He is improving with every run recently, and this is a significantly lighter race than his last outing when he ran with credit at Lingfield. On that occasion, he was badly ridden around the top bend when Greatrex allowed him to be pushed too wide by a horse inside him. He then ran on well to try to make up the distance in the straight. Billy has a 24% strike rate here over this trip with 4 wins from 11 rides in this class, and is well drawn in 3. I would hope that he can get him home for a deserved win.

I would favour this move to a more galloping track, as this horse was not suited to Plumpton despite showing plenty of promise. Harry Skelton has a 42% strike rate in hurdle races over this type at Exeter across the last five years. This race would lend itself to him being held up until turning in and the galloping attritional finish up the straight.

He ran well when returning from a short break over fences last month and is now pitched back into a hurdles race over a course and distance where he has won previously. This is the weakest handicap hurdle he has been in and the lowest mark that he has carried. While the yard is not in good form, the trainer and jockey do okay here over this course and discipline. At the price, I cannot let him go unbacked.

Just a small play here as Venetia has a 21% strike rate with horses having their first run after a wind operation over the last five years, and there is not much to beat here for a horse that kept more exalted company when hurdling in France. They are returning from a year out, and jockey and trainer have no positive form at Exeter, but this is the type of scenario where I would kick myself for letting it go unbacked and then seeing it come in. Small play.

This is a competitive maiden with the top four in the market all capable of winning it, but Combs has mixed in the best company and has plenty in his favour tomorrow. Lto 7 lb claimer Kevin Healy had him too far forward and involved with Proactif too early in the contest to be able to last home. But on the clock and factoring in the varying ground conditions, it was a more impressive time performance than any of the rivals here. Jack has a 48% strike rate over this trip here from the last five years and Gordon 31%. These are too big numbers to ignore, and at the current prices I will have a small win play.

Almost inconceivable that he did not win here LTO, and he was very keen over the first half of that race. I think the inside draw and the readily available cover will be useful. Hollie is decent here over this trip with a strike rate of 24% over the last five years, and will have more of a plan with him today. He will need the breaks on the inside, but will ultimately have to cover less distance than last time to be in with a shout, for all that this is a Classified race with the inconsistencies that that brings.

She was quite keen on debut for the first half of her bumper and finished in a way that suggested a move up in trip would be necessary and her mother was an above-average hurdler over today's trip and further. The trainer has a 40% strike rate in non-handicap hurdle races over this type of trip here spanning the last five years and Nico has a near identical record. As she also has the 7 lb mares' allowance from the favourite and most of the field, I think there is enough here to give her a spin.

I think favouritism is a bit strong, but this horse has a chance today. Fitter than most, having already had a run at Dundalk a few weeks ago, he should handle the ground and is nicely handicapped even before the jockey's claim is factored in. He was gently ridden to have broken and travelled well and I would hope for a more sustained effort today. The true price would be 8s or so.

Trainer and jockey have a compelling record here for hurdle races over this trip, winning 30% and 50% of those they have contested over the last five years. I don't think Blue Marvel relished the heavy ground LTO at Huntingdon and made the running at a much faster pace than average for the most part. He also struggled at times going right-handed and was hampered by the runner-up more than once over the last half mile. The Ellis horse won LTO in a special riders' race and, due to the conditions, avoided the novice penalty he should have carried, and is beatable.

I will also be backing Broadway Ted in this, but Bowen's weak record at the Festival leads me to favour this horse as my selection here. This is competitive and far more than the rest of the card. The selection caught the eye with a strong return to action under a new trainer at Hereford LTO in a race where the form has since been well franked. I never find it prudent to put myself in the hands of Robbie Dunne, and she will need to drift out to 5s or more to force a bet from me. There are enough here with good connections to get that price out, and none some from better form coming into this. A slight niggle that she might want the ground softer.

