Absolutely in the dark about whether this 13-year-old will want this type of trip. BUT he has run over these fences 3 times in the past and, importantly, completed on each occasion. I just can't shirk that at the odds. However, caution is needed as he's on the highest mark of his career but comes into this race in good form. Today will be only his 30th race, so he is pretty lightly raced for a horse of this age and could run well.

Nobody wants a winner more over these fences more than David Maxwell does, and he has a great opportunity here. Since moving to the Derham stable, Joker has made the frame on all but one occasion on debut at Newbury. Form has been solid and comes in on the back of a win by 21 lengths.

Sixth behind Galopin Des Champs in the Irish Gold Cup is a solid piece of form in the context of this race, just fading on the run-in. This race looks a little bit easier than what he contested that day with Galopin Des Champs, Fact To File, and Inothewayyourthinking all finishing ahead last time. Crucially, the choice of Paul Townend, who leaves Gaelic Warrior to get on top of Embassy Gardens, is much too big of a price to not warrant respect.

One of the most impressive performances of a British novice hurdler this season, winning a six-runner affair at Kelso in most taking fashion. Most importantly, he jumped very well for a first-time novice and could have improved in that department. He quickened very well and looks set for a good run on his second hurdle start.

Forgiving his first run this season where he didn't jump well at all. The next day he won in impressive fashion against Cheltenham Festival scorer Caldwell Potter. Dodged the festival himself. A step up to 2m4f over fences looks ideal and has the pace to go from the front, which will suit. The good to soft ground is also a positive with 2 wins over hurdles at both the distance and going, with his only defeat upon completion being at last year's festival where the step up to 3m was asking a bit too much.

Carried form in similar races when the headgear was applied last year. Winner at the track and retains the headgear on reappearance. Will be happier on the current ground as the last two starts were on soft (all wins have been on good or better). Drops into a class 3 after trying a class 2 last time (not disgraced on ground softer than ideal).

Not disgraced in two starts in the UK, finishing behind some useful sorts. Listed placed form in France. Stepping up in trip and better ground look a more comfortable fit. Dropping in class after being tried in a pair of Class 3s offers some optimism. The horse's best piece of form came on the forecast good ground in the aforementioned Listed race in France, finishing well ahead of Libeccio, who is himself a 3-time Class 4 winner in the UK.
