Won a handicap for Andrew Balding last season but has taken a bit a time to get to form since hoping Michael Appleby. He got his head in front in a blanket finish over 1m2f at Newcastle two runs back and shaped as if still in form when 5th over a mile at that same track last time out. Still looks on a workable mark and today's step up to the extended 1m1f trip should really suit him. Jason Watson is 1-1 onboard and I think he'll run well again today.

This mare had a solid 2025 with a win and a few places. She ran in this race 12 months ago and finished 7th, only beaten a little over 2L off a 5lb higher mark and that was her first start of the season (never gone well fresh) so could be marked up. She won over 6f at Catterick and went on to place over 6f at Carlisle & Wolverhampton, both off a 2lb higher mark. She's had a reappearance run this time around so she ought to be sharper today and has dropped back to her last winning mark. The ground will be fine, Jo Mason knows her well having finished in the first 3 home in 4 of her 8 rides aboard this mare.

Solid handicapper previously with Kevin Ryan and he's become well weighted again now. Admittedly he's not won since 2024 when winning a 0-85 over today's CD off a 2lb higher mark but he ran some good race in defeat last year. He was beaten just over a length when 4th of 15 over this CD in 0-85 company in September (didn't get a clear run late on) and went on to finish 6th of 25 in the Ayr Bronze Cup (2nd past the post from his group, 3L clear of the next home in that group). He has form that ties in with Fine Interview from Pontefract last season, finishing a head 2nd to that rival and is 7lb better off at the weights today. Ran ok 2 starts back on the AW for this yard but was too keen and poorly placed last time out. Plenty of positives now back on turf.

This horse is very nicely bred, bred to be smart but failed to live up to expectation last year. That being said, he still managed to win a couple of times over 1m4 at Kempton & 1m2f at Lingfield most recently. He controlled the race from the front last time out and just looked a class above his rivals. That was his first run since being gelded and that seems to have done the job getting this horse concentrated at the job at hand. Up 6lb should be manageable and he could really kick on and be contesting bigger races this season.

King Of Earth was a good 2nd on debut over a mile at Newbury, ridden patiently and finished the race off nicely. The winner hasn't run again but holds entries in both the British & Irish Derby's so is clearly well thought of and he did pull 5L clear of the 3rd who had race experience. This colt is a very nicely bred son of Kingman, his dam was a 6f winner and he's a half-brother to King Of Change who was a group 1 winner & runner up in the 2000 Guineas and a half-brother to group 2 winner Century Dream. He's bred to be very nice as a 3yr old and this looks a nice opportunity for him down at 7f. He also holds a 2000 Guineas entry.

Richard Fahey won this race last year & this horse should give a good run for our money. He's only 2-32 in his career but did finally gain his first turf win last season over a testing extended mile at Hamilton. He's been running ok on the all-weather over the winter, including a good 2nd over 7f at Southwell when staying on from off the pace under today's jockey. He's down to career low mark of just 59 today (1lb below his last winning mark), should appreciate a strong gallop in a big field and the amateur jockey knows him which is always a plus.

This filly has some very strong form in novice and maiden company last year, 2nd at Yarmouth to a subsequent group 3 winner in France who's being aimed at the French 1,000 Guineas, was beaten just a nose at Ripon by a horse who's won off 81 and been beaten just a length in listed company and this filly then won a restricted maiden at Epsom by over 2L. The runner up has since won off a mark of 88 & now rated 98. Admittedly she struggled in nursery handicaps but she's been off since October so will hopefully have strengthened up and could kick on this season, especially off a mark of just 76. Stevie Donohoe takes the ride (3-6 on 3yr olds for the yard this year) and he rode her when beaten just a nose at Ripon last season so he knows her. I think she could win this.

This mare bolted up over a mile at Bath last year for her previous stable and won at the third time of asking when joining this yard, landing a 0-60 by 2L at Chelmsford over the mile. She was a very good 2nd over that trip at Lingfield next time out despite racing wide through much of the race and hit the frame once again when last seen. She's been freshened up and drops to 7f today which I don't think will be a problem given it's a pretty testing 7f and there's a lot of pace on paper so you'll need to stay well which we know she'd do. Liam Wright takes off a handy 5lb for a stable that are lying this year (6-15).

Consistent mare who's getting on now but is still relatively lightly raced for an 8yr old having had just 28 career runs, only 17 on turf. She had an very good 2025 with 3 wins and 5 2nd's from 10 starts. The latter of those wins came over a mile at Redcar, a narrow head win but she showed a real battling attitude in the final furlong. She made a pleasing enough return from a break on the all-weather last time out which should put her spot on for this. Given how consistent she is, she should give her running again under talented apprentice Ashley Lewis.

