I've always kept an eye out for Bridge North ever since his unlucky fall at Doncaster way back in February '24 when trained by Henry Daly. He lost his confidence and went off the boil in subsequent races but now finds himself in the capable hands of James Owen, who appears to be coming into form now with six winners and nine places from his last forty runners, with his most recent ten entries showing best results. Barring jumping errors, Bridge North could be bang in there off a very handy mark of 115. Jockey Gavin Sheehan has been in great form recently with thirteen wins and seven places from his last forty rides.

Purely a speculative, gut-feeling here for Mehmar, who ran some fine races when trained by M D O'Callaghan last year, winning twice and reaching the frame in three others. He lost his form after his last win off 87 and was then moved to Jamie Osborne's yard in the UK, where in the three races for him, he only beat one horse home. New trainer Nigel Slevin doesn’t exactly set the world alight (32 wins and 99 places from 627), but he does get the odd touch at big odds. Mehmar races off 78 today with S Coen (40% place strike rate at Dundalk) claiming 7lb. Could be in with an e.w. shout on AW debut if getting a decent break.

Dan Skelton had a disastrous day yesterday at Bangor with five of his runners pulling up. That was undoubtedly due to the heavy going, and Cheltenham today will still be a test, but the going is a lot better. Fortune De Mer won over C&D three weeks ago in a Grade 2 and should go well on handicap debut.
