The 3:15 at Carlisle is a Class 5 race for four-year-olds, and this contender could go well at a fair price. After two quick outings, he secured a win on his third start -over this same course and distance back in May- off a mark of 58 under David Allan. He finished strongly that day, and a review of the race confirms it was an encouraging performance. He's held his form well since, notably at Pontefract, where he ran the night before as one of the favourites with a 3lb claimer on board. However, he didn't seem comfortable under pressure that evening, picking up late and finding only one pace. Returning to Carlisle and reunited with David Allan should suit him better. With conditions in his favour and a familiar track, he may well bounce back.

This race features four three-year-olds, with a grand prize for the winner. One contender, positioned at the bottom of the Premier rankings, may not be known for flat racing but has been improving steadily. Warren's stable is in strong form, boasting four winners in the last 14 days with a 25% strike rate. A Premier ground winner last season, he could benefit if the rain arrives. While not flashy, his performance on 5 May showed promise, despite market expectations. He has progressed over an extended mile and continues to refine his form. Gallagher, despite a challenging draw, managed to secure the lead without wasting time, demonstrating resilience. His final stretch was encouraging, suggesting further improvement. I anticipate another aggressive front-running ride, with Premier making his move 50 yards out. Given his recent form, he should be available at an appealing price.

16:25 Irene Carey Memorial Handicap 7-furlong class feature a promising contender. A three-year-old with a mobile profile, he had three runs last season at odds of 14/1, 122/1 and 114/1 -unfancied each time. Ridden by Jack Mitchell, he was gradually introduced through handicaps. After a nine-month break, he reappeared on 15 May at Kempton over this trip on the all-weather track. He was heavily backed as the 6/4 favourite in a 13-runner field and finished impressively, surging inside the final 100 yards. The runner-up has since bolted up, reinforcing the strength of that form. Last summer, he showed strong potential, and significant backing followed on messaging platforms. He now steps up, facing Blue Anthony, who performed well on firmer ground. If the rain arrives, the surface may suit him better. This mark s first attempt at a stronger pace, and with an upgrade, he should be competitive. He has risen to a rating of 7, and as we approach mid-summer, the next three weeks will be crucial.

The IMA Architects Classified Stakes (Class 6) features some very low-rated three-year-olds, with prize money of £3,200. Among them, Richard Hammond's filly, Fregola, looks an interesting contender despite her modest rating of 44 and a winless record from ten starts. She returned this season after six months off and has shown slight improvement, particularly at Redcar, where she caught the eye. Last time out, there was market support for her, backed into 9/2 - her shortest price to date - before finishing fourth. She was held up and found herself trapped in a pocket two furlongs out, yet finished strongly under Tyrese Cameron, leaving the impression she had more to give. While this is a low-level contest, a more galloping track should suit her, bringing stamina into play. With the filly's allowance and a 7lb claim against a weak field, she looks well positioned to challenge. Given the stable's strong form, she should be an attractive price and could take some stopping.

Emily Rebecca looks well placed to strike in the 2:47 apprentice handicap over one mile two furlongs. The Richard Ellen yard is in red-hot form, boasting 12 winners in the last 14 days with a 24% strike rate. This filly has shaped promisingly in her six career starts - one win on the all-weather, two on turf - and appears more than capable off this mark. She made an encouraging start in handicaps back in February, finishing second behind Back of Milk, a tough and consistent performer. After 81 days off, she returned at Brighton, running a strong second behind Hawkesbury Legend, making smooth headway from off the pace. The front-runner winner was heavily backed, so her performance deserves credit. A trip to Chepstow proved unsuitable - one mile four furlongs on softer ground with blinkers didn't suit, and she missed the break. Back over a more suitable trip on a flatter track, conditions favor her today. Still relatively unexposed, she looks primed to go very close.

