I'm not convinced odds-on favourite Gstaad gets a true mile, so I'm looking elsewhere for value. That value comes from a stable very close to my home: the Godolphin-trained Distant Storm, who runs in first-time cheekpieces.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Powerful Glory can do this season. It was some performance at Ascot when he was priced at 200/1 when winning the British Champion Sprint at Ascot last October. The result that day did not look like a fluke.

Newmarket-based top trainer William Haggas this season has some nice-looking 3yos who could be Group winners. One of them, Morshdi, runs today and there has been support for him. Morshdi looked to have improved by leaps and bounds on his season return, winning at Newmarket 22 days ago.

The almost £300k first prize for winning the 2000 Guineas stayed in Newmarket with the combination of trainer George Boughey and the very impressive young jockey Billy Loughnane. Things look like returning to normal today, as you will have to be a very good filly to defeat the combination of Aidan O'Brien and top-class jockey Ryan Moore, who come to town with Precise, who has won her last four races, including the 2yo Bet365 Fillies' Mile here over C&D last October.
