Olly and Sean eschew the delights of Ascot and Haydock for Taunton. This horse looks good in what appears to be a weak race, although one often comes from the bottom end of the handicap to upset these good things. It's short considering it is beatable, but there is a distinct lack of evidence as regards dangers.

Never keen on backing against a recent Ruth Carr winner or a horse carrying a penalty in these all-weather events. Imola is usually well supported and won well last time. Joey Ramsden is riding and it looked as if it could win again. Rain and weight are great levellers, however, especially lower down the order.

I have never been able to equate Irish A/W form to English. Irish compatriot Indigo Dream may have just as good a chance as the selection. But Nikki S has been running consistently well at Dundalk, has Hollie D up, and with four places on offer would appear a fair investment at the odds. Mereside Diva, if she returned to form, would be a big danger to all.

A long journey for the Russell/Scudamore-trained horse after their recent acquisition. There could be a number of reasons for it. The race looks winnable. Prior to the event it showed improved form on a firm track at Kelso recently. At 4/1 it is a fair price in a five-horse race.

I hesitate napping a horse trained by Stuart Williams because the bearing patterns a few minutes prior to race time are usually an indication of the horse's race progress. Nevertheless, given its weight, the fact that Jack Dace retains the ride with his 5-pound claim, and Stuart has a fine record here, I still favor the selection. It also had a fine run at Southwell last time out.

It has yet to find the winners' enclosure, and this appears to be a chasing debut??"bred to like it. Hughes is a fine exponent of the art of jockeyship in these circumstances. I hate backing Johnstons' horses because I never get it right (not just Johnstons). But there is a strong case for believing it is on a very favourable mark here, and if that is the case 9/1 is massive. Owned by the Foyle major partnership. Do not know where the Major is going, but it has not been to the winners' enclosure for a year and a half. Ran a decent race in December at Southwell, beaten by Zulu Warrior. Supported quite well by followers of the Major. No doubt likes the track and has a 30 percent chance of involvement.

Stuart Williams is 3-handed in this, and so it is anybody's guess which of the three is fancied most, if at all. The a/election is 10 now, so drawing his pension but holding his form to date. Harry Vigors, who I presume is part of the racing family, has a great record for a seven-pound claimer. The wide draw is a bit off-putting for me, but overall a decent profile.

Anyone who is going to take 1/7 needs to be put in a locked room with no phone until the race is over. Let the race go. The first two in the betting will probably finish in that order. It is a poor race, but I am prepared to lose a few quid on the selection. I will be happy if it finishes in the first six. Showed a glimmer over hurdles the first time over hurdles before weakening and pulling up.

To my surprise, I note the selection has won 6 out of 26 on the all-weather first race since a wind op. The major stumbling block to them all is Baldomero, a Mick Appleby special on a three-timer.
