We’ll have to see whether last week was just a blip or a return to his putting issues. The rest of his game looks in great shape, especially off the tee, which hasn’t always been a strength. His performance at Colonial, where he ranked fourth in strokes gained off the tee, was the second time in four starts that he produced excellent driving numbers built on accuracy. He should be heading into the summer with confidence.

Sepp Straka returned to Austria for his home Open on the DP World Tour and delivered a steady, high-quality week from start to finish. Straka was dependable off the tee, using his trademark fade to stay in position, and his iron play was also strong throughout. While he made a fair number of putts, he also left several chances just short, meaning that with a bit more luck on the greens he could easily have been in contention.

He finished 5th and 10th at the Dunhill Links, and also 5th and 10th in Doha, where he even held the Sunday lead. He has come close at Le Golf National too. A former winner of both the Lytham Trophy and St Andrews Links Trophy, he also has two top-10s from four Open Championship appearances, including one at Royal Liverpool, a course he knows well from his amateur days.