This horse is a 4 time winner on the AW and looks well handicapped if things pan out better for him than last time out. He won over 5f at Wolverhampton off this mark back in December and ran a good 3rd over today's CD a couple of runs back when given a more forward ride than usual. Excuse his run last time out when raced wide and again, too aggressively, so he weakened out of contention. He's back down to his last winning mark, the bigger field with the likelihood of a stronger pace should suit, the visor goes back on for just the second time (was less than a length 3rd last year on only other run with it on) and Oliver Stammers takes the ride (4-12 for the trainer this year, 50% of those 12 rides finished 1st or 2nd) so I think he has a good shout at a big price.

Chance on one at a price here with this mare. She's only managed to win once in 25 runs and that came on the all-weather, 0-14 on turf, but she's hit the crossbar a few times. Her win came over the mile at Newcastle in September, scooting home to win by over 3L. Not in the same form twice since but she's been freshened up and switches back to turf. She was 2nd twice on turf last season, both over 1m2f and was 2nd over 1m4f at Thirsk the season before so she clearly can run well on the surface. Interestingly she brings in a similar sort of profile as 2024 winner who was 0-10 on turf before winning this race. The trainer's horses tend to run well here and this could be a good season for Kyle McHugh.

Had a very good 2025, winning at Chelmsford over a mile before going down just a neck in the Spring Cup at Newbury. Freshened up and won a 0-100 handing by 2L at Sandown followed by a 5th in the Victoria Cup and 3rd in the Shergar Cup Mile both at Ascot. Personally I'm putting a line through his York run as he had an awful draw and was stuck wide but he ended the season with a creditable 9th in the Cambridgeshire. Again, the draw didn't work out that day, he was actually 4th home from his group up the near side. He's still lightly raced for a 5yr old, just 12 runs to date and he shaped last season like a top handicapper in the making, that was his first full season in handicaps. I think he can do better again this season and doesn't look too high in the weights off 98, beaten just half a length off this very mark in the Shergar Cup Mile. Another plus is his record fresh, form figures reading 1113 when returning from breaks of 51+ days (won first time up last season off a 143 day break)

A pretty disappointing field for this contest. Docklands is the one to beat on form but his record away from his favourite Ascot is poor. Qirat improved through handicaps and always looked a listed/group 3 horse at least but can put in the odd shocker of a run. He brought his A-game to win the Sussex (group 1) at Goodwood last season, albeit he was given a freebie on the front end. Was far from disgraced next time out when beaten just over 2L in the City Of York (group 1) but was well below that level in his final two runs. I think conditions will suit him, he has a good record when fresh and still relatively lightly raced having had just 15 runs as a 5yr old. He could progress again into a more consistent group performer this season.

Very progressive through handicaps last season, winning over a mile at Redcar followed by back to back 2nd's in the bet365 handicap at Newmarket & the Kincsem handicap at Goodwood. I don't think he can be judged too harshly on his down the field effort in the Cambridgeshire when last seen, it can be difficult for 3yr olds against older horses and it was only his 10th career start. I think there could be more to come this year, judging on pedigree there's every reason to think he could keep improving until a 5yr old at least. He's 2-3 on the all-weather and although stamina needs proving, he is bred to get this trip.

Looked smart as a 2yr old for Ed Bethell finishing 3rd in a group 2 and started last season with some encouraging efforts including beaten just over 3L by King's Lynn in a 0-105 handicap at Haydock. For whatever reason he lost his way as the season went on but a step up to a mile at this track on his last run of the season saw him finish a very good 4th at 50/1. That was on heavy ground (been a NR on similar before) so conditions probably didn't suit yet he still ran well. Now with Mick Appleby, beens eased to a mark of just 85 (10lb+ below what he started last season off) and given he was even running in a group 2 last season shows that clearly connections thought highly of him. The stable switch could re-ignite this horse and he's on a dangerous mark. Havlin booking is interesting as he's got a 33% sr for the yard in last 5yrs (turf & aw) and that becomes just 1-1 on turf in that period.

A real likeable horse who isn't getting any younger but always runs well at this level. Won this race race 12 months ago on ground that was just starting to turn a little quick for him. He went on to place in a couple of group 3's before winning a group 3 at Chantilly by nearly 5L, followed by a listed race over this CD by nearly 3L. He's 2-2 over CD, goes very well fresh and PLJ has a 3-4 record onboard this horse. I'm hoping there's rain on Friday to keep the ground on the soft side.