His best form has been on better ground, which he didn't have for a very creditable first run back at Hereford. The form from that race is not strong but nor is the competition here. Rap Soul bids for the hat-trick here but is up another 7 lbs and going further than he has before when chasing (if indeed he is declared, having only run 48 hours ago). As such, I prefer the merits of Cloudy Wednesday who is a chase winner here, likes this quick turnaround between races, gets on well with Lewis Stones who has ridden all five of his wins, and does get this trip on good ground. A second-season chaser. Whilst most of the principals in the market are in their first chasing campaign, unlike many tomorrow this horse is proven over 3 miles and has beaten Affordale Fury this season. He ran with great credit against seasoned opposition at Down Royal in November. He made the running that day, and I doubt Danny will be so bullish tomorrow, probably favouring the more cautious tactics Jack employed over an inadequate trip at the DRF LTO. The stable star leads the market, with plenty of others staking a claim, but this lad's current price surprises me and is worth a spin.

This is, as ever, an incredibly difficult race to fathom, and I could conceivably put up half a dozen. In the end you want an EW play here. This horse has a good form line against Winston Junior, who lost by 6 lengths to Minella Student at Cheltenham when receiving 7 lb from them, while Ammes lost by half a length to them at Wetherby off level weights. Obviously natural improvement can dilute some of that, but it is compelling enough for me.

I think she is the safest play of the top 3 in the market. The other two are going to be asked to run and jump quicker and without fault more than they have previously, and she and Danny are principally going to be asking those questions. I will be taking insurance on the first 3, or bet EW if that is your thing with Steel Ally the main threat to her being on the podium. The day arrives at last! I have been hugely impressed by this horse this season. A beauty with plenty about him between his ears too. His promise from Boxing Day was rammed home at the DRF despite the poor ride he was given that day. And there lies the quandary, the greatest danger to his chance is the man in the saddle. He has only won one hurdles race here in the last five years, and four in his life from 39 attempts, with one festival hurdles win in the Boodles. He cannot set the horse the near-impossible task that he did at Leopardstown last month and have him too far back.

There should be a non-runner coming here with the Gardner horse who ran yesterday. So, while we all wait for them to bother to do that we can't put our bets on. Alternatively, if they run their horse again they would obviously be worth opposing. Welcheston Warrier has a progressive profile but is unproven at this trip and has a jockey who has recorded only 6 wins in the last 12 months. The selection ran well enough here over this trip in a better race lto, he benefits from the improving Elliott England's 5 lb claim and has every chance here once the market has resettled.

On the clock, this horse has a clear advantage compared to the other two main horses in the market, who like him are all carrying a penalty. I then factor in that McCann is taking off that penalty with his claim. It could be that the other two are better than their previous races have allowed them to show, or that they will be better ridden today. But the times and the prices for the main three lead me here.

She is hugely advantaged in the weights here against the Nicholls trained favourite Bibe Mus. Beaten 3 lengths by them at Aintree in December when getting 7 lb, today she gets 17 lb including Tom's claim. Against that, this is Tom's first hurdles race at Sandown and she likes to be forward, so there is a danger that he will allow her to do too much before that hill up the straight or go too soon.

Looking forward to this race as some of these have won for me already this season. However, plenty of these are paying the debts of success, with their marks now beyond them. Therefore I prefer to look at an unexposed type, and Western Cross on handicap debut fits that bill. The trainer's record with handicap debutants is above average, and whilst Sean's record here over this race type and trip is discouraging, upon a closer look he has done well with what he has ridden, including a double-digit-odds winner. The horse will appreciate today's better ground than the mud he faced last time out at Taunton when he was too free, and is also helped in that regard with a hood today. At the prices he will do for me.

In that race he was drawn wider than today and missed the break a touch, having to come round horses to then share the lead. He got beaten for speed in the straight before rallying and passing some horses who had overtaken him late on. This is competitive fare, but he could not be better weighted or drawn, and money should come for the Loughnane ride and AMO horse moving our price out.
