Twenty-one of Jonathan Portman’s last forty runners have finished in the first three, with seven of those winning. Gorey Gold is just a pound above his last winning mark, and with first-time cheekpieces going on, a place looks up for grabs.

A speculative e.w. is chanced on Dylan Cunha's Cartwheel. The four-year-old showed a lot of promise when winning a 13-runner C2 restricted novice at 2, but for some reason or other has gone right off the boil ever since. She was highly pitched in a C1 and two C2s between 5f and 8f. Today she drops right down in grade to a Grade 6 off a career-low of 61. It will be interesting to see how she fares upped in distance.

James Owen's yard are bang in form at present, so an each-way chance is taken with Dream Diamond. Although he has been out of form since his stable-debut win last August, he arrives today eased 4 lb and on his preferred going.

Cloudy Rose

Daily Racing

C&D winner Cloudy Rose has dropped to 1 lb below her last winning mark. She kept on well on reappearance when short of room in the final half-furlong at Pontefract four weeks ago.
16:08 4:08 Windsor

Expert Agent

Daily Racing

A chance is taken on Expert Agent to follow up from his win at Kempton last month. He won over C&D off a 2 lb higher mark a couple of years ago.
16:00 4:00 Bath

Takincareofbizness

Daily Racing

Takincareofbizness ran an excellent, clear-of-the-remainder 2nd at Yarmouth last week and races off the same mark today. Jack Channon seems very confident he'll be winning handicaps soon.
15:15 3:15 Warwick

Irish Chorus

Daily Racing

Irish Chorus arrives with three wins and a second from five over fences, including a C&D victory in March. She should go well again on her preferred going.

Sir Benedict has been a beaten favorite in two of his last three outings, which shows connections have been confident. He has a good chance of reaching the frame on his third run since changing stables.

Cosmic Clarets caught my eye on debut when 2nd in a C4 Novice and followed that with a one-paced 2nd. He was pitched too high in his next two runs and then really disappointed in his last two runs of the season when well beaten in C4 and C5 handicaps. He was gelded in the interim and showed encouragement when 0.5L second in a C6 three weeks ago. He is sure to strip fitter from that, and a repeat should see him go close.

Call Me Tomorrow sets the bar for this with impressive TS and RPR figures. Ran a good head second over C&D eighteen days ago.

Today's points-system top rated is A P O'Brien's Precise. She won the Fillies' Mile over C&D in very impressive style last October. She has wintered well and is in great shape by all accounts.

Akkadian Thunder

Akkadian Thunder is two wins and three places from seven here at Doncaster. His seasonal reappearance, 2nd of 19 here last month, bodes well for today.

The Andrew Balding stable is firing on all cylinders at the moment, and with Bellum Justum being my points-system top-rated for this race, an each-way looks very much on the cards.

Hopewell Rock

Daily Racing

My points system goes for Bellum Justum, then Gamrai, and third comes Hopewell Rock. I'm going to opt for the latter because he ran two very close seconds in C2 and C3 handicaps last season. He arrives here gelded since his beaten-favourite 9th of 22 in the November Handicap at Doncaster.
15:15 3:15 Thirsk

Analogical

Daily Racing

Analogical has been in fine form this season with two very close seconds and an excellent 2.75L win at Newcastle. The field was well spread out there, so the 4 lb rise looks manageable.

Missed Tee had a busy month in March where I noted she was a good second on seasonal reappearance, beaten 5L after a coming together on the home turn where she lost her momentum slightly. She's had a month to recover from her last run, and maybe this two-time winner for Dan Skelton could be rejuvenated and fill the frame.

Anzadam

Daily Racing

50 EW

@+1400

Lose

-100

Today's points system by a wide margin is Lossiemouth, but because of the grey's prohibitive odds I think better value could be an each-way on Anzadam. Still to fire following his two Grade 3 wins after joining Willie Mullins. Although the trainer was quoted in February saying he was slightly disappointed in him, he hadn't given up hope yet. That was before the disaster of a run in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, and the fact that he runs here could mean he still has hope. Interesting to see that Danny Mullins takes the ride instead of P. W. Mullins or Harry Cobden.

Market House has a fine record since joining James Owen with five wins and ten places from twenty under both codes. The yard have had nine winners, seven winners and plenty of first-three finishers from their last forty runners. Should make the frame at least.

Cospicua came with a wet sail when showing blistering speed to come from way off the pace to snatch a win here last month. That's two from two C&D wins and the 3 lb rise might not stop her.

The well-bred Pure Moon didn't help his chances when hanging badly last time out, losing out by a head. The front two had the field well stretched that day, so I expect he'll know better today and open his account.

Today's points-system top-rated is Gordon Elliott's Teahupoo, who bids to win this for the third time running. He lost a shoe at Cheltenham, which may have been a mitigating factor. Blinkers go on for the first time today, and a bounce-back looks on the cards.

Purely to try for second place in the naps table I need a long shot and Invincible Isaac fits that bill. I have the horse in my MTF notes with the words "Keep an eye on," without any other description. Looking at the replays of both races, you can see the colt ran very green, totally blowing the start on debut but made up ground to pass five of the fifteen runners. On his last run he was full of zest, up with the pace but ran green again 2f out. He got his act together too late but rallied to finish 1.7L fourth. The second in that race, Final Appeal, went on to win by 3.5L next time out. Ron Hornby did the business for me yesterday when I said his strength could help Brinton win and, lo and behold, he takes the ride. I hope he can do his magic today. This extra furlong is bound to help. Sired by July Cup winner Mayson, I think we could have a surprise here.