Khafiz has shown strong recent form, maintaining a competitive rhythm with TFR an EPF among the highest in this field. His expected position (EPF=2, prominent) aligns well with the course profile and the absence of early pace pressure, giving him a natural tactical edge. The pace forecast is "Even", allowing Khafiz to settle just behind the leaders without excessive exertion, which benefits him against late closers like Lastchancezoulon and Capone, who may struggle with traffic and limited pace to finish strongly. Among his rivals, Nutmeg (4/1) race mid-division, limiting late acceleration, while Uniting (15/2) sits in a neutral EPF zone with no clear improvement signs. Capone (13/2) has ability but is hindered by his positioning (EPF = 4), making his finishing burst difficult and Gooloogong (7/2), despite similar odds, adopts a more conservative race pattern, reducing tactical effectiveness. With an ideal setup, strong positioning, and favourable race conditions, Khafiz holds a prime chance to dictate the pace and secure a competitive finish.

Dow & Low Handicap (Class 5, 1m 68y, 4yo+). Several familiar names line up, many struggling to win - including Swift Salian, trained by David Barron. Once a master tactician, Barron now manages a smaller stable but remains effective. Swift Salian has seen his mark drop 9 lbs from 76 to 67, making him well-handicapped. His two runs this season have been promising. First, he finished 4th behind Isari at Musselburgh, needing the run after six months off. He then led boldly at Thirsk, only to be nabbed late by Mole Renan and Super Hit, pulling clear of the rest. Hamilton favours front runners, especially those securing the far rail. Callum Rodriguez takes the reins today, having ridden Swift Salian once before. Despite only one win in the 17 starts, he's hit the frame five times and thrives under ideal conditions. With a stiff mile and soft ground, he should have a strong chance to dictate from the stalls.

The Cupa Slates Handicap is a Class 5 race over 1 mile and 68 yards, exclusively for three-year-olds, carrying £4,187. One contender stands out: A War Eagle, trained by the promising Ed Bethell, a young trainer making a name for himself. His yard has been selective with its runners, yielding 2 wins from 11 in the last 14 days. A War Eagle, a well-bred three-year-old, has shown promise across several outings. He debuted in December on Wolverhampton's all-weather track, running a huge race at 22/1, finishing strongly behind Perfect Life. He then contested a 7-furlong race at Newcastle, where he ran respectably but was caught in a typical Newcastle muddle, finishing a few lengths off the pace. After a 71-day break, he returned for his turf debut at Thirsk, where his connections clearly held him in high regard. He was backed as the 5/2 favourite in a 15-runner field. The race was won convincingly by Montpellier (trained by James Ferguson), but A War Eagle paid the price for early exertions, trying to match strides with the front-running City of Poets, ultimately tiring late on.

The Star Sport Handicap returns over 7 furlongs in Class 6, this time restricted to three-year-olds, with £3,500 awarded to the winner. Call Out looks poised to strike for Jack Moreton, whose new trainer has a small but well-performing string. Several of his runners have been making the frame, including Call Out, who ran an excellent race over this course and distance on 21st May, only narrowly denied by Mr Ubiquitous. Sent off at 12/50, he pressed hard and fought his way to the front. It was an encouraging performance. A repeat of that effort should see him go very close here. The only concern is the short turnaround of six days, but he appears to be finding his form. He has now settled into an appropriate handicap mark and could be open to further improvement after two runs for this yard since arriving.

The Star Sport Handicap is run over a certain furlong and is open to four-year-olds and upwards, carrying £5339. This looks like an ideal opportunity for Uncle Dick to bounce back to winning form under Eve Johnson Houghton, who, after a quiet few weeks, is now back in the groove, having secured two winners recently, including an impressive victory at Ascot last Friday. Uncle Dick is a reliable horse when fully fit. As a seven-year-old, he has contested 49 races with a solid record??"eight wins and 12 places, meaning he has finished in the frame 20 times, an admirable strike rate of nearly 40%. His season has not gone to plan so far, but it seems he simply needed race fitness at a time when the yard was in transition. He has been running against stronger opposition over longer trips, including an attempt at 1m4f on this track last year, where he clearly failed to stay. He is much more suited to the mile and should have no trouble handling a demanding track. Starting the season on a mark of 73, he has gradually edged down.

