I’ve been following horse racing for over 30 years now and although it can be very frustrating at times (most times) but when the betting God’s are on your side it’s great. Although 33/1 shots are fantastic, my idea of value is a winner. I like watching maiden races looking for horses finishing off their races well or being unlucky in running to back next time out also handicappers at favourite tracks, back down to winnable marks with a jockey up who regularly wins for the stable. Oisin Murphy has a great book of rides today and can start off with a winner in the first. The danger looks to come from the Gosden horse but the selection has more experience, won on debut last season then stuck to group races after that, 9/4 looks big.

Aidan O'Brien always brings his horses along slowly and never has them cherry ripe for the start of the season. Monkstown had a run at the Curragh on 29th March when finishing 3rd of 17 beaten just over 5 lengths which was a decent run and I expect the selection to strip fitter and win today.

Today could be very good for J. P. McManus. He's had a good week so far and has horses at the top of the betting for the National that have a great chance. But Jeriko Du Reponet can get the owner off to a flyer. The step up in trip has brought out the best in this horse, only losing to a stablemate at Cheltenham in a 24-runner affair. It should go mighty close today and is an each-way shot to nothing with 5 places.