Has some very nice form from the first half of last year, most noticeably his 4th at Goodwood in a conditions stakes race. The winner is a group 2 winner and was 2nd in the Irish St Leger, the 3rd was an easy winner of ther Jersey (group 3) & the 6th is due to run in the listed mile at Doncaster today. He was a good 4th on handicap debut but flopped last time out at Wolverhampton. Perhaps the tighter track didn't suit him there given his best form is at Southwell and Newmarket with long straights, Kempton should suit. I think he's capable off this mark if ready after a break.

Colt by Kodi Bear who was a top 7f - 8f horse on ground from soft through to good to firm and won as a 2yr old. In terms of progeny, he's already produced some very smart speedy 2yr olds such as Go Bears Go, Lifeplan, Canfield, Cowardofthecounty & Leovanni. This colt's dam is Jeanie B who was lightly race but was a nice 2yr old, winning twice at that age over 5f & 7f before going on to place in group company over in North America. The grand-dam was also a 2yr old winner and ended up reaching a rating as high as 93. The yard have won 2 of the last 4 runnings of this race and usually have some smart 2yr olds ready in this early part of the season. He looks a smart type on paper

Has been very progressive throughout his career so far and at the age of 5, there could still be more to come just yet. He won a couple of 2m handicaps earlier on last season before finishing 2nd in the Copper Horse at Royal Ascot. He bettered that in the second half of the year by winning a group 3 in Germany followed by the Prix du Cadran (group 1) over 2m4f in France, giving George Scott his first ever group 1. The plan from early on last season was always to come to the Middle East over the winter and has been targeted for this race. He stays all day so that's obviously a big plus, he's gone well fresh in the past and Buick takes the ride. The only slight concern would be if the ground was very fast but he should show up well here.

Looks a straight match up between the Bhupat Seemar pair Commisoner King & Mendelssohn Bay here and it's the former that gets my pick and the pick of leading jockey Tadhg O'Shea. This horse has had a good winter and having knocked on the door in group 3 & 2 company, he deservedly got his head in front in a group 2 over today's CD last time out, fitting up by 4L with several of today's rivals behind him. He has a perfect rail draw for a horse that likes to go forward and a repeat of that latest win should see him with his head in front again.

George Scott makes the journey up to Newcastle from Newmarket with just this one runner today. This filly was beaten just half a length at Doncaster on handicap debut last year before finishing a good 2nd over this CD last year in a Racing League race when well backed. She returned from 189 days off by beating just one home over 6f at Southwell but was way too keen and fresh so it's worth excusing that run. Back down to the minimum 5f today, eased 2lb (1lb lower than for that Doncaster close 2nd) and she ought to come on for that return run two weeks ago. Provided she settles better, she should have a good chance off this mark.

This horse keeps threatening to be a nice top handicapper but has a tendency to over-race which is just holding him back. He won a competitive class 3 handicap at Chepstow in the Racing League last year off this very mark but failed to back that up. He returned from an 88 day break with a solid 5th at Southwell. I liked that he was held up that day, ridden with more restraint as he usually gets sent forward and is way too free. The sectionals back up how well he did last time, clocking the fastest final speed, running the final 2f in the second quickest time (only bettered by the winner) and finished with the highest finishing percentage, suggesting he was finishing best in that field. He's back on last winning mark, should strip fitter for that last run and the yard are flying this year

Had become frustrating over 7f & a mile, hitting the crossbar a number of times but relished the drop down to 5f for the first time last time out to get off the mark at the 20th attempt. That win was a cosy near 2L win at this track and he's up 6lb for it. I think he still looks on a good mark given he's completely unexposed still at sprinting trips and if anything I think he could be better over today's 6f than 5f last time out. He ran well to finish 2nd over CD last month and has had excuses the last twice. Was 4th over 6f in a 0-75, only beaten just over a length and did well considering he was hampered at the start which left him at the rear. His 6th over that same CD last time out in a 0-80 reads well, only beaten just over 2L and they went slow before a real sprint to the finish from 2-3 furlongs out which caught him out. The form has been boosted as the only horse to run since, has come out and won. Down in class & grade will help, back up to 7f will surely suit and he's down to a mark of just 68 (3lb below his last winning mark). There are plenty of positives.

For whatever reason he went off the boil last year and that carried into the winter until a very encouraging 2nd over today's CD (his only run here) in a 0-85 handicap. Was only beaten a neck that day but failed to build on that when last of 5 at Kempton when last see, however, it was a small field, no one wanted the lead and they crawled along plus those rivals he faced were rated 91, 96, 96 &97 so on paper he was facing much tougher rivals that day. Today's a drop in class, back here where he ran so well a couple of runs back, Finley Marsh back onboard and a race that looks likely to have plenty of pace on paper, I expect him to bounce back with a good run.

