backing for a straight win at 1.48 with a smaller bet on the AH (-1 goal @ 1.75)
19:45 AFC Wimbledon v Blackpool

AFC Wimbledon

Wimbledon have been in decent form of late, losing only 1 of their last 7 games, W4 D2 L1, and winning their last 3 home games with an aggregate score of 7-3, so 2.25 looks a decent price to take on them taking another home win when playing a Blackpool side who have won only 2 of 12 games played in 2026, W2 D3 L7, and have taken only 2pts from their last 6 away games, W0 D2 L4 F6 A16
19:45 Birmingham v QPR

Birmingham

50 WIN

@-142

Birmingham have lost only 2 of 17 home games this season, W8 D7 L2, so although currently on a run of 3 consecutive defeats, they are facing a QPR side who have won only 2 of their last 10 games, W2 D3 L5 F8 A19, while failing to score in 6 of the 10 games, and lost their last 3 games to an aggregate score of 11-0 So of these 2 teams who are both trying to avoid 4 consecutive losses, my money would have to be on Birmingham @ 1.70
19:45 Middlesbrough v Charlton

Middlesbrough

18th placed Charlton have picked up points in 6 of their last 10 games, but with having scored only 8 goals in those 10 games I think they could struggle to take anything from today’s game against a 2nd placed Middlesbrough side who have lost only 1 of 20 games played against teams in the bottom half of the league, W12 D7 L1, and come into this game on a last 10 match record of W7 D2 L1 F21 A10. So with this looking like a home banker, this looks a game to be putting a large stake on the home win at 1.40 with also a smaller stake on Middlesbrough on the AH with -1 goal @ 1.60 to try and nick an extra few quid at larger odds
19:45 Port Vale v Bradford

Bradford

Port Vale sit bottom of the league with only 6 wins from 32 games and although they have been picking up points in recent games, they come into this game with a poor record of W0 D2 L6 F1 A16 from their games against the current top 7 teams. Although 4th placed Bradford have lost their last 5 away games, they have a record of W7 D2 L2 against the current bottom 7 teams (including a 1-0 win over today’s opponents), so I think Bradford should be capable of putting an end to their away losing run with a win at the decent odds of 2.30 when facing a team who struggle to score & win against teams at the top end of the table

He runs today off the same mark as his last hurdles run and coming here fit from 2 outings on the Flat (resulting in a win & runner up finish) his odds of 5.50 looks too big to miss (as do his place odds for a first 3 finish, 2.10, on the exchange)

Was giving King Rasko Grey 8lbs when finishing only 2¾ lengths behind in 2nd in his penultimate run and continued on his upwards curve to win next time out, 45 days ago, when comfortably beating a field of 16. I’m not thinking an 8lbs pull in the weights will see Shuttle Diplomacy turning the tables on King Rasko Grey, but if he is still improving he could be nearer to the market leaders than the official ratings suggest, so with a step up in distance and having placed in the Champion Bumper on GS last year I think he has to be worth a small EW bet at current odds of 34.0

19:45 Aldershot v Carlisle

Yes (BTTS)

Both Teams to Score

Although Aldershot have lost all 7 games played against the top 5 teams and have lost all 8 away games against the top 8 teams, they have been on a good run of form (prior to losing their last 2 games) and come into this game on a run of 11 games in which they scored in 10 of the games, so could be good for a goal or 2 against 2nd placed Carlisle who have conceded in 9 of their last 10 games. Carlisle have been keeping up their push for promotion with a run of only 3 losses in their last 13 games in which they failed to score in only 2 of the 13 games So, whether the home side bounces back to form with a win or Carlisle takes another 3pts in their quest for promotion, I reckon there has to be a good chance of both teams scoring tonight (and maybe 3 or 4 goals in this this game)

19:45 Barrow v Bristol Rovers

Yes (BTTS)

Both Teams to Score

I was considering backing Bristol Rovers on the AH with +0 goals @ 1.80, but after looking through the goals stats I reckon I’ll have more chance of a return by backing both teams to score, also @ 1.80. The home side Barrow have lost 9 of their last 11 games, but, they still managed to score in 8 of the 11, so it may not be beyond them to score tonight against a Bristol side who conceded in each of their last 6 games and have kept only 2 clean sheets in 17 away games this season. Bristol have shown good goalscoring form of late, having scored in 7 of their last 8 games (for a total of 14 goals), so I reckon we could see a goal or 2 from them against a Barrow side who have conceded 2 or more goals in 7 of their last 11 games (conceding a total of 20 in the 11 games)
19:45 Exeter v Lincoln City

Lincoln City

Lincoln are on an unbeaten run of 18 games, W14 D4 L0 F43 A13. So, although Exeter have lost only 3 of their last 9 games, W0 D6 L3, the fact that they could not do enough to take a win in those 9 games suggests to me that they could even struggle to hold out for a draw against a Lincoln team who are on the top of their form and come into this game on the back of 4 consecutive wins, with an aggregate score of 12-0.

With only 1 defeat in their last 10 games and only 2 in their last 16, I reckon reading should be good to take something from tonight’s game against a Mansfield side who are on a run of 9 games without a win, W0 D6 L3, in which they failed to score in 5 of the games. Also, Reading have taken points from 14 of 18 games played against teams in the bottom half of the league and I think there is a profit to be made from covering the draw/away win with a bet on them with +0.25 goals on the AH at odds of 1.95

11th placed Lazio have won only 1 of 13 games played against teams above them in the league, W1 D4 L8 F5 A18, while failing to score in 9 of the games, so having also failed to score in 5 of their last 7 games which resulted in W1 D1 L3 F5 A11, you have got to fancy the chances of any top half team who have been knocking in goals recently, therefore, with today’s opponents, 9th placed Sassuolo, currently on a run of 5 wins in their last 6 games, W5 D1 L0 F8 A11, in which they scored 2 or more goals in 4 of the games and having an away record of W5 D2 L1 against teams outside of the top 6, their odds of 3.50 to take an away win have got to be worth a small bet (or with Lazio remaining unbeaten at home against teams below 7th I reckon I could get a good run for my money of backing Sassuolo on the AH with +0.25 goals @ 1.95 which would give a return for the draw or away win)

I put this runner in my notebook in December last year (3 outings back) when 4½ lengths 5th of 6 in a Class 4, 2m½f handicap, running off a mark of 109 at Market Rasen, but he has failed to deliver in 2 outings since, finishing well beaten (99L +) in 2 similar handicaps, resulting in him running today off a mark of 99. He runs off a mark today 6lb lower than his last win (April 2025), with his usual 3lbs claimer in the saddle, and dropping down in grade to a Class 5 handicap, so although having put in poor efforts in his last 2 outings I think he has to be worth an EW chance at 29.00 having slipped down the handicap and having won this race last year off a 1lb higher mark
