This much-improved type bumped into a very much-improved type at Exeter (2m 1f 109yds) on good ground in a competitive Grade 2 handicap chase last month, finishing a creditable 7L second of five to Thistle Ask, with the rest of the field well strung out. He is just as effective in today's conditions, so off the same mark he should hopefully run well.

Current market leader Excello ran a sound race back from a break over today's course (2m 5f 19yds) on good to soft ground in a competitive Class 2 Handicap Chase last month, finishing a good 3rd of 17 to Colonel Harry. That was a decent effort but he may be vulnerable on today's ground, so I'd prefer taking him on. I much prefer siding with this one, who could come on a lot after finishing a respectable 5th of 9 to Sound And Fury at Carlisle (3m 2f 19yds) on good to soft ground in a Class 3 Handicap Chase last month. He has also run some solid races off much higher marks on today's ground in the past, most notably when finishing a cracking 8th of 32 to I Am Maximus over today's course (4m 2f 74yds) on soft ground in the Class 1 Grand National Handicap Chase in April 2024. He is now on a mark 12 lb lower, with talented rider Tristan Durrell taking off a further 3 lb.

Stable won this last year with a similar type and this one can hopefully follow up. His stable is in tremendous form of late, having shown vast improvement since moving to this yard. He went off at short odds, 6/4 fav, at Aintree (3m 210yds) on Good to Soft ground in a Class 3 Novices' Handicap Chase last month, getting the better of a very well-handicapped Theatre Man by 1/2 a length, with another of today's rivals, Champagne Twist, back in third. Although that one is a lot better off today, I still feel my selection should come out on top.

Seemed to have learned a lot from his first experience over fences back in October when finishing down the field behind Zurich.
