That was off a handicap rating of 105, and today he is rated ten pounds lower, with ground not quite so quick also likely to suit.

Five-year-old This Sway is clearly an improver and was very well supported last time off a seven pounds lower handicap mark. That was quite a weak race at Southwell, but this is not much stronger. Cogital ran in a competitive Class 4 over the course and distance, but he is getting on in years now and has been off for 89 days. Dish Of The Day might run better on quicker ground and is probably the chief threat.

Often a front-runner, Spaceport was making a comeback after a year-long break last time and a wind operation. That was a not-bad run, considering, and shows he is still a front-running sort. He chases a much smaller pot tonight, and the trainer drops him down quite radically in trip. He might have the class to pull off the same tactics over a mile. At 20/1, a small interest only with cash-out options.

Beneficiary is usually thereabouts and should also be competitive.

Connections switch him back to hurdles, presumably for a bit of a confidence boost. His jockey can claim seven pounds, and she is in fine form, having ridden into a place in the Challenge Cup at Cheltenham earlier in the month.

He ran in a competitive 7-furlong race last time, bumping into a Mick Appleby improver. With the dead eight lining up, the lightly-raced Too Darn Hot gelding makes some appeal each way at 12s. The Angry Ant has also plummeted down the weights and must surely win eventually?

She was a bit keen over seven furlongs so the absence of the hood is a mystery, but Newmarket-based trainer George Scott knows what he is doing. Shadowfax of Rohan had a good tussle with Marty McFly last time at Catterick, and that one has won since. However, at 4/5 he is not much of a bet. Catchim won his maiden race here first time out when making his racecourse debut, and that win was on good ground over 2½ miles. He also ran well here over fences last November. Assuming he is fit enough, he ought to give the favourite a run for his money. Perhaps worth putting in an Exacta forecast.

At 7/4 Smurfette is too short, albeit she has a sporting chance. Icaque De Lisle's run in the Devon National is probably best ignored when pulled up on bottomless ground. He was fairly well fancied that day. He stays this trip and was in winning form in the race before at Lingfield. Should go better down in class.
