This looks to be a bit of a mismatch. Cerundolo is no minnow, but is clearly at his best on clay. Bu is a powerful striker of the ball and is much more suited to the fast courts of Shanghai. It'll be difficult for Cerundolo to take a set, so I think over evens on Bu to win in straight sets is worth a go.

This has good chances of coming in. Shang is in decent form and is the most likely winner. Kovacevic is in a bit of a slump but has reached 2 ATP finals this year, and has beaten Rublev already this season. I think this will be closer than expected and so could well be a long match.

Really feel that Gjorcheska is overpriced here. Costoulas has retired in the middle of a match during her last two events - in the final at Heraklion ITF and also in quarters at Le Neubourg. There are significant concerns about her potential injury status and although she looked OK in her opening-round win, there is enough doubt not to have her as the favourite.
Gjorcheska meanwhile is in great form, and beat the former world number one Karolina Pliskova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, in her first round match here. She is playing very well at the moment, and can take advantage of a potentially vulnerable opponent.

Rajaonah has had a great season, winning her maiden 250 in Sao Paulo earlier this year. She has a 16-8 record on hard courts this season. Hesse is in the twilight of her career and has been in dreadful form. Her record in 125 events is 1-4, and she has lost 7 of her last 10 matches overall. The players met recently, and Rajaonah won convincingly 6-2, 6-2. I see no reason why this shouldn't be repeated, and evens about a straight-sets win looks more than fair.

Looks a bit overpriced to me. Sakamoto has gone from 939 to 190 in the world in just 2 years, and has shown no sign of slowing down. He has done very well in both Challenger and ITF events. Obviously this is somewhat of a step up, but Arnaldi has been in pretty dreadful form, losing 7 of his last 10 matches on hard courts including to Van de Zandschulp, Cerundolo and Cazaux.
Arnaldi's return game win percentage stands at a paltry 18.4%, and so he will find it difficult to pressure Sakamoto's serve. Definitely think there's some value on the underdog.

Shinikova can absolutely make a game of this. Both players' career win rate stands at 67% on hard courts, and this season Shinikova has a 34-11 record on the surface. Shinikova has also had time to get used to the conditions in Turkey, and her route through qualification included a straight sets win over Harriet Dart. Her record is 7-3 in her last 10 matches.
Timofeeva's record in her last 10 is 6-4, and her losses include matches against Veronika Erjavec and Ann Li - players she would usually be expected to beat. I still expect Timofeeva to win the match, but I think Shinikova won't be blown away.

Bartunkova has had a superb breakout season, and has done very well in higher-rated events, such as reaching the semis in the 250 at Guadalajara. She is the worthy favourite. Aksu, however, has home conditions, and won in straight sets against Jakupovic. Bartunkova, meanwhile, had to come from a set down against Oz - this would indicate that she is not entirely comfortable with the conditions. Aksu has won a substantial number of ITF titles on hard in Turkey, and beat former top-20 player Petra Martic earlier this year. She's unlikely to be blown away and so this could be closer than many expect.

Previous winner over C&D in August. Definitely not at best when 7th last time out at Ayr in a Class 5, and was running well prior to that run so can be forgiven. Back down in grade to a Class 6, and has every chance to repeat success from the summer.

Likely to be a long match. Their only previous match went to 26 games, and Zhang's powerful serve leads to a high percentage of service holds, preventing easy sets. Baez's defensive tenacity forces long rallies and makes him difficult to break, extending games even when he is outmatched. This combination is a natural formula for long sets.
