Probably a little short for it. A really wonderful race if the race is run at a proper pace. Has a decent chance. I think Ombudsman is overrated at 130. No doubt I am wrong. I hesitate to differentiate between any of the others. Any one could prove the victor. One of those pay your money, take your choice.

Emma R returned to something like full fitness momentarily. She is a superb athlete, very quick about the court with a smashing degree of finesse. She is still learning, but I would expect her to be flattened by Aryna S in her present vein of form. I anticipate the score to be 6-4, 6-1 in her favor. Apart from a few of the greats, women's tennis is a volatile forum where no game can be taken for granted. However, I do think Aryna, if she avoids injury and continues to improve, can join that pantheon.

Probably a stupid bet for a very modest return at best. Godolphin has the unraced 'Look to the Stars' who could just blow them away, but it has no fancy entries at present and may just be coming along slowly. Several other decent possibles, but Karl Burke's 'Boiling Over' has two fair racecourse appearances to its name, drops down a furlong, and has a fair draw. It is too short but has a favorite's chance.

I think it's significant that Gemma Tutty has booked Tom M. It is a rare booking for a top rider. Typical race at Thirsk. I do not know if it is a spare as I did not look at the early declarations. I am going through one of those periods where if you fancy 6 horses, you back 3 and the other 3 win. Que sera. Bin Suroor has a wonderful record at these (sorry) lesser tracks. Out of 70 odd runners, he is running at 28 percent, which is excellent. The horse appears to be improving. Ok draw, obviously has a decent Haggas odds-on shot to contend with, but should contend.

This should be a bet to nothing at the odds. However, there is an element of risk. Aryna is at the height of her powers and has developed into an excellent player who can beat anyone. I am sure she would disagree, but sometimes she can almost be too relaxed, which can be difficult to redress mid-match. Bouzkova is 8 to 1, which is a ludicrous price for a match. I am a huge Sabalenka fan, but irrespective of the result, I think the disparity is too great.

If you don't sweat at Brighton this afternoon, you are probably dead. Saffie Osborne rides the track well, and the team's small string is starting to come together. The horse is impervious to ground and conditions, and this Class 6 three-thousand-pound race would not appear likely to trouble the annals of history. But it is a tight contest with moderate horses, which is a factor in picking. The selection ran a close race when only beaten a length and a bit on a previous appearance here when ridden by Saffie. Yet to win in 27 appearances, so the race has to be poor for victory to ensue.

There is little to contradict the feeling that, given a strong pace, which I am sure Auden will ensure, Lambourn will not add this race to his Epsom Derby win. Lazy Griff is once again overpriced, and the selection ran better than his third place suggests in the Derby and could, on this vastly different track, upset calculations. Green Impact, although stamina will be stretched, is also a horse that could surprise.

The look of this race has changed so much over the course of the years, not least the compacted handicap. Tony Martin, like a couple of Irish trainers, reputation precedes him in events of this nature. Like many other contestants, he looks primed for this. Jim Crowley booked. It's bonkers that the draw plays a part in a 2-mile event, but it does, and it is nicely housed in 15. Only raced on turf to my knowledge. Needed its first run and looks to be up for a decent run. Could well be involved.

OK, Nostradamus can get back in his coffin. Naps an odds-on shot which could easily be beaten. Has some decent form in the locker which reads well in the long term. Jack Channon's runners are going well recently, with a win-to-run ratio in the mid-40s. Recently, Callum Rodriguez takes over in the saddle. Ran well last time, possibly ridden with a little too much gusto, or that is how it appeared to the ignorant onlooker (me). This is a tough race, and Mostawaa at a decent price calls to me. But dropping down in trip and drawn 15, I am going to stick with it as 5 places is fair, and 11/2 is a decent price even though it is highly competitive.

Dodgy backing horses when the trainer is bang out of form, and Michael Bell is. But Buick hangs around for the last race. That is a pointer in itself. Is Marquand at this dire Brighton meeting solely for a Haggas ride in a 7 grand race? Common sense tells you it should win. Class-wise, it has the edge, you would think. The fact that this horse is so high in the betting forecast shows what an awful race quality-wise it really is. Think all-weather transferred to turf in the two races it has had for the stable since transfer from Michael Dods. It has shown a modicum of form and it is well treated. Does it really go the distance? I am not sure. Its best may be a furlong less, but if all goes to plan, it could just about win for a stable whose horses, in the main, are running well at present. Evard Greig and Firest Haze are interesting alternatives for those that do not agree with my summation.

A chance is taken that the selection can reverse form with Zarakerjack on the revised terms, raised 4 lbs in relation to Z's 8, and showing a new level of form following an abortive visit to Dubai. It has a shout, and 9/2 is a belting price. Tom Marquand and Oisin Murphy lock horns in this, not to mention Jack Mitchell and excellent 7-pound claimer Jack Callan. So jockeyship is the key in this 4-runner event, and in Tom and Oisin, you have two world-class jocks. Very interesting event.
