She was below that level on both starts for Ralph Beckett in Listed company, but a return to handicap company could see her become a major threat once again.

Hasn't tasted success for some time, but his latest run was more encouraging than the bare result suggests. He finished fourth over 7f at Doncaster on his first turf outing of the season, making his move earlier than the three who finished ahead of him. With that form subsequently boosted and a 2 lb drop in the weights, he's worthy of respect from stall 1.

Scoring low at Muirfield is rare, but Chris Gotterup has the ability to go low anywhere when his game is clicking. He looks capable of outperforming his odds here. He is volatile, which is an important factor, but he already has four career wins??"two of them this year??"and has risen to world number 11. Even on world ranking alone, he appears to be priced too generously.

At Muirfield Village, he finished seventh last year despite rating his confidence at “7 out of 10,” and was fifth in 2023 even after missing the cut at Colonial. He also ranks seventh in adjusted scoring over the past five years. There may be the odd worrying moment, but he looks capable of going very close again.

Justin Thomas

We’ll have to see whether last week was just a blip or a return to his putting issues. The rest of his game looks in great shape, especially off the tee, which hasn’t always been a strength. His performance at Colonial, where he ranked fourth in strokes gained off the tee, was the second time in four starts that he produced excellent driving numbers built on accuracy. He should be heading into the summer with confidence.

Sepp Straka

Sepp Straka returned to Austria for his home Open on the DP World Tour and delivered a steady, high-quality week from start to finish. Straka was dependable off the tee, using his trademark fade to stay in position, and his iron play was also strong throughout. While he made a fair number of putts, he also left several chances just short, meaning that with a bit more luck on the greens he could easily have been in contention.

He has recorded four top-10 finishes in seven Signature Event starts this year, including one in the most recent event two starts ago. This is among the strongest runs outside of Scottie Scheffler. He is one of the strongest iron players on tour, but his scoring depends heavily on improving his short game. Since the Nedbank event last year, he has recorded four top-six finishes, including a win. All came in tournaments where his putting was above average, highlighting how dangerous he can be when the putter cooperates. More recently, after a slow start in Spain following a long break in Turkey, he bounced back with five solid rounds and finished sixth. With his form trending positively, he looks set up for a strong summer, with upcoming events like the BMW International Open also appearing well suited to his game.

Grant Forrest

He finished 13th here last year despite struggling on the greens, making it an even stronger performance given his poor form at the time. It was his best result up to that point in the season, and he later reinforced his suitability for windy, links-style golf with 22nd at a strong Scottish Open and victory at the Nexo Championship in Aberdeen. In those conditions he thrived, topping the field tee-to-green at that event, echoing similar elite ball-striking displays at The Renaissance a few weeks earlier. He has also consistently performed well at the Dunhill Links, finishing 11th last year and recording two other top-10s there previously.

He not only recorded several strong finishes but also claimed his maiden DP World Tour title in his rookie season with a commanding victory at the Turkish Open. That win highlighted his potential. While his driving was steady, it was his outstanding iron play that set him apart. He consistently created chances with his approach shots and closed out the victory in convincing style.

Matthew Baldwin

He had made seven straight cuts before last week’s missed cut in Austria. Even including that, his tee-to-green numbers have been consistently positive. The main issue has been his putting, while his long game looks to have improved. Conditions also suit him. A Southport native raised on coastal, links-style golf, Baldwin has traditionally played well in the wind. His DP World Tour win in 2023 came in South Africa at St Francis Links.

Matthew Jordan

He is strong off the tee and generally solid around the greens, but it is his iron play that makes him a genuine contender to win sooner rather than later. Links golf, in particular, suits him well. He finished 5th and 10th at the Dunhill Links, and also 5th and 10th in Doha, where he even held the Sunday lead. He has come close at Le Golf National too. A former winner of both the Lytham Trophy and St Andrews Links Trophy, he also has two top-10s from four Open Championship appearances, including one at Royal Liverpool, a course he knows well from his amateur days.

After six months off, having been gelded, he was not disgraced when finishing fifth of seven, beaten around four lengths, on his handicap debut at Southwell in April.
