Has it been raining? There are several horses in this that could easily win. It is a race really to leave alone unless you have a firm fancy. The selection ran a fair second here over a mile when relatively unfancied a couple of weeks ago. Fairly weighted, it has a reasonable chance of being involved, although market moves for its opponents should be watched.

Definitely appeared unlucky last time. Repeatedly unable to get a passage through and eventually finished third. Whether these Class 6 horses can repeat the process is a big if, but the talent has always been there if not the application.

Ran second behind a Grace Harris horse that bombed at odds-on straight after Starfighter was well in the rear in that race. This is very much a race where you have to guess which horse is going to run its race. I am hoping Dancing Bay will repeat its previous run, which should put him in the top 2. Hope, sweet hope.

David Pipe has been going all over the shop of late with runners and puts a capable 7 lb apprentice up on the selection, who has an obvious chance despite top weight. The poorish form of the Nicholls stable precludes me from picking Mon Champion, who has a great chance if he can get it together. Paul N does not appear to have the ammo he once had just at present.

Former Derby runner-up needs to settle better and become accustomed to the jumping game. Despite having won over hurdles, is way too keen, which will not work on heavy ground at Plumpton. Jockey very decent; 3-pound claimer has to be backed, although reservations remain.

In these qualifier races in Ireland you often need a crystal ball because they often have an eye on the main prize. Mon Sherife's mark is not particularly favourable, but it should love the ground. It is, for me, at the right end of the handicap. Won an ordinary race OK last time, and the distance is within its proven compass.

Clearly Quinault is the best horse in the race and Germanic is home, so to speak. Can the selection with Vigors claiming 7 pounds and 2 stone wrest the prize? Stuart Williams trusts the strength and rousting qualities of Jason Hart, presumably to bomb out the stalls and go hell for leather takeover after 3 to 4 furlongs. Entirely possible, but I have always been a 'weight tells' merchant, even in the shorter races.

The horse has lost its way a bit since being transferred to Daniel Howard's yard but is well up to this if a reason has been found for some dire performances. A little bit of Stevie Smith's "I'm drowning, not waving" about it, but Wayne Lordan takes a very rare mount for the trainer. 'Hopeful' is probably an overestimation.

I actually think this is a wonderful bet. Ruth C has a youngish horse. Winning puts it out in 7 days to run again; that seldom happens. She is a wonderful trainer of these types. If I had a horse like that, I would pick her to train it. The horse has no penalty. Distance is fine. Weight OK. The race before, where it finished 6th, is working out well; it met interference there. J P Sullivan rides. I would go in strong, but my form is poor at present. It is syndicate owned. The only downside is she does not often have two on the bounce; today suggests no problem.

For me this ain't no 16/1 shot. Aisling Oscar could be something, or just a brilliant piece of race placing by Keatley and training. Goldmoyne ran poorly last time; has it had its wins or was it a one-off? This is a pretty fair race, but reticence made me pass up a 25/1 winner yesterday. So I will lay out a tentative wedge on the selection, who ran a fair 3rd at Southwell drawn wide. Mulrennan riding??"definitely a 10/1 shot.

Not been out for over 300 days. Certain to improve with the exercise. Vanthe Man has been backed, and you are better off concentrating on the first two in the betting. But in a way I would rather lose, because when you back the favs all the time you just recycle money. You never really win unless you back six on the trot. Anyway, when last on track it ran well, winning its last two. This is its class. Probably finish 5th or 6th. Betting suggests it is not ready.

I do not really understand why this is so short odds-wise. Quinn has two entered. The selection ran like a sack of spuds last time, though the draw did not help. Jason Hart is on the other one. Fentoman is taking off 5 pounds on this first time in a handicap, so 8 stone 4 pounds to shoulder with the allowance. If you were going for it, now would be the time.

Hollie D is getting a few rides for Loughane recently. This is the 4th race for the stable since transferring from Tim Easterby. It had raced almost exclusively at six furlongs prior to its last race at 7f. Same distance today. The surface may be a bit dead for it, but the new trainer clearly thinks it will stay.

Johnston runs two in this one, ridden by Billy Whizz. Oisin is the lesser-backed of the two who I know is always trying. I go for Von Dutch. However, De Foy is in form, up in trip for a handicap debut, and down in class. This is a fascinating race. Any one of the five runners has a chance and it will be a tactical affair. Johnston's pair in the last race were not for me, but I am wrong often at the moment.

Gilet is the best horse in the race, but Mick Appleby has High On Hope in division one of this event. It was raised a pound for its win a couple of weeks ago when it showed real determination. The only downside for me is Mick does not have that many who win two on the trot. Pure coincidence, I realise.

In some ways I love the mediocrity of the all??'weather. Backing a horse with enthusiasm that has not won in 20 tries. Not best rate, just generally been given a rest and would not strike one as the winner straight off the bat. But I get a feeling it's fancied today and is shorter than it should be. Has competed favourably in some decent races and has a chance. Should be about 6/1 for me. Small loss perhaps, maybe a mug bet.

Sean Levy booked for this David Evans horse. He has an OK record riding for Evans, whereas Rossa Ryan on Prince Nadir often rides for Evans when they are up for it. Make of it what you will. I'm sticking to the selection, who was a lot of use last time but showed a degree of enthusiasm. Wears a first-time visor, which gives it a shout. I will have a small wager on both.

A bet based on price: the Tregoning horse may well win, but even so, less is a trifle skinny. Archie Watson's horses have not been in great form for quite a while. Evenepoel won despite, rather than because of, a well-made horse. He should get further as time progresses. The dead all-weather ground should suit, providing it can get into a gallop. Must be involved.
