Australia may be the outsiders to win this group, but they could cause Türkiye plenty of problems. Türkiye came through the play-offs and struggled to beat Romania and Kosovo. Both those wins were by a single goal scored in the second half. Both those teams are ranked lower than Australia. Australia are ranked five places lower than Türkiye, but if they can get the lead, they may go on to get the win.

First Legion is trained by Richard Hannon. He has raced three times at York over six and seven furlongs. His course-and-distance win came just over a year ago. Since then, his two subsequent runs at York saw him finish seventh and fifth. His last outing was at Leicester, where he finished fourth after running out of steam in the final furlong. He is down a pound from that race, and Shane Foley returns in the saddle. In the last seven years, two horses running off a mark of eighty-eight have won this. Hopefully First Legion could be the third or, at the very least, get placed.

Provided Beorma is fully recovered from his easy success at Southwell over hurdles a couple of days ago, he can add another chase victory to his CV and make it five consecutive wins. His last run over the larger obstacles was at Warwick at the beginning of the month, and he was not over-extended, winning by a very easy eight lengths. His mark is ten pounds higher than in that race, but the ease of his two most recent victories suggests a clear round of jumping should be the foundation for another win.

Racing off the same mark in a lower-grade race than last time could help Arantes Nascimento go one better if he gets a better start.

Since the start of 2024, Northern Ireland have only managed to win two away games: one was against Scotland and the other against Luxembourg. France will be looking to put that defeat behind them and get back to winning ways. The Green Mile has run twice this season. He was basically a no-show in his first race. Then connections fitted a hood and saw a good amount of improvement. With the hood fitted he finished first in a race at Chepstow over the same distance as he faces today. It is fair to say that in that race he ran the second half much better than the first and finished well to win by a neck. He is up four pounds from that race, and David Probert is once again in the saddle.

He is up six pounds for his latest success. Today he is back down in trip to two miles. He was successful at this trip last year at Catterick. Brian Hughes is in the saddle. Despite a career-high mark, hopefully Cosmic Soul will put in another sound effort.

Although the Aidan O'Brien horses failed to fire in the Oaks, the trainer looks set to bounce back with another classic winner courtesy of Benvenuto Cellini. Last season he won twice and finished in the frame in his other two races. He reappeared this season at Chester and was a very impressive winner of the Chester Vase by over four lengths. That race was over the same distance as today, so he does not have any stamina issues to prove. With Ryan Moore once again in the saddle, O'Brien looks to make it four Derby winners in a row, and Ryan Moore to have ridden the winner in three of the last four Derbys.

The race he won on turf was on good to soft ground. Harry Davies is back in the saddle today, and the last time he was on board this combination won. That race was over seven furlongs and, although she did not get the clearest of runs, she still managed to finish third, two lengths clear of the rest of the field. Ross Coakley gets his first ride on Hilltop today. His last four rides have seen him finish first, fourth, fifth and ninth. With Hilltop racing off the same mark as at Lingfield and likely to get a clearer run, she should go well.
