If it stays i think, Afadil may well win ,the selection. Although 6 pounds up in the weights and up in class, the horse at 6 should be improving for jumping purposes. At present Afadil is the better horse but has to prove its merit over the trip. Royal Way beat Sunshine Diamond at Ludlow, who, though no world-beater, is a solid barometer and it highlights future possibilities.

Saffie O is a wonderfully stylish jockey, and horses often run for her. Epicetus is a mercurial character and has the ability to win over 7 furlongs, not normally its distance. On the three or so occasions Dad Jamie has put Saffie up, it has finished nearer last than first. Hopefully today will be different.

I like the form of this horse, who ran behind one of Balding's, who ran a fair second to a horse of Karl Burke's, which might be halfway decent. Comprador was beaten at 2/5 last time, which was not thrilling, and Westpoint, a pricey cove, first racecourse appearance could be anything. Pointless nap, really, is it? Going to be wound up after nearly 200 days off the track. Waterford Castle and Born a Star, both getting weight from the selection, look good. But Born a Star needs to be ready and improved. Although Waterford Castle ran a decent 2nd to one of Karl Burke's, apart from the winner (who won again), the few other runners in that race have not advertised the form. Queen Maeve, owned by John Magnier, might be a certainty, but I have never liked backing 4-year-olds against older horses. The fact that the selection has been campaigned over longer distances suggests it lacks speed. Dropped back a mile, it wears a tongue tie, and Jack Tudor takes over from the apprentice. Now this is a dodgy one. Venetia W, considering heavy ground are her horses' forte by and large, has had an indifferent season. But she did OK last year. So many of your horses are handicapped into extinction next year. Johnny Boy is owned by the Hereford Racegoers Club, and the horse jumped poorly on its chase debut at Hereford on the 11th of February. Yet to visit the winners' enclosure in eight runs. Now it is 8/1. Have Venetia and staff been able to educate it? You, me, and the monkeys at the zoo know: if a horse does not take to chasing, that is it. Been backed but sure does not merit a 15/8 price on form. Ben Jones takes the ride for Rebecca Curtis. For me, the weight difference is the key factor.
