A blind dormouse could do a better job of tipping than I at present. Nevertheless, I offer this selection for your perusal. Since transfer to Dylan Cunha from John Ferguson, the horse has been favourite on the three times it has run. One imagines it has shown ability. It has an extra furlong to negotiate today, which should be in its favour. The long Kempton straight should suit it. To date it has performed well, but not that well. Sean Levy rides. He has a very good pilot record at the track, about 8 percent.

Rising, 9 years of age, and has run around 20 times this year. To me, he has looked jaded of late, but at his best is far better than these. He is more of a summer horse and may trail in 6th or 7th, but I will give him a chance in this Class 4 to redeem himself. Okay on the all-weather but not a prolific winner on it. Carries 9 stone 7 pounds, which is about right. Sentiment: ruling the head slightly.

A little bit iffy in this, but it has some decent form, notably when third to Zavanteri first time out. The form for the race is working out really well. However, there are a few in this who can improve significantly. I think Bambi is a huge price for the frame. All in all, providing it shows a degree of form, the selection is a value bet.

Digital, if on song, is a worry. But I fancy the selection after a break to be fit and on it prior to the Christmas period. It is no world-beater, but Billy Garritty had a decent record at Newcastle and gels with the horse drawn on the outside, never having been to Newcastle A/W. I do not know how the wind will affect the running of the race. That, and the fact I could not find the jam in a jam doughnut at the moment, tempers my enthusiasm.

The going will be dire at Fontwell and you will have to have a horse who loves the mud on your side. This race is 2 miles 5 furlongs, so there is no escape. This may be a couple of hundred yards too far for it. It is also prone to making mistakes, but Rex Dingle rides these types well. All in all, a favourite's chance.

The meeting starts at 11:07. How many people are there at that time on a Monday morning in December? The selection in a slightly later race is participating in its first race back since wind surgery. It is probably slightly better class than this mob at its best and may well need the race. A small stakes each-way bet may get a return, but no surprise if it goes backwards in the last furlong.

You could not get a more confident rider than Harry Cobden on the favourite, but the horse is a banker at that price in this small but quality field. I would sooner have a 'toe in the water' bet on the selection, who won very nicely last time. Form is not great, but the horse is clearly progressive, and 9/1 is massive.

I have no real idea why I am backing this. It is at least 3 points too short, and the subsequent form of the horses it beat before rest reads like Billy Bunter's report card. Trusting its fitness, distance, and ground should be OK. It may be there two out, however, and fade if it is a big drifter. I will not punt.
