Possibly a bit slow for this and almost certain to need a year or two to show its true potential. I dislike bumpers. The Lightmaker is an obvious danger but a fair price for a horse who may be OK depending on the way the race is run. A dawdle: no chance. A properly run contest: good chance.

Nice to see Hollie D getting more rides with a chance, as Archie Watson's stable has a dire time. Stuart Williams runs two a bit like trying to guess which way a cobra will strike. Finished off well last time. Track should suit the horse and style of rider. Below its last winning mark.

Shame there are not three places, but a big price all things considered. Fairly well in, still capable of improvement. Doubtful it can lead all the way as it did when it won. May need to be ridden with a modicum of restraint. Bit Archie and Hollie D know their business far better than I. Generally a day to keep your folding in your pocket.

I do not really fancy it that much. Drawn out wide in this race is not great for me, but the form achieved in a Class 5 when 5th at Southwell after a break stands up well. That is the principal reason for the selection.

I really shouldn't. Pat Phelan's crew must feel they have gone to the continent. Normally they do not travel that far from London. Over the years they have had a few runners here, boasting a 4 per cent strike rate. Do not break out the bunting. A dual-purpose horse, it gave a little indication of form last time but demonstrated a keenness that was unsettling. I am tempted by the price. Only two places, more likely to be 3rd or 4th, but possible if the race falls right.

The main thing about the selection is it is in form and has bottom weight. It can utilize that weight difference to its advantage. Owned by Mr Lucky Harry Rednapp and sent up from Brighton by the Moores, it has an excellent chance, provided the jumping is up to par.

I was going to wrap it up for the month and liked Lucky Manifest for this, but the selection, in my view, is overpriced. There is a chance Quaviste, with the weight, is a good thing. The selection is a seasoned operator who holds its form well and is reasonably weighted. At the odds, a small each-way stake is a must.

I would normally leave the charges horses alone, but the selection that day ran 2nd in an ordinary Class 2 race at Musselburgh, beaten not all that far (2¼ lengths). The race was worth £16,000. This is its first outing on the A/W, but the family, as a rule, take to it OK. A lot of horses with potential in this; is today the day? Ask Gaye; I don't know.

I do not know how long it takes a horse to adjust after having been racing in the United States, but it put up a fair show last time. Trainer Hayley Burton has been flitting around on the periphery of my vision, and she is obviously keen to be established. I really think the selection should have won last time, but it has a disconcerting habit of jumping right, which, at a tight left-handed track, is not great. It also seems a little one-paced. Even if it wins, the Nick Scholfield horse is a little short in the market, though it has a great chance. The ground has to be holding to heavy, despite the going description, because it has been arky weather for over a month down south.