A chance is taken on Beelzebub for David Loughnane who's been a rather frustrating horse as can be seen by the fact he's not won since Jan 2024 and has switched trainers a number of times but keeps threatening to get his head back in front. He's a 3 time AW winner and arguably his best 2 runs since last winning both came over today's CD when 2nd & 3rd. I thought there were positives to take from his 4th at Kempton when last seen, he came from well off the pace whereas the first 3 home raced 1-2-3. He's down to a career low mark of 58, 15lb below his last winning mark so he's handicapped to run well and has form here. Ross's Ryan is a positive jockey booking.

This horse is yet to win since winning his first 3 career starts when trained by Roger Varian, including over a mile here off a mark of 89. He's tumbled down the weights since and has shown very little since joining this yard in November. However, the drop to 7f over today's CD last time out saw him return to some form, finishing 3rd, only beaten a length by a horse who's 2-2 since that win. Connections have gone to the trouble of getting top course jockey Jason Hart to ride so I think a big run is expected off an unchanged mark of 69.

This horse showed some potential over hurdles in 2024 but had a long spell on the sidelines, missing 622 days but has returned with a perfect 2-2 record now switching to fences. He won comfortably at Ayr on Chase debut, beating an ex Willie Mullins horse who had grade 1 experience and the 3rd was a subsequent winner off 125. He produced a 5lb better performance when last seen over an extended 2m5f at Kelso on testing ground. The handicapper has put him up 5lb but there's surely lots more to come especially now upped to 3m which his pedigree suggests he ought to relish. The Nicky Richards yard are 3-4 at this track in chases in the last 5 years and 7 of their last 15 runners have won so the team are flying at present.

Was 2-4 over hurdles which included a listed win at Huntingdon and this season he's looked a potentially smart chaser. Having run creditably in three consecutive races at Cheltenham, he recorded an impressive RPR of 145 in victory over today's CD. He's only gone up 5lb for that win and that may well be lenient. He's proven over CD, ground will suit, very much unexposed and likely to have plenty more to come over fences.

Doesn't look the strongest of fields this year for the Midlands National but I thought Neo King had a massive chance. This horse finished very well for 2nd over 3m6f on heavy ground at Exeter last year and had been consistent this season. He's been beaten just a neck in the Southern National, won over 3m4f at Windsor and was going away at the finish and was a very good 3rd in the Grand National Trial at Haydock when last seen, only beaten a little over 2L and was finishing very strongly. He's upped another 1lb to a mark of just 120 but he's only an 8yr old who's had just 11 career starts and is one who just keeps knocking on the door so I think he's certainly better than his mark. On paper his only try over further than 3m6f saw him put in his worst run this season, however his jumping let him down that day in the Scottish National and yet wasn't exactly beaten out of sight. I think he looks tailor made for these marathon races and is on a potentially good mark with Ben Jones now taking over in the saddle.

Nicky Henderson's horse have been running well of late and the yard won this race 12 months ago with an unexposed mare, similar to La Pinsonniere today. She was consistent last season, winning at Huntingdon, followed by three consecutive 2nds. One of those was her only run in a handicap when beaten just half a length and was arguably unlucky not to win having been very badly hampered by a faller that day. Admittedly she was well beaten on only run this season but it was a small field, heavy ground and first run for 296 days so I expect her to strip fitter for the run.

The stable's form is a bit of a concern but this horse has been progressive and largely consistent. He won a novice at Newbury last season and started this season in top form by winning a 0-145 handicap at Carlisle and then finished 2nd in a grade 3 stayers premier handicap hurdle at Haydock over the extended 3m. He wasn't on a going day at Windsor, seemingly never travelling but that track really isn't for every horse and he bounced back with a good 3rd to Henri The Second at Sandown and that's a very solid piece of form. Dropped to a mark of 127 here which looks a decent mark judged on his Haydock run back in November, soft ground is fine, he stays and looks likely to have more in the locker for a yard that don't send many here but when they do, they tend to run very well.

Wellington Arch has plenty of weight to carry therefore it may be worth siding with Warriors Destiny who made a winning start to life in handicaps over today's CD when last seen. He holds some solid form prior to that; his 4th at Wetherby in a novice reads pretty well with most those around him rated in the 120's including the winner who was 2nd in a big field grade 3 hurdle at Sandown off 128 recently. He was a good 3rd to Moneygarrow, who ran in the Albert Bartlett (grade 1) yesterday, over 2m5f at Warwick. He won off 114 on handicap debut and is up 7lb but won by nearly 3L that day and looked to have a bit left up his sleeve. He's very much exposed, soft ground conditions won't be a problem and we know he handles the CD. The yard boast a 28% sr in handicap hurdles at this track this season.