Groundsman lines up in the Oakmere Homes Supporting Macmillan Grassroots Handicap (Class 5) over 1 mile, with £4,500 to the winner. Trained by Richard Fahey, one of the leading yards in the north, the stable has had a slow start to the season but has produced three winners in the last fortnight, suggesting momentum is building. Groundsman ran four times as a juvenile, showing promise in his first three starts before undergoing a gelding operation. He was well-backed at Chester, delivering an impressive third-place finish on 21st September. He was declared for Doncaster in April, but the ground was too quick, leading connections to wait for softer conditions. Now, with Danny Tudhope booked, and expected good ground at Haydock, he should be primed for a strong seasonal return. His handicap mark of 68 looks manageable, and with conditions finally in his favour, he appears well-placed for success.

Prince Achille from the Jedd O'Keeffe yard lines up in the Betfred Supporting Macmillan' Handicap (Class 5) over 1 mile 2 furlongs. A five-time winner, he has claimed four victories on the all-weather but only one from 18 on turf. He has placed eight times, including a strong second at Beverley on seasonal reappearance under today's jockey, Jack Garritty. His disappointing run at Pontefract next time out explains the generous odds today. There are two key considerations: 1- He may have bounced on his second start back, having run just a fortnight after his strong return. 2- The Pontefract run was messy, as he was trapped on the inside, lacked a clear run, and struggled up the final hill. Despite that, he remains in good form, and the flat, galloping track at Haydock should suit him better. He is fit and well, and with many rivals difficult to make a strong case for, he looks a solid contender.

The 14:35 at Newbury, a one-mile Group 1 Lockinge Stakes, sees Rosallion as the standout contender at around 2/1 in early markets. Richard Hannon's yard is in superb form, with 13 winners in the past fortnight, and this progressive colt has secured five victories from seven career starts. His most revealing performance came at Royal Ascot last June in the St James' Palace Stakes, where, despite a troubled run, he showed great tenacity to win by a neck from Henry Longfellow, with the front two pulling clear of the rest. That race confirmed his class and potential for this season. Newbury should suit him perfectly, offering more time and space than Ascot, and with this familiar jockey aboard, he has a strong chance of outclassing his rivals once again.

An unexposed colt, he finished third in a small-field contest at Newmarket last time out, but struggled to settle in the early stages and faded over a furlong out. The Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Handicap is a Class 3 race over 5 furlongs, restricted to three-year-olds, with a £14,000 prize for the winner. The field consists of second-season sprinters, and race fitness may prove decisive. The Quiet Gent, trained by Ralph Beckett, could have a strong chance, particularly now that Beckett's yard is hitting form, with six winners in the past fortnight. The Quiet Gent was beaten at Ripon on 17th April, sent off at 9/4, though that track's undulations can be tricky for some. He finished second behind Angelic Bugler, a surprise 40/1 winner for Tim Easterby, who subsequently confirmed his form with a solid third at Redcar. Given that Beckett's horses were still finding rhythm at the time, The Quiet Gent's run was no disgrace. Now with race fitness on his side, his opening handicap mark of 85 appears lenient. Russell Ryan has been booked, and a drop back in trip should suit. Expect The Quiet Gent to be finishing fast, ideally finding daylight late on to pick off the leaders.

The Churchill Tyres Handicap is a six-furlong, Class 2 race for four-year-olds, offering over £30,000 to the winner. He started with a rating of 78 in April and, by October, won off 95 under today's jockey, Oisin Murphy, improving 17 lbs over eight starts. Holkham Bay is versatile across different ground conditions, though he performs best on good, fast ground. He won over this course and distance on 15th June in a 20-runner field, benefiting from a 5 lb claim. His rating now stands at 98, but he has the potential to develop into a Listed or Group 3 sprinter. After two runs this season, he should be primed for a strong performance.
