I know it's just a tad overpriced for me. The distance Bow Echo and Gstaad put between them and the field suggests very high-class form, and one of them is likely to win. But Charlie A knows his horses, and the horse has looked good to date.

On paper it looks very much like a favourites day. Especially as the going is pretty perfect. It may be that More Thunder is the best 7/2 shot you will ever see. But if there is a chink in the armour of the two main contenders, I think the selection can take advantage. Won takingly last time and is improving.

Terrible race and I need a good talking to for backing in it. The selection is the equivalent of a safety shot. Should be placed. Runs well in the grade, holding its form. Has the benefit of Sylvestre in the saddle. Decent chance in a poor race.

Beagle Bay won well last time but is rewarded with a 9 lb rise and is upped in grade. Has to prove it. Tom Marquand riding at Sandown. Clearly Haggas expects High Degree to run very well, but I am rowing in with Roger Varian's Raammee, who had a fair return to the track and could improve a lot. Great race.

In view of the weather, it is probably best to keep your folding in your sky rocket. I do not normally back in apprentice races, but Harrys Halo ran a decent third at the end of March and should relish the anticipated ground. It has quite a bit of weight to carry, but Kevin Frost places his string well, and the horse should be involved at the business end.

David Evans has a poor strike rate at Goodwood. Loads of places but not many winners. He uses Saffie fairly often as the pilot. The horse is running well, goes at the track and ground, and opposition of quality is sparse.

For me, the main issue is the surface. Epsom was brutal yesterday. Relatively speaking, Goodwood is not that far away. Up in class but down in distance, lead most of the way at Goodwood in a handicap. So it is reasonable to suppose the same tactics may be employed.

For me, the selection and item represent the best chance of repelling Benvenuto and co. It may not have the requisite burst of speed but is beautifully bred and has raced with extreme promise to date. It appears to be improving, with decent form albeit at a lower level. It is a sporting nap, if such a thing exists.
