I massively respect Marine Nationale. I backed him to win his Supreme and his Champion Chase. However, Il Etait Temps is simply unbelievable. His win at Sandown on decent ground, followed by a Tingle Creek in soft and his Champion Chase victory, leave him king of the division. He will wait and wait, breeze into contention, and away. Marine has had small issues, and I would have thought the Celebration Chase would have been the better option.

This lad blew me away at Kempton on Boxing Day. Free-flowing, attacking style. Like the Manchester United of old! I did worry about him being able to do the same at Cheltenham, but he did. He's hard to knock when in the right mood. I don't see much else in the field who can go with him for long.

A McManus horse who has had a highly consistent and progressive campaign. A non-runner last week in the Scottish National due to ground. I fancied him, but the ground was a concern, so coming here instead is 100% the right decision. He has some strong handicap form, running behind The Jukebox Kid before winning versus a big pot himself. He, of course, has form with Kap Vert in behind, who won last week's Scottish National. I do think he still has plenty of scope for improvement, especially with the extra furlongs here. Big chance.

The talk is all about Jonbon and Thistleask, who clashed in the Clarence House in January. Three lengths between them. Soft ground on Ascot is different from what we get today. I always think Solness suits front-runners who can attack and jump with rhythm. Solness himself is a real Grade One horse on his day. Same applies to Jonbon, of course, but two miles is a major negative for me. And is Thistleask a genuine Grade One performer? The percentage call is Solness from the front.

Blow Your Wad can finish the season on a high. He's had a massively productive campaign. Fourth in the Ultima last time out ??" a track I didn't think would suit. Second in the Greatwood Chase. Some fine races in Ascot handicaps. The form is rock solid, with winners from every angle. He's a lot more reliable than the opposition today. If everything goes to plan and he gets a smooth run, he wins.
